Study: Millennials Really Love Their Big Government
The Atlantic ^

Posted on 05/20/2009 7:09:45 AM PDT by mc6809e

A study from the Center for American Progress polls the Millennial generation and finds that they aren't afraid of big government, not even a little. This is a bit surprising, because one thing I always heard about today's twentysomethings is that we're libertarian-lite: culturally liberal but too anti-authority to love a big government. Well, nevermind, I guess.

As Matt Yglesias points out, today's youth are tilting left on all sorts of economic questions, from more government investment in education and infrastructure (80% agree) to leading the world's eco-revolution (73% on board). And on the meta-questions about government's role in American lives, we really are all socialists now:

Some in the GOP were considering calling the Democratic Party the Democratic Socialist Party.

In light of this study, I'd say the result of such a move would be to create more Democrats.

Call them Fascists. It’s what they are, by definition.

The generation that wants ‘free’ stuff.

Free health care

Free child care

Free education

Free cars too, after all, how else to get to their gummint job.

Awesome. Start taxing them at 45%. Every dime. Then see how they feel. :)

Don’t worry. They will be taxed to a fair thee well. In 1950 there were 16 workers to every retiree; today there are 3.3; and by 2030 there will be two.

Right. This mindset is courtesy of the school system brainwashing.

Wait until they start getting taxed at the higher tax brackets and have to pay for taking care of all the old people in the country.

We’ll see how big government they are then.

It’s the schools.

We let the left take over the public schools. We decided it wasn’t important, and we’d take care of our own, (private schools, home schooling).

Our mistakes are being revealed.

Formerly Catholic schools now sports teams and house of abortion worship like Notre Dame are equallly clueless. Many kids just obsess about Starbux, ipods & iPhones and Facebook. Hopefully when mommy and daddy can no longer afford to indulge these brats they may wake up.

This, my friends, is why America can’t survive. We have an entire generation that is unaware of the principles of democracy.

They can have the society they want. There’s no way to stop it; they’ve been brainwashed to idiocy and aren’t capable of rational, critical or analytical thinking skills. They only know what they “feel” in their brains of mush.

Screw them; let the country burn down around them. Let’s see how they “feel” then. Maybe the strong will survive to re-build from the ashes. I really see no alternative because talking to them isn’t going to do any good.

The Lefties got the schools. The rest was just a matter of time.

Wrong. They love Democracy. They can't wait to vote for the creation of a socialist utopia.

Democracy isn't freedom. Democracy is control by the biggest gang. And the biggest gang wants big government.

Liberals do not want to have a reasonable discussion regarding this societal shift, not even the 50 year old males. Believe me, I tried last night.

"Millennials Really Love Their Big Government"

This is the part of previous elections where the GOP "blew it".

The 18-34 yr. old crowd is/has moved to the left of center. The GOP either didn't see it, or refused to pivot accordingly ==> politically tone deaf.

There is an alternative - state sovereignty.

The citizens of a sovereign state can insulate themselves from the socialism of the nation as a whole by refusing to contribute to the socialist pot and refusing to accept the handouts from this pot.

Today’s kids are woefully uninformed about how government works. They have never analyzed our system of checks and balances, they no nothing about our founding other than that Washington and Jefferson owned slaves, and they have never even considered how an out-of-control government could be detrimental to their lives.

They live in blissful ignorance. THANK YOU PUBLIC SCHOOLS! You have attained your goal of dumbing down America to the point where our freedoms are in dire jeopardy and socialism and humanism can now thrive.

The self appointed elitists of the world have a real shot at total control. To quote Han Solo, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”

The elitists have a real shot at total civil war when they try for total control.

When you live in your parents’ basement playing Wii and texting friends all day long, “BIG government” really doesn’t show up on your radar. All this will shake out when the “millennials” wake up someday and find mom and dad are no longer around to care for them.
