CHICAGO (AP) - A spokeswoman says a son of the late Robert F. Kennedy is seriously considering a run for the U.S. Senate seat once held by President Barack Obama.
Spokeswoman Kasey Madden didn't say Wednesday when Chicago businessman Chris Kennedy would make an announcement.
The seat Kennedy is interested in is now held by Sen. Roland Burris, who was appointed by ousted former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Seems like all the Kennedy’s know how to do is drink and run for office.
No more Kennedys, no more Clintons and no more Bushs.
Will we NEVER be free of this awful family?
Is the Kennedy Clan running out of dough? Crooked politics is the easiest way to raise a lot of money fast.
He’s the black one, right?
No, no. Not correct. They know how to drink, run for office and spend OUR money.
There you go!
Well the Democrats have to do something. Burris is a disaster waiting to happen, but running someone against him in the primary will alienate a significant percentage of the black base. A Kennedy might be a big enough draw to overcome that. Chris Kennedy’s lived in the area for 20 years or so, runs the Merchanise Mart for the family business, and can escape any carpetbagger labels.
Another carpetbagging Kennedy? What state does he live in?
Please enough with this Chicago culture of corruption thing...
He's lived in Illinois for about 20 years.
I heard on the radio that he was encouraged to run by Bill Daley, which means he must be Mayor Daley’s candidate. Which means he’ll be the next Senator from Illinois. And who knows — maybe he’ll run for president in ‘16?
I like Illinois, but it really is a loathesome place politically.
Can’t Skipper a Boat
Yet they “know” what’s best for us.
I hate that f-—ing family with every fiber of my being.
Can’t drink either.
hot? ROTFLMAO! clownish for sure...he has a tell-tale red nose of teddy fame
I can’t think of another Family that has caused more harm to the US than the Kennedys. Liberals love them, yet they represent everything liberals claim to hate:
using power and influence to cover up corruption
and they are all white!!
Beaver for Senate!
I tell you we are doomed if this gets out of that area. Anybody know how many Joseph Kennedy descendants there are now? Is there any stopping them if they spill out over the fruited plain? How awful, just imagine voting a Kennedy for Secretary of Waste Disposal, perish the thought!
What’s with the horse teeth?
I thought Schakowsky was talking about running? Get a three or four way primary going and Burris will back into the nomination - just like Mosley-Braun did in ‘92.
kennedy bashing thread with potential over here.
But does he have his cousin Caroline's elocution skills?
which cousin was the rapist?
Willie Kennedy Smith was accused of rape.
Michael Skakel was the one who killed a girl.
Behold - Moss Kennedy Isley Compound - A collection of scum and villainy you will not find anywhere else.
Except maybe Chicago.
Where did you find that nice picture of Maria Shriver?
There, that's fixed.
“What is it with Kennedys and teeth, anyway?”
And the hair...don’t forget the hair...
But, I thought that was a “black” senate seat. Are we going to stand for this obviously pigment challenged individual daring to run for this seat?
Can’t Treat Women Decently
Is that you Eddie Haskell? You owe the Beav a huge apology.
Isn’t there some kind of “cure” for “acute Kennedy?”
America needs the antidote fast.
Truly amazing how the scions of a family riddled with alchohol abusers, self-serving egotists, affluent buffoons, and at least one philandering manslaughter (womanslaughter) practitioner, manage to continually get elected to higher office.
oh, yeah..forgot about the killer cousin.
at least here in NY we passed on a kennedy.....let’s see what illinois does.
I believe she was hoping to get appointed before Burris got it, and she’s been pretty open about her interest ever since. The state treasurer, Giannoulias, is running too.
The scenario you’ve given sure could happen. Outside of the GOP taking the seat, which I’m not counting on, I could live with Burris. He’s not the best, but he’s far from being the worst we’ve ever elected. Plus, he’s not likely to be around for the next 30 years.
A prediction from the suburbs:
D-Primary winner? Giannoulias.
R-Primary winner? Some ridiculous RINO that obeys Little Dick Daley’s every command.
I have a feeling this guy might get caught up in a scandal in the next year, year and a half....
oh, do tell...
I wouldn’t be surprised. Who besides Kirk is likely to run? I read the other day that some doctor I hadn’t heard of was thiking about it.
Well it’s nothing concrete, but his business does business with politicians that are under the watchful eye of the FBI...
he is rather unfortunate looking isn’t he?
That too....i’m sick of both,to be honest with you.
Seriously, the Kennedy's have destroyed Massachusetts thoroughly, must they infest other states as well? Rhode Island, New York, Maryland, Illinois...look out there might be a couple of them hiding out in California next!
It's cute how all these Kennedy's live in zillion dollar gated communities and none of them have any actual jobs. My favorite is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. being an "environmental lawyer". This guy's "career" is owning the merchandise mart in Chicago. Oh, and his political "experience" consists of working on Uncle Ted's failed 1980 presidential bid. I don't care if he's "lived" among us little people for 20 years, Kennedy is no Illinoisan, he's an imported Massachusetts socialist.
The sad thing is the RINO-infested Illinois GOP seems hell bent on recruiting ultra-liberal "Republican" Congressman Mark Kirk as their nominee. That guy is so bad he makes Steve Poizer look good. Kirk actually spent the last election gloating how Sierra Club rated him "better than Obama" on envirowacko issues.
Cletus D. Yokel is probably right though, if I had to place my bets today on what I THINK will be the outcome of the Senate primaries (not what I hope will happen), Illinois A.G. Lisa Madigan will be the RAT nominee if she chooses to run. If not, Giannoulias is the likely RAT nominee. Kirk is the likely Republican nominee unless we can get a good conservative candidate in there to stop him (thank the Sauerberg backers who were delusional that their RINO would "beat Durbin", and thus sent a message to the ILGOP that it's acceptable to shove more RINOs down our throat)
