Socialism, College Style(Part II)
Townhall.com ^ | 5-11-09 | Ashley Herzog

It seems a lot of college professors didn’t like my column last week about academic socialism. Though conspicuously short on details, a University of Oregon professor declared the analogy between grade redistribution and wealth redistribution “really dumb.” (This should show you what sophisticated thinkers most of these professors are: they call everything they disagree with “dumb.”)

But I think their real problem is the fact that the YAF video contest made students rethink the Marxist claptrap they’ve been force-fed during their college years.

Sadly, its going to take more than a couple of columns of prose to straighten out those mush filled heads. They have been subjected to that crap since Kindergarten. Its so bad now that they are telling their parents all about this new found economic miracle of socialist redistribution.

Sure. But it exactly what we need to be doing. Teaching. Good for the YAFfers, and good for Ms. Hertzog. We've got to start somewhere.

Great minds think alike (and so do ours, apparently).

Cheers!

It’s all about morality. Once you start thinking it’s OK to take from one person to give to another, it devolves into a discussion about how much.

Socialism is evil in that no person has the right to steal from another, even if the government says it’s OK or does the stealing for you.

Leftists cannot understand this argument, because they are immoral.

Great column, AshleyHerzog. Unfortunately, I fear there’s a great rift between us and them that no amount of discourse can resolve. You either get the idea that socialism is evil or you don’t.

As you wrote, liberal professors wouldn’t accept socialism in their own classrooms, but they have no problem supporting it in society at large. That’s irrational, but it is what it is.

there is an airheaded response on the site that ends with this:

“Most rich people I know did not earn their money, they took it from the pool first and most. Show me someone who is worth 100 million and 9 times out of 10, they did not earn it, they negotiated it. “

What the heck does “took it from the pool first” mean? Does that mean there was a money free for all that I missed and some Pluto looking blowhard stole everything before we could all line up nicely?

Another thing, I would like to know how many people this idiot knows that has $100m. There aren’t that many in that class. I know a couple and every single one of them started a company and grew it.

Finally, this might be the most offensive part of it all “they did not earn it, they negotiated it”. What in the hells bells does that mean? Negotiated with who? If it was to sell their business or to negotiate contracts to grow their business that IS earning it.

I get this overwhelming sense that we have devolved into a society where work equals literal sweat. It’s cute to think all the “worker bees” should get all the spoils. But there are no worker bees without someone to invest in their jobs to begin with.

My final thought for every idiot (including my own father) who spews this crapola. Go to China and look around. Try to do business there. See how the communists take the power from the hard working people and put it in the hands of the government officials. Do you really want to go lick the toes of the DMV officials every time you want a pay raise? How about when you want permission to upgrade soviet era housing? How about when you dare to want to start a business?

all these f-ing fools have no idea what the world really looks like outside of the US and the prettier parts of Europe. Every single socialist/communist enclave is a f-ing rathole where the “rich” government officials make less than my once a week maid.
