Atheists Roll Out Ad Campaign ( "In the Beginning, Man Created God." )
Chicago Tribune ^ | May 22, 2009 | staff

Posted on 05/24/2009 5:59:09 AM PDT by kellynla

This provocative twist on the Bible’s opening line was plastered on the side of 25 Chicago buses this week as part of an advertising crusade by the Indiana Atheist Bus Campaign.

The ads have been cruising between downtown and the city’s North and South sides, including the No. 56 Milwaukee route, since the beginning of the week and will run through June.

"The intent of the campaign is to stimulate discussion of religion and its place in our society," said Charlie Sitzes, a spokesman for the Indiana group who with help from the American Humanist Association has collected more than $10,000 in private donations to buy the ad space in Indiana and Illinois.

The group brought its message to Chicago after a similar campaign in Indiana – to post the slogan "You can be good without God" – was rejected by transit authorities in Bloomington and stalled by officials in South Bend, who didn’t want the ads posted in time for President Barack Obama’s speech at Notre Dame.

Indiana's chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has sued the Bloomington Public Transportation Corporation on the atheist group's behalf. Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan has denounced his own transit system, saying he does not condone government censorship.

"It would appear that where there is more opposition to the message that maybe that would be the place where we needed dialogue more," Sitzes said, maintaining that the slogan is a simple fact.

"All non-believers believe God is a creation of man," he said. "We used to have thousands of gods. Now we’re down to one. We’re getting closer to the true number."

Among the guidelines for determining if an advertisement can run on the CTA is a requirement that the ad be truthful and is "not directed at inciting imminent lawless action."

Would the transit system allow an ad declaring Jesus to be God? If it did and were sued would Kruzan defend it?

This isn’t about discussing God, this is about eliminating Godly discussion.

The Atheists think we don’t know what they are. We know EXACTLY what they are. Why attempt to assure us “you can be good without God”? If you’re good, then you don’t need to say it.

Seen the tactic before.
Liberals create “dialog” when pushing Marxism down our throats.
The CINO’s do it when they invite abortionists to give commencement speeches and get honorary degrees.

Same poison.

Yes, as my dad said, there are no atheists in foxholes.

And why the need for a ‘campaign’? If an atheist is what they are, just BE it. Why all of a sudden the need to ‘convert’ people?

Disagree? When did the ACLU ever defend a gun rights case?

The campaign is not intended to generate a discussion. It is intended to insult and defame the beliefs of others. It is intended to get people angry and when they react in their anger, the atheists will point to the angry reaction as proof that they were right.

...and I've never met one that worked on Christmas Day. Atheists reminds me of global warming boosters- flying their personal jets around the world to tell us we're wasteful. No hypocrisy is too great for intolerant busybodies.

These people are frightened and alone. Alone because they have no god. They want Christians as frightened and alone as they are.

There is no reason for anyone ho dosnt believe in God to try to destroy other’s faith except they want you as miserable as they are.

Once again, their action expresses not profound conviction based upon reasoning, but profound insecurity.

We are called for to tell the good news (the “gospel”) of the Bible because the God we believe in instructs us to.

They have no God, and therefore no Bible (except maybe “The Origin of Species”) and therefore no directive, except their own inner compulsion not to prove that God does not exist, but to disprove to believers that he does.

Atheists aren't afraid of being frightened and alone, they are far too arrogant to admit that even deep within their souls they don't possess.

Atheists hate the idea there is a God to whom they are ultimately accountable to rather than the little god they put om their tiny thrones in their hearts.

We need to complete the sentence for atheists: “In the beginning, man created god and god-based morality and a god-based society.”

And then we can add the obvious subsequent sentence to their agenda:

“Let us therefore throw off the shackles of god and all his influence. Let us live as though there were no god. Let us have either a totalitarian tyranny like every single atheist-based government that has ever existed, or else total anarchy.”

The Bible is right: atheists are the quintessential fools.

In exercising your Constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech, you have every right to offend them...politically correct or not.

Be sure to tell them they are amoral and we are sick of them claiming moral high ground after insulting us and stealing the parts of our moral code that they like.

How else would they know murder, theft, lying etc are wrong (or do they?)

How about naming some famous atheist leaders in history?

Well, actually, my daughter, the family atheist, does work religious holidays for co-workers. She likes to act smug, too. We continue to send Christmas blessings to her and ignore her “beliefs”. We do not allow her to stop our celebrations anymore. If she feels uncomfortable at the Christmas gathering, so be it.

I would like to see atheist refuse paid religious holiday time.

To correct myself...Refuse the pay when they don’t work the holiday as well as refuse the extra time when they work the holiday. Usually one gets time plus half when working a paid holiday.

I’ve noticed a simple truth about those who claim to be Atheist. When “they” have their backs against a wall or face a certain disaster, the words that fall from their lips is almost always: “Oh, God.” I pointed this out to someone who claimed to be Atheist right after they spoke those words and they them self were caught off balance by finding what I had said was so true!

These same signs are on our Seattle area buses. And with a huge percentage of non-church going people in the region, there has been barely a whisper of protest.
There are also many Satan worshipers and WICANS here as well. Just yesterday I was behind a girls car with a bumper sticker that said, “Give me that old time religion” which has a circled pentagram next to the words. Made me want to vomit.

Atheists tend to major in smugness and intellectual pride; and if you flub one or two minor things like they they reject out of hand anything else you have to say...

I often type athiest for atheist myself in my haste; that's why I noticed when you did it. ("Hey! I'm not the ONLY one!")

Corollary: Atheists are poor golfers.

This offends in so many ways...

In the beginning, Woman created God

In the beginning, Gays created God

In the beginning, Lesbians created God

In the beginning, pedophiles created God

In the beginning, democrats created God

In the beginning, socialists created God

And everyone knows that OBAMA is GOD
