Paramour of Kennedy Is Writing a Book (JFK's intern)
NY Times ^ | 5/22/2009 | MOTOKO RICH

Mimi Beardsley Alford, a retired New York church administrator who had an affair with John F. Kennedy while she was an intern in the White House, is breaking a silence of more than 40 years to tell her story in a memoir to be published by Random House.

Ms. Alford’s secret was initially divulged six years ago when a biography of Kennedy was published with portions from a 1964 oral history that described the president’s 18-month sexual affair with a young intern named Mimi Beardsley. The Daily News tracked her down and discovered that she was Marion Fahnestock, who was divorced, working for the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church and living in Manhattan. At the time, she gave a short statement confirming that she was “involved in a sexual relationship” with Kennedy from June 1962 to November 1963.

Ms. Alford, 66, who in the years since the disclosure had married Richard Alford, a former sports marketing executive, has not spoken about her affair since the statement. Before that, she had not even told her parents or her children. Now she is working on a memoir, to be titled “Once Upon a Secret,” about the consequences of hiding such an explosive past for so long.

He took steroids for his Addison’s Disease. I think an increased sex drive is one of the side effects.

I guess her mother and father’s strict upbringing of warnings against sleeping with married men didn’t sink into to well!

How did you make the Miss Porter's connection?

Since the girl was 19, I thought she might have been at Sweetbriar or Vassar when recruited.

I see the connection the NYTimes article identified Miss Porter's and The Age said it was the same "college."

Since The Age is an Australian paper, I can only speculate that they aren't familiar with New England prep schools.

Mrs Kennedy was too busy to see her, but “apparently the president did meet her on this visit”, Mrs Gamarekian said. “He had more time than Mrs Kennedy.”

Mrs Kennedy was kept busy polishing that Camelot smokescreen while JFK did the deeds that kept her busy.

Jackie thought it was a "power mower" that Jack was riding every weekend.

She looks like Jackie. Given the timeframe, no wonder Marilyn Monroe was PO’ed at Jack especially when she left her film, flew to NY, wore that tightfitting sequined dress and say “Happy Birthday, Mr. President!” And Bobby stepped in and took off where Jack left off with Marilyn. Bobby was the consolation prize. The question is: whose underwear did Jackie find in the couch? Mimi’s, Marilyn’s, Judi’s (Exner) or Jackie’s? Remember the statement from Jack to the Brits:

“Once he (Jack) startled two proper Britons, Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and Foreign Minister R.A.B. Butler, during a 1962 conference in Nassau by casually confiding that if he went too long without a woman, he suffered severe headaches.”

A gem indeed. So often the quips here are simply untoppable.

When will we read that Hussein has the same problem?

Obama would probably use male interns.

"She was even spotted crouching in his limousine during the president's 1962 summit with Harold Macmillan in the Bahamas, where the two leaders discussed British use of the Polaris nuclear missile."

Harry was a randy bird, wasn't he ?

See that is the greatness of the Kennedy's at work - they had a sweeping sense of history.

They upheld American greatness by incorporating both the Eastern concept of a "harem" with the European monarchy idea of "droit du seigneur" - the ability of the king to sleep with whomever he wanted.

Sounds like our presi_ent, who was an editor and can't write.

As they say, good enough for government work.
