She was initially recommended by Moynihan of NY to GHW Bush. Then she was nominated for the Appeals Court by bubba. The repubs had a hold on her nomination because they feared she would be nominated to the USSC. Trent Lott caved and allowed her to be voted on and she won with 67 votes. PUKE
Trent Lott caved?
Did he do a cheer, too?
Just imagine what would happen if a white male judge had said, "A wise white man with the richness of his experience...."
That was what Greta said that she had diabetes as a child. And that made her more likely to have feelings...nothing more than feelings.
This is why I voted for McCain, warts, skin cancer, psychoses and all!
Here’s an interesting article on Sotomayor. Especially some of the comments.:)
No matter who he picks, the nation is in trouble.
How does having an illness make you have empathy? Even Greta is drinking the Koolaid.
“Nah. The right will cave”
The GOP already caved. Back when Bush Sr cut a deal with Moynihan to appoint her to the Federal bench due to them wanting a FEMALE HISPANIC.
More racial politics...she truely is the affirmative action SC Justice.
...and yes elections do have consequences...I just wasn’t prepared that it would have been the election of the first Bush that made this all possible.
Boy, the Dims are really just better at this government game.
If leftists think she is 59, maybe that says something about their math skills.
The case, Ricci v. DeStefano, involved a group of 19 white firefighters and one Hispanic firefighter who filed suit in 2003 claiming that the city of New Haven, Conn., engaged in racial discrimination when it threw out the results of two promotion tests because none of the citys black applicants had passed the tests.
Each of the plaintiffs had passed the exam. The case is currently before the U.S. Supreme Court.
The city threw out the results because it feared potential lawsuits from activist groups if few or no minority candidates were promoted. The city also claimed that in addition to potential lawsuits, promotions based on the test results would undermine their goal of diversity in the Fire Department.
The firefighters sued, arguing that New Haven was discriminating against them by deciding that the tests would promote too many white candidates and too few minorities.
Federal Judge Janet Bond Arterton rejected the firefighters appeal, siding with the city and saying that no racial discrimination had occurred because the city didnt promote anyone at all.
U.S. Appeals Court Judge Sotomayor issued an order that affirmed Artertons decision, issuing a one-paragraph judgment that called Artertons ruling thorough, thoughtful, and well reasoned,
Ben Nelson, I hope you mean what you said about no activist judges.
Absolutely, because he has no ability to pick anyone who would uphold the Constitution.
Will she get confirmed? Probably, but not necessarily. But it does not have to happen without Zero spending enormous amounts of political capital on this. If Senate Republicans can stop kissing up to the Hispanic lobby (they'll never ever vote for us, unless we're as generous with the freebies as the Rats have been) and start exploiting the politics of division (yes, that's what an opposition party does), we can use this pick as an example.
Many really stupid guilty white Americans thought that a vote for an African-American president was going to "forgive" their race for centuries of racism. They thought Barry would help smooth over the fury that angry minorities have displayed over the past forty to fifty years. Sotomayor's decision on the New Haven firefighters' case proves that the executive and judicial branches of government will still be bent over backwards to accomodate the demands of the unqualified.
We need Republicans with the testicular fortitude to slam hard on this, and other such views of this would-be writer of laws, and show the really stupid people that they were being sold sizzle, and not steak when they voted for Lord Zero.
We may get stuck with this lousy woman as a Justice, but if it costs Obambi his second term, it might be worth it.
Widely considered a political centrist...
Tim O’Brien was telling Bill Hemmer that Barry wants a judge with a heart...ah, how sweet. But even Chuck Schumer says Justices must apply the Constitution and not go by their feelings. Tim says if that’s the case, she will not be confirmed. If she says she does not like the law, she has very serious problems. Tim thinks that if the Senate can’t vote by September and she’s out taking pot shots, this pick was premature.
Yep that affirmative action case will be the most controversial.
A whopping one paragraph of empathy and sympathy went into her decision lmao.
She probably couldn’t get 2nd place at a good private high school mock trial club.
To all of the white working class nimrods...enjoy your unemployment, you deserve everything you voted for....and btw, get at the end of the line for you next application for employment.
Bill Sammon is telling Bill H. that she may be a wild card on abortion and not liberal enough for the left.
Here’s an idea, a Senator asks her during confirmation hearing where she stands on the Heller case, whether it is now settled law. When she starts talking about gun grabbing, the NRA can make this a vote going towards your NRA grade. That would wake up some of these Senators...
Most liberals see themselves as centrists because of their self-centered world view. They have no perspective on how they views square with history.
“Bill Sammon is telling Bill H. that she may be a wild card on abortion and not liberal enough for the left.”
Well that would truely be a gift from God.
However, I’ve seen the Left operate and I think it is more likely that she hid her feelings on abortion for this very day in her life.
...hope I am wrong but I don’t see it.
If she is the most liberal out of the ones being considered, this could also be a canard. She could be the sacrificial lamb that gets rejected and then he sends up his real (and just as liberal) nominee. Don’t discount this. Remember, Harriet Meirs was not a win for the dumbocrats because we got Alito whom they hate.
Fred Barnes thinks that a few things on her might come out of the woodwork, as in her personal life.
Fred kept pushing that- not sure if it was cause he’s looking for any port in a storm or because he many know something...
I’m sitting here unable to work, staing out the window in total disbelief that Obama is the POTUS.
Worse, I remember going through this with Clinton and thinking (yeah, but he’s a one termer)
I need a positive to happen...Israel bombing Iran...something (yikes egads)
Elections have consequences!!! Some republican senator said this is not a bipartisan consensus pick, I like to slap people in the head for even thinking this is or was an option with odumbo
the Dems are so devious, this could in fact be the case. Ben Nelson could even be part of the strategy. Why else would he so publicly challenge the activism of the pick right before it was announced.
Anyone who has doubts about Sotomayor will soon be branded “racist” and “sexist”.
Note: The fight will come down to Sotomayor vs the NRA.
Re: To all of the white working class nimrods...enjoy your unemployment, you deserve everything you voted for....and btw, get at the end of the line for you next application for employment.
I can just see it now. Illegals will be given ID cards by the government and the new undergound ID card market will be for white males looking to change their name to something hispanic-sounding to be even considered for a job.
People wanted change? Well, they got it.
Sotomayer: I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasnt lived that life.
Now a SCOTUS seat will be judged by “American Idol” rules.
She settled the baseball strike back in the 90’s....
If she does get confirmed, she will be the reliable meat head vote and nothing more. Souter = Sotomayor. I’m getting some interesting mental pictures of Roberts correcting her grammar in his dissents.
I can’t stand geraldo..he makes me sick...and this woman looks more asian than latina..
Ranking Member, R-Alabama

Who'd a thunk it?
Hmmm... I read it, and as an opening salvo it’s pretty weak. No substantive Sotomayor opinions or analysis on ‘em, and the sources are all anonymous.
Maybe with the announcement today people can start digging deeper. I hope so. We need more than “she’s liberal” in order for it to get momentum outside of the Senate minority.
Krauthammer is on Fox right now telling another great American story - the firemen in New York - the reverse discrimination case that Sotomayor dismissed and is now before the Supreme Court. The one fireman spent $1,000 on books, studied 10-11 hours a day and had to hire a reader as he is dyslexic. This man scored at the top, but the results were thrown out and no one was promoted because no African Americans scored in the top tier on the test.
As usual, Krauthammer nails it.
Perhaps Fred does know something...I loved when Charles K. told Bill about the fireman’s story.
