If you make big bucks or enjoy alcohol, cigarettes and Coke the government might hit you up to pay for fixing the nations health care system.
On Tuesday, the Senate Finance Committee peeked into vending machines and liquor stores, company payrolls and health savings accounts, looking for a mix of tax increases and spending cuts as a way to pay for a health overhaul which could cost more than $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
Experts thought the big debate might be public plan vs. no public plan. But that may well pale in comparison to the difficulty of settling on a way to finance health care reform.
I wish there were a number of painless options, Robert Greenstein, executive director of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, wrote in his prepared testimony. There arent.
There appeared to be a bubble of support among the experts for taxing bad behavior, including a $2 tax on a pack of cigarettes and a higher excise tax on alcohol.

I’m about to throw down the smokes for good. I’ll be giving myself a great tax cut!
Better yet, with the money saved I can buy lots of ammo!
(getting ready to leave to go pick up a Saiga 12g w00t))
yeah...I’m thinking its about time to start looking at an alternative to the current regieme in power at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
2200% increase in the tax on tobacco. That says something.
What is next---taxing beer?
asked???? how about forced by an out of control gubmint.
I think I will cry when the time comes to toss my cigarettes, beer, and Diet Coke into the harbor.
Generic cigarettes are the new popular brand.
Hubby quit smoking a year ago.
I smoke when I drink so I stopped drinking. (i’m not kidding)
I’ve just gotten 500 teabags from Sam’s Club and I’m trying to cut down on Diet Coke.
When they tax Coffee, someone’s going to get hurt.
How about taxing a real killer-fried poultry!
The people that Obama gave a pay raise to on welfare will be ticked when their MD 20/20 goes up. But it is free anyway why should they care?
Republicans need to make the case that when government pays for everyone’s health care, it will run everyone’s life.
Coffee is already ex$pen$ive enough!
I roll my own and had it to about .91 per pack..then his increase went into effect..it’s now (including tubes) about $2.60 per pack..
I ran out of tobacco a few days ago but have a few packs (of the cheap stuff) left..I’m seriously debating quitting, however, he’s taxing everything else so I’m stuck paying the tax no matter what I do..
I was already smoking generic years ago. Then I switched to roll your own loose tobacco. The price on that more than doubled with the new tax to over $50 for a 16 oz bag.
So there you have it. Welcome to the world of Obama.
I may start growing tobacco.
ALL of this taxing to pay for illegals health care! This pisses me off beyond pissed.
>>Coffee is already ex$pen$ive enough!<<
So is gasoline but that never stopped a Dem from proposing a tax on it!
NEXT..... Obama will want to tax our carbon gases, our flatulance!
DEMS EYE TAX ON SMOKES, BEER, SODA AND CHIPS...
“The Senate Finance Committee considers the option of taxing vices to pay for health care reform. “
As taxes make these vices pricey, people will remember that tobacco grows in the ground, and a still is not high-tech. American entrepreneurship will continue to amaze the world.
I hate chicken. Tax the hell out of it, turkey too!
>>She’s going to keel over dead when she see’s what happens with the new taxes. <<
I’m going to be frying chips for the hubby too.
Not that difficult to grow, depending on what part of the country you’re in. Good luck on curing it. Do you have a big barn?
You know, this is reminiscent of the colonies right around the time of the Stamp Act.
People back then were totally fed up with taxes that amounted to a few percent, and the Crown saw fit to impose more, without giving anything back to the producers.
What is next-—taxing beer?
Beer and liquor are already taxed to hell....but that won’t stop them from adding more...
Geez, I hate when I’m right.
Just before the latest tax increase on cigs, I was telling my customers that soda and snacks would be next. Most laughed at that.
Thank you, Mr. Obama...you’ve already cut my business by a third with the cig tax. Now you buttwipes want to shove the knife in deeper and eliminate another third of my income.
Damn you all to hell.(and I really mean that!)
Mr. Obama, Why do you hate widows and children so much?
It was my dream to run a little country store.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
Now Obama is micromanaging Cheerios cereal as headlined on Drudge.
He can kiss terrorists asses but go after cheerios what an empty suit!
The aspect of this you explained cuts MORE jobs. Obama can go to hell.
Exactly. Fatty, greasy, high cholesterol foods are much more harmful to you than adult beverages (used in moderation.
Tobacco I have no sympathy for, but if it's so harmful, who don't they just ban it outright?
Just gotta love regressive taxes that target the very people that vote for dems.
That's it! I found one, and jumped at the chance. The gun shop that has it is a pretty good distance from me, so I called and literally made a deposit on it over the phone. I'll probably pick it up this weekend. It looks like you can get quite allot of accessories for it, judging from the pic. Are they reliable? Normally I wouldn't buy a gun without looking at it in person, but the gun dealer said it was brand new/never been shot.
I can't wait to buy one of those high cap drums for it. No matter what. One thing we can be sure of is these shotguns WILL NOT be legal someday. It's just a matter of time.....
The collapsible stock and triple-rail fore end are reliable. The RGB scope and laser/flashlight combos are great and available from Sportsman’s Guide. The 20 round drum can be tricky and requires a little work to get it to fit and feed correctly. Just be patient. The best vendors I’ve found for after-market parts are Gilbert’s Guns and Mississippi Auto Arms. Google them.
You’re right. They are bound to be made illegal at some point. Best of luck.
Thanks for the tips. I picked it up yesterday. Out of the box, it seems like a great shotgun. With about $500 or so worth of accessories, a little gunsmithing, and mags it will be an incredible defense weapon.
I agree completely. Your estimate of $500 is spot on. I spent less than $20 more than that on mine.
