Rasmussen: Only 38% Agree With Cheney That Obama Has Hurt National Security
Rasmussen ^ | May 14, 2009

Posted on 05/14/2009 10:10:27 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Just 38% of U.S. voters agree with former Vice President Dick Cheney that America is less safe now because of changes President Obama has made in national security.

Fifty-one percent (51%) disagree with Cheney, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

The partisan divided is predictable: 72% of Republicans agree with Cheney, while 80% of Democrats disagree. Among voters not affiliated with either party, 35% think Cheney is right, but 50% say he’s wrong.

Thirty-nine percent (39%) of all voters attach some importance to Cheney’s comments since he left office, but only 17% say his opinions are Very Important. Most (57%) rate the ex-vice president’s views as not very important (26%) or not at all important (31%).

As for Cheney’s former boss, 83% agree that former President George W. Bush has been right to stay out of the news. Just 10% disagree. Bush stated that Obama “deserves his silence” so that the new president could move ahead without criticism from his predecessor. Just 10% disagree with Bush.

Just 38%? Almost 40% seems like a pretty big number to me especially considering that we haven't had any big foreign policy stories since Barry took over (skinny pirates aside).

When (and it will be when, not if) Obama fails miserably in first real foreign policy test, that 38% will quickly grow to 60%.

What's even worse is that Ras says that 51% think Zero is doing a good or excellent job at handling the economy.

If this is anywhere near true, we are f-ing screwed but good.

I’m not sure. The biggest idiots recently appear to be the American public.

I intend to stay as far away as possible from major cities and attactive terrorist targets while Obama is President.

The stupidity of the American public is absolutely astounding.

Conservatives see Al Qeada types as the enemy, liberals see conservative Americans as the enemy.

The more “bad” news I hear about Cheney, the more I wish he did run for POTUS. He’s the only grown up in the news as of late.

Thank God for him, and for the Bush administration’s policies these past eight years.

“”“Only” 38 percent?? That sounds pretty signifigant to me, particularly considering the ignorance of the public. I’m surprised 38% can identify Cheney.””

32% of the voting age citizens of the USA voted for Obama.

(based on 217 Million in 2004 voting age an 69.5 million voted for obama)

Slightly off topic, but Cheney needs to shut up. I fully agree with everything he’s saying, but it was tacky when Clinton and Gore wouldn’t shut up after President Bush was elected, and it’s tacky when Cheney won’t shut up now that Obama’s in office.

If he wanted to continue to have his voice heard, he shoulda run for President in the primary against McCain. Could you imagine a Cheney-Palin ticket? :D

Exactly how relevant is the poll of a population that has been bombarded with anti-Bush, anti-Cheney and anti-Republican propaganda for eight years?

To be vilified as Cheney has, 38% is a huge number. Just think if the other 62% had a chance to see him make his case. The MSM has made him out to be a monster and the average American judges him by what they've heard. Being the articulate person he is, he should be paraded before every audience he can find. He ain't the dummy he's made out to be.

I’ll stand with that 38% any day of the week. More likely that there will be people there who’ll have my back. The other side will scatter like confetti when TSHTF.

Former officials of the Bush administration are threatened with criminal charges and/or disbarment and you think Cheney should shut up?

That’s insane.

Bingo...people's negative opinion of Cheney has been set in their minds by a non-stop onslaught of propaganda spewed by the media and the entertainment industry. People that can actually think for themselves and have actually heard Cheney speak know better...

The paradox is that the more schooling Americans get, the more easily they are duped by the media. This has been true since the penny paper become popular back in the 19th Century. One statistic I have always found interesting is that
schoolteachers read on the average fewer than 2 books a year that has nothing to do with their jobs.

Where was the polling done? A community organizer's meeting of ACORN activists?

Not if they’re mortal victims. I doubt if their last thought will be, gee I should have listened to Dick.

Disagree.

The socialists are trying to intimidate the public as well as criminalize the past administration.

These people need to be RESPONED to. The Democrats get away with far too much lying.
