Here comes California's May 19 Rebellion
Examiner ^ | 5/10/09 | Hugh Hewitt

California voters head to the polls next week with predictions of doom echoing in their ears if they decline to endorse the massive tax hikes prescribed for them by big Democratic majorities in the statehouse, Arnold and a handful of now ruined-politically Republican legislators.

"Shrill" doesn't begin to describe the campaign designed to stampede the Golden State electorate. The latest ad has a weary, soot-covered fire-fighter urging a yes vote on the tax hike. The message is clear: Vote no and your homes will burn down.

Not even this sort of fear-mongering is moving the needle towards "yes" on the massive tax surge on next week's ballot as poll after poll shows all the key measures put forward by the tax-and-spend-and tax-again crowd failing badly.

Arnold is doing his best to summon up the old magic but his appeal long ago hit Gray Davis-levels. Arnold was elected to slash taxes and spending, and somehow he confused that mandate with orders to throw in with the public employee unions. Too bad. He could have been a contender.

The GOP "leaders" who signed on to this roadmap to ruin have been dumped by their caucuses, and go down in California history as the biggest marks to have ever had a seat at the poker game known as the "Big Five" negotiations wherein the governor and the top Republicans and Democrats in the State Assembly and Senate hash out budget matters.

This California voter will hit the poll early next Tuesday, and vote no across the board.

Illegals are costing CA billions a year.

From social services, crime, etc.

Yes it would be nice to send the illegals home.
With around 20 million + rounding them up and shipping them back. Do you think the tens of millions of Liberals and the MSM will let that happen. Think not.

I blame the people in other states who hire them.

But how can this be done? Do judges have the power to raise taxes?

I know it is not a simple as putting them on a bus and shipping them back. Would that it were. Just wondering if the state could start curtailing the benefits that are (IMO) illegally received by the illegals.

Hell, that probably wouldn’t work. It might help CA, but the illegals would just flee north and east.

Conservatives were never fooled by Arnold. Look at our posts back when he first got elected. We knew who and what Arnold was. He married a Kennedy who is a devoted liberal, for cryin out loud.

He was a moderate at best starting out. He was always to the left on social issues. He shifted to the left fiscally and socially ever since then.

It should not surprise anyone. We saw it coming.

They tried. It took years before the US Supreme Court allowed their “no” to overrule the judge’s “yes”

Not my recollection. The ninth circuit said no toProp187 and Gay Davis, as one of his first major decisions, decided not to appeal it to the USSC.

No matter waht happened do it again.

PS: Arizona’s law has been upheld in court. Let’s copy their paper.

When the Mexican gals are ready to have their kid, they come across and hit the ER.
When the illegals have their kids in the U.S. that kid is an automatic American Citizen. They get welfare, foodstamps, MediCal, etc.

The hospitals have to take care of the people who come into the ERs and the illegals use them as you would use
your regular Dr.

When the illegals commit crimes, they go through our justice system and into our prison system. Major costs.
If they were shipped back to Mexico, they just come back again to commit more crimes.

The voters of California have given the Donks a strong majority in both houses. I'm not sure why anyone shoudl expect them to vote against more taxes. A microcosm of the USA, California has probably passed the point where 50+% of the voters are net consumers of government, rather than net taxpayers.

Of course there may be enough who are so stupid they don't realize this and want their goodies for free. "NO! I don't want to pay $X more a month to keep my goodies worth $XX rolling in." It's possible, but a thin hope to run an election on.

I predict the taxes will pass.

Will the last productive person leaving California please turn the lights out. (Oh, wait. The environmentalists are already covering that task.)

It’s already happening. Schwarzenegger cut $74 million from SEIU wages. They went to Obama and he told Schwarzegger to reinstate their wages or face the loss of $6.8 BILLION of stimulus money.

So Obama is shilling for the unions in CA, forcing labor cutbacks to be cancelled, destroying federalism. Obama the Chicao thug is strongarming the states to payback the unions. It is wrong and despicable. We are governed by a thugocracy.

I have reached out for family and friends to vote NO across the board. Some have already done so by absentee ballot.
