America, god gave his grace to thee. Obama can’t touch it!

Seems like you are skimping on capitalizing your words.

I understand why you prefer “U.S. Citizen”, but we’re the only country I know of that uses America in its name, so “American” is equally valid and a little more poetic.

Americans can look like:

Americans can look like:

Americans can look like almost anything, except:

Guys, gals, good people. The writer honors Americans for standing up for the oppressed, defending the helpless and doing the right thing no matter the consequences. That’s been our creed since World War One and we’ve stood together, a mish-mash of mutts, making it work.

We will NOT lie down now for a financial backlash nor give up helping the people in the countries our armed forces are deployed in. Once we’re landed we’re committed and giving up is not in American vocabulary. That’s what separates and distinguishes America from all nations that came before it. We worship justice, right over wrong and have the example of those who gave all for that in wars to live up to.

America is a beacon of hope and a concept millions of people across this world perceive as the brass ring they wish to catch.

To lose faith in us (U.S.) now is losing faith for the world. We’re better than that.

I really like that piece, it’s kinda weird how to some (not the original poster) it somehow seems more meaningful if it comes from some Australian dentist than from an American, I guess. (?) Maybe that’s why someone decided to pretend some foreigner wrote it. I think many Americans do just fine when talking about what makes an American.

Yeah, I get it. I also acknowledge and laud Australia always backing America. Your turn.

I’m not immune to that argument. I use the term at times, but I honestly try to address us as U. S. Citizens as much as I can.

I agree with your comments. That’s why I loathe what the left was able to pull off, when it came to Vietnam. There was mismanagement to be sure, but we could have pulled that effort through, but Walter Cronkite and the other leftists prevailed. Gag me to the max!

That’s a rough pet peeve to have.

In a republic, the highest honor is to be a citizen. Behind this lie rights and responsibilities far different from those of a mere ‘subject’. In this, I agree.

However, since we call ourselves The United States of AMERICA, the use of ‘American’ seems apt and not inappropriate at all. In truth, we are in the Western Hemisphere but we don’t call ourselves Western Hemispherians even though the term is technically correct, common usage aside.

I have a friend from Scotland who’s pet peeve is how Americans use the word England to refer to the UK. he’s out to educate every single one of us - look for him someday. I think he’s going door to door.

I wish him luck in his quest like I wish you luck. Don Quixote has nothing on you guys. The point for me is not hanging up on a word or phrase, but educating people on the true meaning of being a citizen in a great republic.

someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

I'd suggest they try that somewhere in Texas, preferably at a shooting range.

Dang skippy. Tet was such a “failure” that the Viet Cong cried tears into their cold rice and rat meat for a full year after that. Yet Cronkite was allowed to enjoy a very long and wealthy retirement while many thousands of South Vietnamese were killed and tortured for their ideology.

Guess Cronkite is the template for the modern liberal. May he fall off his sailboat and into a shark. But, mmm, that’s kind of fast for what he did.

Ed Murrow had a wide mind but I dare say he’d kick his former coffee boy in the nads repeatedly for betraying our country. On a cheerful note that may be Walter’s assignment in the afterlife. “And that’s the way it is...ow, ow, ow, ow...”

To fathom that 7% of the voters who did not bother voting, could have countered the 7% which handed Obama Inc the revenge bent, neo-Marxist, totalitarian majority, which have been fast tracking for the total destruction of America & Western civilization since this madness was allowed.

I understand your point. I think yours is a valid response. I still maintain that it is important to differentiate between being a person living in the Americas, and a rare breed, the Citizen of the United States.

I think one of the best arguments from your point of view would be that almost all other nations have the ability to use the name of their nation easier than we can.

For instance, Canadians, Mexican, Bolivians, Brazilians, Peruvians, Columbians, Costa Ricans... so Americans does seem to fit right in. Still, I don’t think it’s specific enough. I do think people of other nations do think it is though.

Perhaps I’m just making a fine point here, but I do want it to be something people think about, even if they don’t ultimately agree.

Thanks for the comments.

LOL, thanks NewRomeTacitus. We can hope. Har.

It is hard to grasp what our media sees in helping to destroy one of the few places on the planet where they can say literally anything they want and get away with it.
