Editorial: You did it! Uh, so what now?
Sacramento Bee ^ | 5/20/9 | Editor

Good morning, California voters. Do you feel better, now that you've gotten that out of your system?

You wanted to show the state's politicians just how mad you are at them. And you did. Boy, did you ever.

Proposition 1A with its taxes and its spending limit? Too much of one and not enough of the other, you said (or was it the other way around), and voted it down. Never mind that the taxes go into efffect anyway. You showed 'em.

Proposition 1B? That was a tougher call.

Proposition 1C? No way. You like the lottery just like it is. And all they were going to do with that extra $5 billion was spend it.

Propositions 1D and 1E? Forget it. You had already voted to put money into preschool and mental health programs. You're not taking it out now.

And 1F? Heck, yeah! Let's not pay our legislators if they can't pass a budget on time. So what if it likely won't have any effect, or that this year they actually passed a budget months earlier than they needed to? That's not the point.

The point is that you're sick and tired of all this political mumbo-jumbo. So you showed those politicians who's in charge. You. You're now officially in charge – of a state that will be something like $25 billion in the hole for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

So, now that you've put those irksome politicians in their place, maybe it's time to think about this: Since you're in charge, exactly what do you intend

...That sounds a lot like work, you say? Sorry, no whining allowed. You asked for this job. Now you've got it, so get on it. Oh, and remember. The entire nation is watching to see how you do now that you're in charge.

As Rush said on his show today, Californians (the sane ones) spoke their minds years ago when they voted for Prop 187. Once implemented, it would’ve had the dual benefit of dissuading illegals AND saving more than $10B annually. But, of course, it was stopped by a libtard judge.

With 330,000 employees, I think 33,000 are dead weight. Assume burdened cost of $100,000 per employee. There is 33,000,000,000 in annual savings. just do it. Stop spending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ever worked for the govt? 50% is more like it. Lose 165,000 of the lazy looting layabouts.

I'm all for that. The ballot box has been shot to pieces already anyway, what with ACORN, illegals and cemetery residents voting, etc.

How odd that they say this as if it were a "bad thing" ... Seems like "We the People" was the idea from day one.

If there are to be riots, so be it.

I am old enough to have figured out that nothing really gets settled unless there is some violence, physical or economic, involved.

What is going on now is that president Zero and his band of gay blades are trying to fool productive Americans and Deadbeat-Americans alike that economic violence will not touch them.

The sooner the better, because this slow, horrible slide to Zimbabwe status is driving productive Americans nuts. There are many of us just waiting and watching.

Dear Bee:

Here's what now:

1. Eliminate all services to illegals except any emergency care needed to get them back to their country. 3. Cut pay for all state employees making over 3,000 a month.

4. Reduce or eliminate the state capital gain tax.

5. Reduce the state income tax by 2%.

6. Reduce administrative positions in school districts.

7. Build 20 nuclear power plants in the next 20 years.

8. Eliminate legislative staff positions like the elevator operators in the capitol building.

9. Cut state and local pensions back to the level of 1998.

10. Prohibit public employee unions from contributing to those with whom they negotiate their contracts and who approve their contracts.

End of phase one.

and then for phase two:

Cal spends 9,000 a year per school student. I propose we give vouchers in ten school districts for $7,000 per student. A classroom of 25 would cost $175,000 instead of $225,000. They could easily pay the teacher half of that and use the rest for admin, equipment, supplies etc.

There are 6.3 million students in Cal. If you do the entire system, you save $12 bill a year and introduce competition into the education system.

Californians want to see two basic things from Sacramento:

1. Elected representatives doing their jobs instead of passing the tough decisions onto the voters via ballot propositions, and

2. Actual spending reductions or restoration of the budget to the levels of 5 or 10 years ago.

Calling for spending cuts is not enough in a state where the definition of a "spending cut" is a reduction in the rate of growth of the line item.

There’s a family of illegals in my hometown with 8 kids enrolled in the school system. That can’t be too kind to the tax-payers over the years.

What now Sac-O- Bee? How about cutting state salaries and pensions by 10% accross the board?
Then, we can go after the illegals.

The Sac Bee has re-written and scubbed the editorial headline, content, and comments section and is engaged in damage control.

The original title: Editorial: You did it! Uh, so what now? has been watered down and changed now to read: Editorial: Time for reform - not for blame

Not only that, they have tried to tone down their condescending rhetoric in that hissy fit of an editorial. Look at the original, and then the change this morning after a fire storm of protest from their readers:

ORIGINAL:

CLEAN UP IN AISLE 9

Good morning, members of the California Legislature. Good morning, Governor. Feeling bruised and abused this morning? Well, you can't say you didn't see it coming. The polls have been saying for weeks that voters were going to do just what they did on Tuesday: Conclusively reject your slate on the ballot, Propositions 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E. Today, on the morning after voters kicked around your best effort at fixing the state budget as if it were a deflated soccer ball, you face a decision. You can blame the voters for reacting with uninformed and misplaced anger.
