Pelosi Blames Bush for Social Security and Medicare Woes Wednesday, May 13, 2009 By Susan Jones, Senior Editor

(CNSNews.com) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, reacting to a dire government report on the solvency of Social Security and Medicare, says it’s all the Bush administration’s fault.

"The Trustee's reports reveal that, just as they left behind a record of recession, deficits and debt, the Bush administration's economic and fiscal mismanagement undermined the strength of Social Security and Medicare,” Pelosi said Tuesday in a news release.

According to the trustees’ reports, issued Tuesday, Social Security is spending more than it is taking in, partly because of the economic recession and its depressing effect on payroll taxes. “Medicare's financial status is much worse,” the trustees said.

Nevertheless, Pelosi on Tuesday insisted that President Obama and Congress “will keep the promises of Social Security and Medicare to today's seniors and persons with disabilities and tomorrow's retirees.”

She said Obama’s economic stimulus program is helping, by providing seniors with a $250 rebate this month.

"The previous administration's shortsighted economic policies and fiscal recklessness have made the task of strengthening Social Security and Medicare for the future more difficult, but President Obama and Congress are prepared to meet this challenge,” Pelosi said.

National Socialist blame game. Just like Hitler. Blame all the woes on the capitalist system, the seize control and have the government dictate everything.

Within 4 years, our country will be gone.

Unlike the NAZIs that sought to rid themselves of the sick and twisted element of society, ours NAZIS ARE the sick and twisted of society.

Our children will likely be sent to forced sex camps for indoctrination into pedophilia.

If anything, Social Insecurity and Mediscare are Big Government programs that need to die, or at least be partially privatized to force adults to act like grown ups and take responsibility for their own lives and not expect hard working American taxpayers to foot the bills for them.

He did make it a centerpiece of the domestic program during the state of the union at the beginning of his 2nd term.

But, when Congress didn’t pass the privatization bill, he didn’t push Social Security reform any more.

[Compare how he pushed for amnesty for illegal — 1 effort just prior to 911 and 3 major efforts during his last 2 years.]

They have been in charge of Congress since Jan 2007 so why haven’t they fixed the problem. This Blame Bush mantra is going to wear thin since they have been in charge for over two years but then will Republicans in DC use it? After Cornyn endorsed Crist yesterday for the FL Senate, I have little faith in the GOP so-called power people.

It is past time for the Grassroots to go recruit good candidates, support good candidates with money and TIME, and tell people like Cornyn to go take a flying leap. None of my money is going to DC — mine is going straight to candidates. NRSC needs to stay out of primaries.

It is important in 2010 that we field a slate of ethical, conservative candidates. We need to take every seat we can, and we can only do that by becoming activists on the ground in supporting candidates that can win in the fall. None of this standing on principle and electing someone who is extreme right that cannot win. Go for the most conservative that can win in the general. You have to start somewhere and this notion it is okay to lose if you stand on principle sends your agenda into the garbage can as we are witnessing. I have conservative principles but we have to get candidates that can win elections. Anyone staying home in 2010 because they don’t like a candidate needs their head examined because they have not learned their lesson with ZERO.

We need to take back seats in 2010. Sorry for the rant but I am steamed about Cornyn endorsing Crist.

Defeat Bush plan first, Pelosi says

By | Originally published 10:33 p.m., May 17, 2005, updated 12:00 a.m., May 18, 2005

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi yesterday said most Democrats approve leadership's strategy of not having their own Social Security reform plan for now and of focusing on defeating President Bush's plan.

She said only a few Democrats want to move ahead now with Social Security proposals to counter Mr. Bush's.

“Those are exceptions,” the California Democrat said of Democrats like Reps. Robert Wexler of Florida and Dennis Moore of Kansas, who have proposed their own Social Security bills and say other Democrats should follow suit and engage Republicans with specifics.

“Overwhelmingly, our members understand the unity that we have” in focusing on the message that Mr. Bush's private-accounts plan is a terrible idea, Mrs. Pelosi said.

She said “maybe one or two people” want to pursue a different strategy for defeating Mr. Bush's proposal, but “we have over 200 people.”

House Minority Whip Steny H. Hoyer, Maryland Democrat, agreed with Mrs. Pelosi that now is not the right time for Democrats to offer their Social Security plan, because Mr. Bush still is insisting on creating private accounts, and the president's effort must be stopped first.

“At some point in time, I think, we are going to offer alternatives,” Mr. Hoyer said. “I don't think that time has come. The reason I don't think that time has come is because the president continues to press his position. We need to be confident that the American public makes it clear they rejected that alternative.”

Pelosi blasts Bush's plan for Social Security reform
Oakland Tribune , Feb 24, 2005 by Josh Richman, STAFF WRITER

SAN FRANCISCO — When Republicans say President Bush's proposed changes to Social Security fit his vision of an “ownership society,” what they really mean is, “You're on your own,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi charged Wednesday.

More than 300 people packed into the San Francisco Public Library's Koret Auditorium and a nearby overflow room as Pelosi, D- San Francisco, hosted a town hall meeting on Social Security. Nobody spoke in support of the president's plan.

“Democrats believe any Social Security proposal must meet three key principles: It must not add to the deficit, it must not slash benefits and it must be fair,” the House's top Democrat told the crowd, adding that borrowing trillions of dollars to switch to a system of private investment accounts is unconscionable. “Democrats cannot support that tax on our children's futures.”

(snip)

Pelosi called Bush on the carpet for claiming that Social Security is imminently bankrupt; she noted it won't even have to dip into its trust fund for another dozen years, and with that fund could keep paying full benefits for another 47 years if nothing changes.

Abortion undermined the future of Social Security. With 50 million workers killed in the womb, the Baby Boomers had no hope of having younger workers pay for their SS checks. The checks will NOT be in the mail within 20 years.
As for Medicare, LBJ, the Liar in Chief of the Dems in the’60s, said that it would never cost more than $9 billion a year. In 2008, it cost $369 billion. So much for those rosy predictions that the politicians foresee when they want to buy votes. Medicare is set to go broke within 13 years, and that is counting on an economic recovery that may not come for years. Pelosi should just shut up. Socialism will be the death of this nation.

REPORT: PUBLIC FUND TO FAIL 1 YEAR SOONER - ESTIMATE FUELS DEBATE OF POLITICAL STRATEGIES TO FIX SOCIAL SECURITY
Modesto Bee, The (CA) - Thursday, March 24, 2005
Author: LAWRENCE M. O’ROURKE, BEE WASHINGTON BUREAU

*EXCERPT*

‘EFFORTS TO MANUFACTURE A CRISIS’

But Democrats in Congress who oppose Bush’s privatization plan welcomed the report as evidence that the country can make Social Security solvent without drastic overhaul that includes diversion of Social Security taxes to private accounts.

The report “reinforces one basic reality — in its current form, Social Security will be able to pay full benefits until 2041 and even after that will be able to pay 74 percent of benefits,” said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi , D-San Francisco.

“This finding flatly contradicts Republican efforts to manufacture a crisis in Social Security to justify a privatization plan that is unaffordable, unnecessary and unwise,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi Focuses on Personal Journey in Memoir
Los Angeles Times (LATWP News Service) (CA) - Tuesday, July 29, 2008
Author: Noam N. Levey

EXCERPT

Pelosi provides hints of her leadership style only in one instance: her 2005 confrontation with Bush over his proposal to create private retirement accounts in place of the Social Security system. At the time, some Democrats suggested that the party come up with an alternative platform. But she and her allies chose another strategy.

“First, you must take down the ratings of your opposition,” Pelosi writes. “Second, you must differentiate yourselves from them. And third, only when the time is right do you present your platform.”
