BEIJING – Chen Fuchao, a man heavily in debt, had been contemplating suicide on a bridge in southern China for hours when a passer-by came up, shook his hand — and pushed him off the ledge.
Chen fell 26 feet (8 meters) onto a partially inflated emergency air cushion laid out by authorities and survived, suffering spine and elbow injuries, the official Xinhua News Agency said Saturday.
The passer-by, 66-year-old Lai Jiansheng, had been fed up with what he called Chen's "selfish activity," Xinhua said. Traffic around the Haizhu bridge in the city of Guangzhou had been backed up for five hours and police had cordoned off the area.
"I pushed him off because jumpers like Chen are very selfish. Their action violates a lot of public interest," Lai was quoted as saying by Xinhua. "They do not really dare to kill themselves. Instead, they just want to raise the relevant government authorities' attention to their appeals."

How do you know the intent of the pusher? He may have seen that there was safety cushion and thought that the jumper would not be hurt. Since you are an intent reader, are you one of those people that like the idea of charging people with hate crimes?
"Hey, dude, nice to meet you. Before you jump, could I take a photo with you and get an autograph for each of my kids? Oh, and one for my wife and one for my girlfriend?"
You know, if the guy let this guy get that close to him and shook his hand, the guy could’ve just yanked him down onto the ground and ended it that way too.
There you go, thinking outside the box and ruining it for the rest of us who really liked the jumper scene from Lethal Weapon 1.
They should give the pusher an award.

No, he starts talking to the jumper like he wants to jump too, and that he’s actually going to take him (the wouldbe jumper) along with him. Then they both wind up jumping. Mel’s cop character kind of has a deathwish though.
I am not defending his intent. I am merely saying that you can not know his intent. I can not defend his intent because I have no more knowledge of his intent than you do. I do know that there were circumstances that could have made his intent much more benign than intent to kill.
Okay, I know this is serious, but my twisted mind can’t help but think of the movie Better Off Dead:
