American Psychological Association revises statement on homosexuality
By Bob Unruh

Posted on 05/13/2009 9:44:45 PM PDT by Maelstorm

A publication from the American Psychological Association includes an admission that there is no "gay" gene, according to a doctor who has written about the issue on the website of National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality.

Dr. A. Dean Byrd Ph.D, the past president of NARTH, confirmed that the statement from the American Psychological Association came in a brochure that updates what the APA has advocated for years.

Specifically, in a brochure that first came out about 1998, the APA stated: "There is considerable recent evidence to suggest that biology, including genetic or inborn hormonal factors, play a significant role in a person's sexuality."

However, in the update: a brochure now called, "Answers to Your Questions for a Better Understanding of Sexual Orientation & Homosexuality," the APA's position changed.

The new statement says:

"There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles. ..."

I absolutely knew this and have been belittled by my PhD friends for not believing. Canadian scientists knew this years ago. Their work didn't receive press in this country because it was politically incorrect. We will be brought down by political correctness in this country.

Many homosexuals now believe all people are homosexual: My theory is that everyone in the world is gay, but few dare admit it.

I hope Mr. Byrd comes through the inevitable scrutiny easier than Miss California is.

Interesting. I’ve been calling for a renewal of the debate over nature vs nurture instead of passing laws regarding choice. Watch for freedom of choice to become the next cry.

These kinds of explanations for homosexual behavior always seem subject to new interpretations or corrections. Until someone convinces me otherwise I’m sticking with my theory. Homosexual behavior is a symptom of a mental disorder.

The worst part is that the science has NEVER supported the activist claim that there is anything like a gay gene. It is not even a very “smart” idea. The whole assertion was designed to simultaneously play to the ego of people who like the idea of knowing that they could not fall prey to the temptation of homosexuality because it is “genetic” and to the other side who hunger for justification for their deviant desires and more importantly their actions. I challenge anyone who wants to cry bigot to spend time reading the research prior to the 1970s through current and then tell me what changed other than the politics of the issue? The science did not change. There were more biased studies conducted by open homosexuals that is for certain but even within the biased studies they could not fabricate what they desired. It didn’t stop the media from promoting fluff pieces on the issue. Just like global warming there are countless Ph.D level scientists that stand opposed to the activist pseudoscience that have been used to shift public opinion.

It’s a reaction to rejection. Yes, it’s a super sensitized disorder.

Homosexual behavior is a symptom of a mental disorder.

Kind of obvious I would say.

You know I would think that common sense would dictate the nature/nurture idea, but hormones more than likely play one of the greatest roles. Testosterone itself plays a key role in masculinity, both physically & emotionally.

What’s horrible for a person is when they are born hermaphrodite. I met a little girl, 7 years old about 6 years ago. After knowing her for about 2 years, I noticed that she started going to school, the same school she had always attended, dressed as a boy. I gently asked her mother what was up with that, and she told me of her child’s condition and said that her daughter has decided she wanted to live as a male.

Her mother never let her wear a bathing suit because it outlined both of her sets of genitalia. I have to say the emotional trauma this child may experience from going through school where peers knew her as a girl, could put her/him over the top. I think I may have considered changing schools to give her/him a fresh start, with no one ever knowing his female side.

Some people say that they would have had one of the sets of genitalia removed at birth. Well, which one? This is difficult because you need to wait & see which way the child’s hormones are going to push their development, especially emotionally. But who decides this? As a parent, who would risk it? I don’t know what I personally would do if I had a child like this.

I think its a confusing issue, because of the emotions involved. The physical appearance doesn’t have half the impact that the emotional side has in pushing a person to a like gender.

It’s probably from all the toxins and possibly certain plastics in the environment. Even sunscreen contains estrogenic toxins that affect a developing baby’s sex organs and feminizes the baby.

It is a disorder. I have touched homosexuals, I know a few personally. One I went to school with was very likely molested by his uncle who was not just a homosexual but an arsonist. Another avoided Matthew Sheppard fame because of the minor details that he had given under aged kids drugs and booze till one night the 17 year he had molested for years killed him. Another girl I know of who repeatedly pretended to be a boy actively tried to deceive girls and then when rejected on being found out often threatened and stalked them.

There is a lot of pain and lies in the homosexual lifestyle. It is also a very ugly place, occupied by bathroom encountered and a blur of partners that would put the any heterosexual to shame. It is not the same as being heterosexual those that tell us that are lying all the while attempting to entrap another generation into the lie.

This is not the least about civil rights. It is about protecting a lie because the truth is often too ugly to share.

A lot of men turn to the gay lifestyle for one reason, easy sex. They can’t find women who will have sex but there’s an abundance of gay men who will bend right over without hesitation.

Oh, thank goodness. I was sure when I read the Topic headline the APA had just voted and had decided heterosexuality was a mental disorder. Escaped that bullet for now, but for how long?

I've commented several times before on FR that the change in the DSM which removed Homosexuality was one based solely on political considerations, not on any evidence that homosexuality is a normal variation of the human condition.

What you describe is hardly the same thing. Sexual behavior is highly varied and is limited only by the imagination. One only has to explore documented fetishes and varied sexual behavior to understand this. Hermaphroditism is another thing altogether and I do see a flaw in your reasoning though I have great sympathy for such children and the adults they become. The idea that hormones be the guide for behavior is the casting off of the mantle of humanity. The desires of a person can be varied and sometimes even violent but while all men have desires all driven by the endocrine system interfaced intimately with the mind in such a way that it is hard to determine sometimes which comes first. That is not to say a child born with ambiguous genitalia does not faces real challenges and offer a unique situation.

A good link is below.
http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/BornHermaphrodite/

However confusing this with the plight of sexual activists would be an great injustice. Homosexuality in particular has a history of being defined as a mental disorder. Also the goals of sexual activists should not be confused or married with the tolerance of such individuals. Their desire to use the public schools, government, and popular culture to enforce sexual ambiguity and to promote an incorrect sexual behavior on the general populace places the egos and sexual desires of a minority over the psychological well being and the normal development of majority which even now faces threats at the mere question or debate of such issues.

Some have no choice about their physical malformations but everyone with a certain degree of intelligence has a choice about how they ultimately behave in relation to others whether it be sexually or not. Those that promote the idea that their individual sexual behavior is not within their realm of control are promoting a dangerous license of which we have already seen the result not just among Homosexuals but among heterosexuals with disease and single mothers and the furtherance of the idea that a child does not need both a mother and a father which has had a devastating result for the children involved.

I have a theory... Queers are just hedonistic whores with no self image or respect and would screw a rock pile if they thought there was a snake in it.
