Posted on 05/19/2009 2:55:58 PM PDT by Lou Budvis
Over the weekend, President Obama named Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, a telegenic Republican moderate, as his pick for ambassador to China, removing one possible 2012 challenger from the fray. Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina, a straight-shooting right-winger I find it impossible to dislike, is loved by conservative activists, but not always by his fellow South Carolinians. Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has, for a variety of reasons, not all of them entirely fair, become a national punchline. My guess is that Republican primary voters wont bite, just as Iowa Democrats turned against Howard Dean at the last possible moment. Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota is lacking in star wattage. Because Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana is not insane, he's keeping his powder dry until 2016, and the same might even be true of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. As for Mike Huckabee, who has become a scourge of bailout capitalism, his failure to make headway outside of his evangelical base suggests that he's fundamentally a niche candidate.
The missing candidate, then, is Jeb Bush, a successful two-term governor of a big swing state with sterling conservative credentials, a record of appealing to Latino voters, and the raw brainpower and rhetorical skill to match Barack Obama.

More like it and that would fry the Rats in their own juce.
I’ll pass on dynasties.
Great a Bangladeshi RINO chiming in... BARF.
No more Bushes!
I could live with that combination.
Dick Cheney/John Bolton 2012!!
Cheney without the Bush is best.
No more Bushes.
No more Kennedys.
No more Clintons.
Or anyone else within their ‘circle of influence.’
Leave Mr. Cheney alone and let the man fly-fish and enjoy his grandkids. He’s MORE than earned it. :)
Sarah Palin of Alaska has, for a variety of reasons, not all of them entirely fair, become a national punchline.”
Only amongst the chattering classes and the hard left, and they won’t decide the nominee.
Salam is in for a little surprise...
BTW what part of the smearing of Palin does he consider "fair" and "deserved".
He who governs least governs best.
Cheney for Veep (for military/defense issues).
I haven’t seen anyone come out wanting to slash pork and corruption as much as Palin.
So Palin/Cheney, IMHO
Either he's too sick to be President (four heart attacks), or he's not. If he's the guy who sat out the last election and gave us Obama, he's not going to get another chance -- and he won't.
Sarah Palin is only a national punchline in the minds of mine numbed robots.
I like her and will continue to support her.
This is as likely as a meteor crashing into Pelosi’s car while she is hauling a car full of clowns.
I thought you were talking Liz Cheney. She kiscks liberal ass...
Jeb Bush is terrific. He did a great job in Florida and was very popular there. Jeb doesn't waffle on conservative principles like his brother and he can actually explain why conservative ideas are better than liberal. If only he had a different brother and last name, he'd be at the top of most lists.
If I see another Bush related to our former presidents, on the Republican ticket in my lifetime, I will change parties and never come back.
I'LL NEVER TRUST OBAMA!! He's a self serving ...........!!

We need a new face thats the opposite of 0. A war hero perhaps :-)
“I thought you were talking Liz Cheney. She kiscks liberal ass...”
She seems to be doing a good job of that lately. What do you make of this:
[snip]LIZ CHENEY, ROMNEY SENIOR FOREIGN POLICY ADVISER: Well, its great to be here. Thanks, John. I think that clearly, Gov. Romney, when you look across the whole range of issues and challenges our next president is going to have to face, is the one best suited to face those challenges. He has got a very clear record on issues like cutting taxes. Sen. McCain also voted against the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2003, for example, in addition to the list you mentioned before.....As I looked at the candidates, it became clear to me, absolutely that Gov. Romney was the man who would best lead this country. Jan. 29, 2008
There you go!!!
“No more Bushes!”
Good grief, ‘conservatives’ are acting like wives who get beaten, forget in a week and crawl back for more.
I always liked Jeb better than W and I think it’s unfortunate that he’ll probably never get his chance, but W has made the name too radioactive.
A Palin / (Liz or Dick) Cheney ticket, however, would cause such hysteria I almost want to see it happen.
“Sterling coservative credentials”? I wonder what Salam has in his hookah!
THAT would be killer. I love ‘em both.
Continuing effort to steer the party away from Palin, whom the left fears most of all.
They fear her b/c she doesn’t fear them, i.e. blasting ND’s invite to 0bama.
Please, for the love of God, no more Bushes!
This column was so dumb, I couldn’t let it go.
There are conservatives who don’t get it. Reihan is one of them.
I love both of them but don’t give them much a chance. Glen Beck had Bolton on today and he was great as always.
Exactly. The question will be, how many of the non-thinking, able-to-be-influenced mush-heads on our side will allow the vermin in the MSM to convince them Palin can’t win? Hell, if they would have run her out there a couple months earlier this past election, that stiff McCain would have beaten the commie.
Yeah obambi is such an improvement.
You can bet your last dollar that I will not vote for such a ticket.
I don’t get it...except the stubborn Pubs are always ready to give it to the “next guy in line” and that is Romney, unfortunately...why she would go in with him, I don’t get, though...he sure ain’t her old man’s type of man...
I can't think of anything the MSM hates worse except for President Bush who went after the terrorists.
“You can bet your last dollar that I will not vote for such a ticket.”
By then, that’s all I’ll have...my last dollar...and CHANGE...
Reihan Salam has written various Sanford love notes, so his comments re Gov. Palin no surprise.
Thank you for your comment Rev. Jackson.
He** no, I won’t go! Well, you get the idea. I will not vote for another Bush, Cheney I could vote for, Bush, NO.
Thanks. That’s better.
You might be entirely correct.
bush was awesome.
I would definitely take him again.
His critic have greatly encouraged our nations enemies.
No Thanks! Two were quite enough, a bit too much. Jeb may be the best of the three, but the Bush time is over.
Sorry, I don't vote for miserable failures, regardless of what letters follow their names.
Ah, the Party Firster speaks.
