The world is going to miss The United States of America.
The "What is an American?" article quoted above was not penned by an Australian (or a dentist), but by Peter Ferrara, an associate professor of law at the George Mason University School of Law in Northern Virginia. Mr. Ferrara's commentary was originally published in the National Review on 25 September 2001.
I miss it already.
I believe that a Citizen of the United States is a special person. They live in the premier nation on the planet, for the time being.
I do have a pet peeve though, and that is the use of the word American to describe U. S. Citizens. I know that is a common practice, but in truth every person living in North, Central, or South America are Americans.
People living on the European continent are Europeans.
People living on the Asian continent are Asians.
People living on the African continent are Africans.
We are a special breed. We are U. S. Citizens.
The use of American is particularly annoying in light of the fact that the powers that be are trying to blur the significance of what it is to be a U. S. Citizen. The Mexican national in the United States, has just about all the rights of a U. S. Citizen these days. Good solid citizens are all that prevents our leaders from granting them licenses, and just about every other right, that should actually be limited to us.
We know that they vote. We know that they get away with it scott free. So I just want to make it clear, who we are and what we are.
I capitalize it, and refer to us as Citizens of the United States.
“The world is going to miss The United States of America.”
I miss it already.

I miss it, too. The sad part is that so many don’t know it’s gone.
You’re not alone in that.
Good points.
I haven’t run across your posts recently. Good to see you out this evening.
Bingo. When is the rest of “America” going to catch on that “We’re not in America anymore, Dorothy?”
I mean, gimme a break with this "America's gone" crap, please. Enough with the hysterics. "Our" side isn't in charge in DC--and hasn't been for a long time. So we boo-hoo and say it's over why? The country disappears between terms when "our" side isn't in power?
Can't join the pity party. Long live the USA.
Bingo. When is the rest of America going to catch on that Were not in America anymore, Dorothy?

When they are in deep pain. It is going to take something very terrible to wake up most Americans. Even then, they won’t understand what hit them.
The evil ones are going to answer for this.

... forget the World .... we real American’s miss it most!
On a lighter note, I moved to Wyoming 2 years ago ... and I believe that there are more real “Americans” per capita here than possibly any other State!
But we ain't done yet...we still have one in the chamber.
On January 20th, 2009 America was hijacked.

It sure was. Now we will see if America has the will to take it back. I doubt if more than 20% will even try. Sad.
And, may He get on with it--time's awastin'.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I had never heard of the Australian dentist before now.
