Former congressman to run for Ohio governor Posted: 06:11 PM ET
From CNN's Mark Preston and John King
WASHINGTON (CNN) Former Rep. John Kasich plans to announce next month that he will run for governor of Ohio, two Republican sources tell CNN.
Kasich has already filed paperwork with the state that allows him to raise money, established a Web site and posted a YouTube video encouraging supporters to join him at a June 1 event in his hometown for a "very special announcement." Kasich has not yet officially announced his plans to challenge Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland in 2010.

If I lived there, I’d vote for him.
Ohio ping
An honest Ohio governor? Will wonders never cease?
I’ve always thought of Kasich as being a good guy, but maybe a bit squishy on some subjects. I don’t think I know enough about him to make a rock-solid statement of support or criticism. Any Freepers have some solid opinions about him?
I like Kasich.
He was one of Dick Armey’s lieutenants back in the 90’s....
I like him, too, but why did he resign from Congress? Is there something that the ‘Rats can use against him? I vaguely remember reading that he was a good buddy of Gary Condit, and that there was a lot of carousing around.
Kasich has not yet officially announced his plans to challenge Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland in 2010.
Is Kasich getting the horse ahead of the wagon? Doesn’t he have a primary to win first before being able to do as he says?
Me too! He was part of the Republican revolution in the '90's. He's fiscally conservative and has a good head on his shoulders. Great demeanor.
He’s too soft for me, but a RINO (boy are those IDIOTS disgusting) is 1,000,000,0000 times better than a marxist/progressive/socialist/control-freak rat commie ANY day.
Hooray John Kasich!
It was my understanding that he made a campaign promise not to make a career as being a congressman. I think he just kept his promise and did not run for additional terms. He’s an honest guy.
Outstanding! At last, someone to vote FOR.

John even seems to have an up right moral understanding of how things oughta work.
The primary will not be a problem for Kasich. The field will be cleared for him.
Kasich was a budget hawk while he was an Ohio legislator and always prepared his own state budget.
You will also recall his part in forcing Clinton to balance the budget.
Ohio needs a leader, someone unlike the paper-pushing Ted Strickland, and I think Kasich has a real shot. He is young and energetic compared to Strickland, which should help.
I received this from Kasich today:
Dear Supporter,
As friends and allies I want you to be involved and aware of my plans, and I hope you can join me in the early evening of Monday, June 1st for a special announcement regarding my candidacy for elected office in Ohio. We are holding this outdoor event at the Everal Barn in my hometown of Westerville.
As you may know, earlier this month, I filed paperwork to designate a treasurer and form a campaign committee for the office of governor. At this event on June 1 I will formally announce my intentions, and it would mean a great deal to me personally if you were there.
If you can join us, please visit www.KasichforOhio.com to print your tickets and get all the details you need.
Thank you,
John

Well I do live here and I am!
If John Kasich runs for Gov. of Ohio he’s got my vote!
John Kasich’s a good man. An honest conservative and he’d have my vote for any office he wanted to run for.
How is he too soft for you?
He must not be too bad, we went 11 posts before he was called a RINO.
I voted for him for President in the 2000 primary. Wish I lived in Ohio, just to vote for him. I probably will contribute to his campaign.
I live in Ohio . If he runs, I’ll work for him.
Good for Kasich. I’ll pray for him, because he’s going to get trashed by the “news media” from here on out.
He got married and shortly thereafter, he and his wife had twins.
I’ve always liked him. As far as I know, he has a business/economics background than law. We need a LOT more business people in D.C. and a LOT less lawyers (no offense to Freeper lawyers).
I dont know why this great man has not risen to higher levels already.
I thought that was Joe Scarborough.
I think Kasich lives in one of the Columbus suburbs, so I’ll probably work for his campaign as well. There was another good conservative candidate (Seth Morgan) who got elected to the Statehouse in November, so I hope this is an indicator of a return to conservatism in the state. John Kasich spoke at the Columbus Tea Party, IIRC, and was very well-received there (except by the anarcho-libertarians who tried to shout down anyone who had held public office).
I should not have used the word RINO, because I have no indication that it applies to Kasich. Watching him on FOX he appears to be too nice (thus the term soft) when making his points to the opposition or pointing out their constant hypocrisy. I would vote for Kasich (and a RINO) over any ‘rat. I wish him well.
John Kasich is exactly what the Ohio Republican Party needs to recover from the Taft Regime.
It’s a shame that Taft’s taxation and misrule took down some good Republicans. John can help rebuild the Party, and he can take down Strickland.
Best,
Chris
I think he wasn’t married the entire time he was in Congress. He and his wife had twins and he didn’t run again...probably to make more $$$$.
He didn't resign. His term expired and he didn't run for re-election. This was after his bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2000, and he'd been in office since 1982. So he went and worked private sector for a while, did his gigs on Fox News, and left his seat to his protege Pat Tiberi.
I’m an Ohioan, and have followed Kasich. He’s a true conservative- not a RINO at all.
He has class and behaves like a gentleman, but I would not characterize him as soft at all.
He's been soft on the Second Amendment in the past.
He’s from The Rocks of Pittsburgh originally....McKeesRocks!!!!
I quess I'm looking for too much...like an articulate street fighter to verbally lambast the 'rats. I have seen John get worked up on occasion on FOX, but maybe it's the overall demeanor or the haircut...I don't know...just speculating. I would welcome John Kasich any day over our Michigan governor, Jenny Grantheft. Thanks for your closer-to-the-politician observation.
Maybe he’ll run for the presidency.
He seems to be a good man.
Played a big part for the balanced budget during the Klinton era (error).
I wish that were true, but sadly it isn't. John Kasich is a traitor to our Second Amendment freedoms. He was almost single handedly responsible for the assault weapons ban because of his behind-the-scenes betrayal of his Republican colleges. He also voted for the Brady law.
The article below explains how the Republicans had successfully blocked the Assault Weapons Ban until Kasich negotiated a sellout with Leon Panetta. I once thought Kasich had presidential potential, but now I know that traitor is nothing but a pathetic fraud.
David Broder's Washington Post article describing the Kasich's betrayal
You forgot to call him a RINO. (In the Obama era on FR, RINO is defined as “Any Republican who ever did anything I don’t like or held a position contrary to mine on any issue.”)
So do I. I live in Ohio and at this point anything is better than what the state has now.
He lives in Westerville. The email I got said to go here:
http://www.kasichforohio.com/site/c.mvIXIfN0JyE/b.5119545/k.BE6A/Home.htm
to attend the announment in Westerville.
It will be nice to have someone to vote for in Ohio rather than just vote against the Rats.
/bingo
This is my big issue. I think we need to fight these hucksters head-on, but Kasich buys into that garbage.
Other than that, I must say, I've always like him.
Hank
Thank you for the reminder! John Kasich is a traitorous, back-stabbing, sell out of a for his complete betrayal of our Second Amendment freedoms.
wahooo! now I got a vote to cast gladly, instead of biting my tongue and closing my eyes and saying a prayer, and hoping the rino I vote for will change.I like good news, and this guy is a winner! strickland is an idiot. The tide seems to be slowly turning anyway,,,2010 may turn out all right after all.
