Media still lying about the Swift Boat Veterans
The American Thinker ^ | May 25, 2009 | Scott Swett

Posted on 05/25/2009 2:07:35 AM PDT by Scanian

Five years ago, a group of Vietnam veterans came forward at the National Press Club in Washington to dispute the "war hero" stories that formed the basis of candidate John Kerry's presidential campaign, and to challenge the claims of rampant US war crimes Kerry had used to launch his political career 33 years earlier -- false accusations, they said, that helped to poison the reputations of a generation of American troops. The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth included Kerry's entire former chain of command from Vietnam and dozens of eyewitnesses to his actions there. Kerry, the veterans said, was not fit to be America's Commander-in-Chief

The Swift Vets intended to hold a single press conference and go home, thinking that Kerry would quickly be withdrawn as the nominee of his party. However, instead of reporting the veterans' charges accurately, the Democrat-dominated media either ignored or disparaged their testimony. In response, the Swift Vets planned and executed a remarkably effective end run to bypass the DNC media, presenting their case with the book Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry, the website SwiftVets.com (which I managed), a devastating TV ad campaign, and thousands of individual interviews, mostly on talk radio.

"One of John Kerry's key veteran supporters in 2004 was Wade Sanders, who helped to introduce the candidate at the Democratic National Convention and was mentioned as a candidate for Secretary of Defense. Sanders also acted as Kerry's lead attack dog against the Swift Vets, whom he repeatedly compared to Nazis.

Two weeks ago, Sanders was sentenced to 37 months in prison on child pornography charges. Rather than admit to wrongdoing, Sanders claimed that he had been doing "research." He blamed his obsessive interest in the subject on a flare-up of post-traumatic stress caused by -- you guessed it -- the Swift Vets."

Kerry and Murtha still have not, as they promised, released their records. What are they hiding?

What the Press, the Democrats and the Republicans all failed to see was that the Swifties had no party agendas. There were probably as many Democrat swifties as Replublcan swifties. It had nothing to do with party; it was 100% Swifties vs. Kerry on a personal level. Kerry had dragged our names through the mud, it was then time to clear the air of decades of lies and tell the truth the way it happened and not the way Kerry fabricated it.

The Swift Boat Vets success was stunning. Because it was aided by Talk Radio, this is one of the reason the Democrats want to kill Talk Radio. They don’t believe in our Constitution except when they can abuse it.

Thank GOD for the SWIFT BOATS VETERANS who SAVED us from KERRY!

And the leftist media was ready this time with the first black candidate. Did you see the YOUTUBE clip where Obama said the Constitutional was insufficient? Did you see the clip where CNN reported that the coming out party at Ayer’s house was NOT organized by the Illinois representative, that the story was a LIE told by Obama and Ayers? Of course you didn’t see any of those stories because the media blocked truth because of the swiftboat example from 2004.

The media and the government learned how to tell the big lie decades ago. You probably won’t watch this historic clip, if you do, then you probably won’t believe it. They couldn’t pull off THE BIG LIE with so many watching so closely, could they? The answer is not only did they pull it off but they see exactly how simple it is to do.

I thought at the time, and think now, that I would have died of shame had some 200 people, who worked with me at some time in my life, questioned both my bravery and my integrity. The Kerry affair has only served to convince me that most politicians lack a moral compass and simply cannot be shamed.

Shortly after the election, the DNC media began using the term "swift boating" as a shorthand reference for supposedly dishonest political criticism - but only for criticism targeting Democrats or Democratic initiatives. Like the earlier use of "McCarthyism," this sloganeering was intended to silence debate through repetition.
It was, is, intended to silence debate by slandering both the SBVT organization/membership as well as whoever they tar with the same brush by accusing of "swiftboating."

The SBVT learned that their central opposition was what Swet calls "the DNC media." I cannot overemphasize my disagreement with the term "the media." It is certainly true that fictional entertainment films and TV shows have the same tendency as do the print and broadcast journalists - but, after all, if you accept that people have the right to publish fiction you can scarcely blame them for making up stories the way they wanna without first getting the permission of the Republicans. So IMHO the beef is not with "the media" as a whole, the beef is with the homogeneity of the political perspective of journalism.

Journalists who were independent of each other would not concede that anyone else was unambiguously objective. But journalists are not independent of each other - they are associated, in a body known as the Associated Press. That association is what gives journalists the motive to anoint each other with the mantle of "objectivity." And the mutual desire of journalists to promote journalism above the mundane businesses of hunting and gathering which gives associated journalists their leftist slant. Leftism being nothing more than envy of the credit others get for actually doing work instead of just talking.

I’m sure you are correct. Kerry was hideously besmirching the reputations of American servicemen in Vietnam and—surprise!!—a lot of them refused to put up with it. Who the f-— was Kerry to think he could film his ‘Nam activities, create a heroic persona for himself, smear the crap out of men who served honorably, and get away with it?
