Hitler's Shoes Far Too Big for 'Sun God'
Asian Tribune ^ | 20 May 2009 | Janaka Perera

At different times Velupillai Prabhakaran’s admirers made absurd attempts to compare VP with George Washington, Mao Ze Dong and other great historical leaders. Many of his enemies however were calling this despicable gangster him another Hitler. But by doing so they gave this cowardly criminal undue recognition – even though in a negative sense.

But VP is far more conceited than the Nazi dictator ever was. While the latter merely called himself the `Fuehrer’ (Leader), Prabhakaran has become the self-styled ‘Sooriyathevan’ (Sun God).

So the despot who is closest to Velupillai P is not Hitler or any other dictator but Cambodia’s Polpot. ... But the latter was the weaker of the two since the Cambodian maniac had no overseas network unlike VP’s gang to extort money and do overseas propaganda.

Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge never turned into a global mafia. But Prabhakaran’s LTTE did and it is going to be the next headache not only to Sri Lanka but to rest of the world unless the pro-Tiger Tamil Diaspora is effectively and firmly dealt with.

This is an editorial comment on the late terrorist-guerilla leader of the Tamil Tigers. Interesting is the insight that overseas Tamils (such as those in Canada) were the most enthusiastic backers of Prabhakaran. They were relatively comfortable, and could afford to indulge fantasies of revolutionary romanticism. Reminds me of Irish-Americans who foolishly idolize the IRA. The article gives interesting parallels and contrasts of Prabhakaran with Hitler, which are from an Asian viewpoint, and probably not agreeable to most Westerners who have a thorough knowledge of WWII history.

The Tamil Tigers are now saying that he is still alive. I hope the government can come up with his corpse to prove it is a lie.

Check this: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124271160409133711.html#video%3DFF0F9B4B-2748-4C0E-8E0E-30FCBD543E90%26articleTabs%3Dvideo

It includes video footing showing the body of Prabhakaran, which looks convincing. They also show his dog tags, labeled 0:01.

I think that he is dead, most definitely. But perhaps there will be a myth about his survival, as there was for Hitler. Perhaps people will report seeing him walking around, or having tea at a cafe in Argentina.

Thanks. I wouldn’t know what he looks like, but it did seem odd that they didn’t show his face full on, but at most a slanted view from below the chin. Were they avoiding something, or was it just a bit amateurish?

I think that was his son there, whose face had its right half blown off or something. That’s what the cameras were trying to avoid showing.

Or rearming and reorganizing the LTTE for a guerrilla war against SL, although he’s dead now.
