Rudy Giuliani Stands Up To Crazed Attacker On Hamptons Stroll

Rudy and Judi Giuliani were accosted today in the Hamptons by an angry man who threatened to "punch out" the former mayor, witnesses told The Post.

Patrons sitting outside The Golden Pear bakery in downtown Bridgehampton around 2 p.m. said a "slim, well-dressed man in his fifties" came charging out of nowhere and began screaming at the happy couple as they left a nearby art fair.

"I'm gonna punch your lights out," the wacko repeatedly yelled at Giuliani, witnesses said. Rudy and Judi appeared startled and then agitated by the man's aggressive behavior.

At one point the man started jabbing the former mayor in the chest, said Mark Borghi, owner of an art gallery on Bridgehampton's Main Street.

"Alright, do it then!" Borghi heard the Brooklyn native Giuliani yell to his tormentor.

Good on Giuliani! The story says:

> The man was eventually cuffed and taken away, but not before he inexplicably rushed inside a coffee shop to empty his pockets of all their contents, said Golden Pear employee Martin Schwenk.

Inexplicably? How’s this for an explanation: his pockets contained something he didn’t want the cops to find. Methamphetamine? Crack? Two excellent guesses, judging from his behavior. Bags I it’s one or the other of those.

This is a classic case of a man with strong character standing up to a bully that is a man of no character.

The idea of building up your confidence by destroying the confidence of someone else is reprehensible...

I don't always agree with your politics Rudi... but you did good here.

Rudi hasn’t exactly been my cup of tea over the years, but this angers me. He and his wife did not deserve to be treated like this.

I respect Rudi’s efforts after 09/11.

I wish some stout guy would have punched this guy’s lights out. Once the guy touched Giuliani, he was fair game.

I don't know anything about this man, but I'd bet a dollar that he's a leftist and a Bush Derangement Syndrome sufferer. These twerps keep getting bolder and bolder since the last election, following the Annointed One's commandment to get confrontational with people with whom they disagree, to 'get in their faces.' I keep seeing it over and over in my own life, and I've lost friends over this crap. This story just tops it all so far.

We've got to take our country back from these reprobates, and fast!

Rudi hasn’t exactly been my cup of tea over the years,

The way I thought of it during the primary was that if Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson went up to the hunting lodge, that Giuliani and McCain would be welcome regardless of politics and that there was only one major candidate that none of them would want to join them on a "guys" weekend.

I like Rudy, but his record is not entirely clean. When he was a prosecutor, he abused his power, in my opinion, by notifying the media ahead of time to pre-arranged public perp-walks of Wall Street defendants who were not flight risks, and would have surrendered peacefully if given the chance. Later, the charges against many of these defendants were thrown out by the trail or appeals court.

But people are complex. He conducted himself admirably throughout most of his career, and certainly he did so on 9/11.

From the account, I’d say your typical NYC girl scout could handle the guy, never mind a NYC mayor. The “assailant” was lucky to get his pockets empty before Judi stapled them shut.

Legally, once someone gets in your face they’re fair game to get their lights punched out. Getting in someone’s face = the tort and crime of assault = creating in another the reasonable apprehension of immediate bodily harm, making it justified to defend yourself. You don’t have wait until someone makes physical contact to fight back.

Rudy should have punched the attacker’s lights out while he was threatening Rudi and his wife. No one has to take that kind of assinine abuse from anyone!

For the most part, I like Rudy too. At least he was mayor of a major city which is more than the 0 can say in terms of accomplishments.
