As of the most recent Gallup Poll, Republicans have drawn even with Democrats in party affiliation.

The dems had an 11 pts lead as recetnly as last month.

When you include independents who lean in one direction, they're tied as well at 45%. Last month the dems lead by 19 at 53-34.

A 19 shift in a month, that looks like a collapse to me.

But I'm sure Newsweek and Time can continue to trumpet the death of the GOP, as their market share and ad revenue go down the toilet and Newsweek all but admits it's failed as magazine by abandoning its format to become a liberal version of The Economist(good luck with that).

Couple this with recent polls showing support for gun rights and the pro life cause at their highest levels ever...and that's positive movement. Especially so early in to a new term.

I'm sure we'll hear all about this on the new tonight and it will a cover story in Newsweek, Time, the NYT, etc...

Well, not the NYT. Their star columnist was just exposed as a plagiarist, only a ffew years after one of their star reporters was exposed as such, and while their stock price has plunged to its lowest level ever and lost 90% of its value.

These polling organizations have typically be overpolling democrats to mislead the public with their poll numbers.

Telling me that they are now polling “equal” numbers of Republicans and Democrats (as self-identified) only gives me baseline information for the rest the poll, it does nothing to tell me about the actually percentage makeup of the voting public (which runs 50-50).

I'm far from a sympathizer or defender of the ‘Rats, but looking at this objectively, it's hard to believe you can get such a large shift in something as deeply held (for most of us) as party identification in such a short period of time. I don't doubt that the pendulum is swinging toward the GOP because of “buyer's remorse” for Obama, but such a large swing seems too good to believe. You would have to attribute it to polling technique - at least to some extent. Let's see how consistent that change is in future polls.

I don't think it's that deeply held for a lot of people -e.g., independants, the wishy-washy people. They just react on emotion, and, if so, this is a sign that the Zero's marxist-socialist, arrogant, controlling, tax-and-spend, huge debt, lying, scheming, narcissist style of "governing" is p*ssing people off.

Obama is a whore who would sell his grandmother for votes or power. (wait he did that).
Obama is a whore who would sell his pastor out, for votes or power. (wait, he did that too!)

Obama will trim here and there, tweek his agenda to try and appear “moderate” or avoid the backlash.

Will he only generate a liberal 3rd Party challenge?

The left is furious with Obama over tribunals and other stuff.

We definitely have a 2 Party system.

If the Republican Party is not conservative enough for you -— Work hard in the next Primary and make your voice heard.

3rd Party ideas are for people who want to help Obama and Pelosi!

2010 will be a watershed year for Republicans, IF and ONLY IF, they are willing to speak the truth to the lies of the democrats and the Fauxbama administration, and are willing to toss aside the idiotic go along to get along crap of certain folks and return to conservative principles. Admit the mistakes of the last 8 years domestically, and yes folks the Bush administration was a disaster in many ways domestically.

While I applaud Cheney for being out there calling the liars liars, where the hell is everyone else? You have a party that has decided to put more debt on the country in 4-6 years than we’ve acquired in our entire existence, and you can hear crickets chirping.

Admit the mistakes, throw out the bums who helped them happen, and stand up for the principles that made the party strong in the first place. Stop standing on the sidelines.

I’m tired of choosing between:

[] Rapid Destruction (D)

[] Slow Destruction (R)

How about a party that supports, promotes, follows, and defends the Constitution of the United States?

That certainly ain’t the GOP.

Absolutely! I’ve been saying this for months now. The Republican Party has a rock solid Party platform. Contrast this to the Libertarian Party which favors weakening our military, open borders, same sex marriage, abortion on demand, legalized drugs and prostitution. The Reform Party isn’t very conservative. The American Independent Party has been irrelevant since it inception.

Of course the GOP isn’t perfect, no man-made institution is. To insist upon perfection and ideological purity is simply foolish. The GOP is already a better place now that Arlen Spector has left it. Hopefully other RINOs like Collins, Snowe, and Powell will soon follow suit.

Those serious minded conservatives who really do want replace BH0-Pelosi-Reid know that only through a conservative dominated rejuvenated GOP can this be done. The minor parties will only serve to divide us, distract us, and peel off votes which would otherwise be ours.

Of course we will continue to have gadflies and iconoclasts among our conservative ranks who take great pleasure in taking pot shots at the Republican Party. The more realistic and sensible conservatives will roll up their sleeves, go to work, and take back our Party which rightfully belongs to us to begin with. The GOP Platform is just fine. It is the RINOs who ignore it who are the problem. And fortunately they are now leaving the Party.

Take two pieces of information: first for the first time there are more pro-life proponents in America than pro-choice advocates and now the results of this Gallup poll.

Now look at what happened on April 17th: Sarah Palin’s Evansville pro-life speech. Then last week Sarah Palin’s support of the free speech rights of Carrie Prejean and on the weekend Sarah’s condemnation of Notre Dame for inviting Obama to speak at its commencement ceremonies and giving him an honorary degree.

You take Sarah Palin out of the equation and do not get this result. The GOP as a party has done virtually nothing to deserve the Gallup result.

Does anybody wonder why Sarah is public enemy #1 to Obama and why she must be destroyed ASAP?

While I’m probably as big a fan of Gov Palin as anyone, I don’t think you can really credit her with these results. I highly doubt a speech that wasn’t even covered by any major media led to some unprecedented shift in abortion views. Or that brief blurbs from her on Ms. Prejean and the Notre Dame thing effected a double digit shift in party ID.

If she really had that impact, we ouldn’t have seen Wanda Sykes at the Correspondents’ Dinner last week, and I wouldn’t have referred to her as Gov Palin, but as VP Palin.

But, if those who know better do decide that she is the reason, I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of her, which I won’t object to.

The Indymods, may not be bright, and may not be paying close attention, but they do know how to punish poor performance.

As has been stated here previously, it's too late for a peaceful change via the political process. Acorn, Move-On, and George Soros are in charge of the elections in all the right places to insure that Democrats are in power in Washington in perpetuity. The polls can say that the Republican candidate is ahead by double digits, but come election night, he/she will lose by 1-2%.

Enough of the so-called stimulus bill and TARP money is being siphoned off to the Democrat vote fixing machine to have everything in place for another Democrat landslide in 2010. They don’t have to be everywhere, just where it will affect the outcome of the Republican incumbents. Democrat incumbents, even those who are 150% proven crooks, even if they are serving time, even if they cry “Allahu Akbar” from the floor of the House of Representatives, will be reelected, some by very large majorities (including Chris Dodd).

Your vote, my vote, the votes of my children when they come of age, are just as effective as the votes of the Iraqis under Saddam Hussein, or the votes of the “people” under Soviet communism.

I pray that I am wrong, but I prepare as if I am right. I would suggest that the rest of you do likewise.

"2010 will be a watershed year for Republicans, IF and ONLY IF, they are willing to speak the truth to the lies of the democrats and the Fauxbama administration,"

We can win 2010 by doing one simple thing. Every Republican get out there and do exactly like Cheney is doing by repeatedly driving home a few simple messages: Obama has destroyed national security, Obama has bankrupt this nation with $2 trillion dollar deficits, Democrats are corrupt and most under investigation, Obama will expire the 2003 tax cuts and low income and middle income will get hit with higher federal income tax rates resulting in less take home pay.

Keep driving that home non-stop all the way to 2010. Beat it into the American public's head over and over and over.

The GOP has no Party platform that I can see.

There is no solid GOP leadership, no answer to the DNC, no press campaign to refute the DNC or ZERO.

Then GOP is not now capable of forming a solid 2010 campaign to tilt congress to something like providing a speedbump to the destruction of America.

We are spending to oblivion and acting with outright insanity in the self destructive actions being taken. China is, as Beck has said, about the only country in the world acting rationally and positively for their future dominance.

Cautions:

1. This could be a screw up in Gallup's polling. An anomaly. Let's see if the trend holds or continues. You can bet Hussein and his lapdogs are watching this number, too.

2. Whether the number holds or not, let us not allow the Republican party to drift along into the "Democrats Lite" mode. Conservatives have a strong argument and history on their side. They do not have the media or a strong party record on their side. (By strong party record I mean the Republicans of 2002-2006 were spendthrifts. They were great on fighting terrorists, but spent WAY too much money on nonsense. And the Democrats took advantage in '06.) We have to be sure conservatives promise to govern conservatively and then FOLLOW THROUGH!

There’s a Palin effect no doubt. The ethic complaints are evaporating, Bristol joined the teen pregnancy prevention group, etc.

But truly it’s been a combination of a multitude of things:

The Tea Parties had a bigger impact than the msm wants to admit.

There’s a perception the GOP may become more traditionalist (Arlen Specter has left the Party....WhooRay!!!)

Limbaugh won the PR battle vs. the El presidente.

The economy is tanking now because of zer0’s policies not Bush’s.

Nancy Peloony’s still the speaker.

And by the way did we already mention we have Sarah Palin???

What is happening is the national leadership is becoming irrelevant which local GOP like Palin, Perry, Sanford, and others are really claiming the day. Also the fumbling by Obama and the Democrats is getting worse. Just wait till they try to strong arm more of their leftist agenda through. They my get it but it will be at a price.
