Skip to comments.Nationwide ammo shortage affecting local dealers_(all sold out)
Posted on 05/12/2009 4:09:26 PM PDT by Flavius
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The country has seen an increase demand in ammunition in the last few months, and some say it's due to the fact that Obama is now in office, and many fear stricter gun control is on its way.
More gun control has always been feared by those who use guns for hunting, shooting and just wanting to have the right to protect themselves against intruders.
There was a rise in gun sales a few months back, and now we are seeing a rise in ammunition sales.
Stores can't even keep it on their shelves, and manufacturers have put businesses on waiting lists because they just cant keep up.
The Roseburg Gun Shop is not the only store in town having trouble keeping ammo in stock.

...and try to find primers if you load your own...damn totalitarians!
I was able to score 4 50 round boxes of winchester personal protection 230 gr 45 auto ammo..
And Im assured that 5 100 round value packs of winchester 9mm ball will be available for me to buy this friday morning..$21.00 a box.
It’s like Christmas.
its insane its what it is
Does anyone know from the ammo companies if they are making ammo and shipping? Are Russian imports coming in like Wolf?
A response to the out-of-control ammo reselling in the local newspaper classifieds. It was posted as a joke.
I’m hovering over the ammoman website credit card in hand hoping to score a case of 9mm ball..but not that russian crapola.
Not shooting steel case ammo in my expensive Walther P99. No way Jose’.
cheaper that dirt is advertising Silver Bear 9mm steel case ammo for sale at 20 bucks per box. Last year it was less than ten.
If they are, it has to be only a trickle.
I can't remember the last time I saw the Wolf sealed "spam cans" of ammo for sale. Wouldn't the sheer demand dictate that they should be rushing ammo to market?
Of course, there are persistent rumors that the Obammunist administration is screwing with their permits, etc, but, I haven't seen any real evidence of this. So far, it's only hearsay.
Cheaper than Dirt has the highest online prices I’ve seen.
You’re on a roll. NOw see if you can find a complete upper for an AR.
I hear superficial evidence in the media about these supposed ammo shortages, but I’ve not seen or heard anything definitive. I can certainly understand short term shortages in highly popular handgun rounds, but not across the board and I’ve heard nothing that would affect production long term.
Any of you hunters had trouble getting long rifle ammo, varmint rounds, long .22 rounds, 00 buckshot or rifled shotgun slugs yet?? Besides handgun rounds, those are a few more handy calibers to have in the ammo locker as well...any shortages noted??
It never hurts to stick some extra ammo in that short-term survival kit that you’re supposed to have anyway, and if things ever do get really bad, any caliber bullet, rifle round or shotgun shell makes excellent hard currency...
If you and yours haven’t been ready by now -oh well. This is an old story.
Ammoman.com has some right now (4:49PM PDT Tues - May 12 2009)
“And Im assured that 5 100 round value packs of winchester 9mm ball will be available for me to buy this friday morning..$21.00 a box.”
5 years ago, that used to cost 9.99 a box.
I recently found large quantitys of ammo in stock at:
Click on the contact us link and their phone number will come up. They have in stock 7.62 .223 and 9mm I am not sure what else they have in stock. 1,000 round cases great prices. As of today they still have large amounts in stock.
I also saw that Classicarms.us had some.
Using AIM for Commie ammo.
Does anyone know from the ammo companies if they are making ammo and shipping?
Guess maybe a year from now when there will be stock again.
You ain’t kidding. The ammo mfrs are using every spare primer in the country. I just happened to have some on hand or I would be totally SOL.

I’m in the Denver metro area. Was down at Sportman’s Warehouse the other day, almost no ammo other than an odd box here and there on the shelves. For the last two months local gun shop owners just stare and shake their heads when I ask about 38 Special ammo. Finally lucked into a private citizen willing to part with a few boxes. Shop owners say supplies of everything are snapped up quickly upon delivery, they blame hoarders.
I blame totalitarian President's.
I see, you are a “root causes” kind of person.
The shop owners here say it all started about last October. Carry permit apps are way up also. Looks like you are onto something.
Next year for primers. This years’ batches are already accounted for.
I know if O-hole signs one of those treaties it bans importation of foreign ammo - bye bye Wolf.
Exotic 12 Gauge Ammo and other Shotgun Accessories
Has anybody used these types of shotgun shells?
They won't even bother to claim "it's for the chillrun".
Yep. We're all racists.
These gun-hating liberals are same people who published and continue to publish patently racist diatribes about Condoleeza Rice and Clarence Thomas at every opportunity.
9mm has been an endangered species in the Willamette valley since January but in the last few weeks, I was able to get a couple of boxes from Walmart. :)
Gun advocates should consider legislation at the State level that would provide for privately produced State ammunition, out of federal controls.
This would be as easy as encouraging manufacturers of ammunition to have a production facility in the State, with a marking on casings to indicate that all parts of the ammunition were made in the State, that it is only for sale and use in the State, and is such cannot be regulated by the federal government.
This means that federal acts mandating alterations, like microstamping or chemical tag formulations to propellant, or restrictions on the sale or use of ammunition, like prohibiting lead bullets, would not apply to that ammo.
Around here there’s no buckshot, no handgun ammo other than .22, no 7.62, no 5.56, and little of anything else.
I bought a pistol in January. While waiting on the “instant background” check I was advised to check out the discount table. The lady told me that they had some reloading supplies there.
They had primers selling for $20 per thousand.
I bought several. OK, more than several.
I am in Texas and have sealed 1lb. bottles of Accurate 4350 extruded rifle powder to trade for 1,000 small pistol primers (per bottle). Willing to trade some other bottles of 4350 for the other components neede (i.e. brass and bullets). Send PM.
I hate to brag
But over in my corner I have a complete LMT upper that I got last week. I ordered it the week after the election and it was finally delivered last week.
I havent put it on because I dont have an aimpoint for it as yet and dont want to till I get some optics.
I paid too much
I paid 28 bucks per box...would have been 18 last year.
But keep in mind just down the street at gander mountain the same box of ammo was 49.00
I want to take a Suarez close range gunfighting class in Winchester virginia in Oct. I want to use my 1911 in it, but I need 500 rounds of ball.
If I cant get it, Im gonna have to carry my walther P99 9mm, for which I have plenty of magazines.
I was down in the Pasadena, Texas area when the big "economic crisis" hit and the poll numbers for McCain started looking dismal. Obama was saturating the airwaves with his "95% will get a tax reduction" lies. McCain announced, to Obama's great delight, that he was suspending his campaign in order to deal with the bailout.
Just the week before, gunshops had been quiet and well-stocked. Before I left Pasadena on October 20th, activity in the gun shops and at the Wal-Mart ammo counter had ramped-up considerably. Yeah, it did actually begin before the election, as soon as it was clear which way the wind was blowing.
isnt it funny that while most people are cutting back on everything theyre buying, yet people are buying guns and ammo like it aint gonna be made anymore?
What do they know..or think?
That is because it probably isnt going to be made any more. Barry is rapidly converting us to Venezuela.
the libs think we are all heavily armed..you havent MET heavily armed till you meet some of the people I’ve met.
And theyre unpapered guns.
Never have gotten into reloading, I just don’t shoot enough to justify getting set up. But I guess primers are the toughest thing right now so you are fortunate.
Anyone who thinks that they are going to come into the heartland and storm over people are going to be walking into D-Day 2. People here in No Mans Land, are prepared, arms wise of course, but most importantly mentally. They are sick and tired of being robbed by the Government. Any government employees that come into this area thinking that they are going to intimidate these people will have just bitten off way more than they are able to chew. We still have several small local dealers who seem to be able to get plenty of ammo, but I regularly witness people buying $3000 to $4000 worth of ammo at a time..........Bring it on Barry.
These shortage explanations are BULL. How did we EVER win WWII if we couldn’t produce more ammo than THIS? After 65 years and over double the population, we produce LESS ammo? UH-UH! It IS a Conspiracy!
Lindsey Kovacevich isn't a hometown girl either, coming from SoCal by way of Colorado. She was a Denver Nuggets cheerleader though.
I received an email alert from “Ammoman” at 7:05PM stating that they had just gotten in some 5.56mm 55gr ammunition.
I got home from work at about 8:00pm and checked my mail.
Ammoman was already out...
I’ve seen some retailers state flat out that they don’t expect to have their next shipments until after September.
Complete upper? Heck, I was quoted a 4 month wait on a bolt/carrier assy & charging handle! Mark
