Obama Chooses Sotomayor for Court
New York Times ^ | May 26, 2009 | Jeff Zeleny

Posted on 05/26/2009 5:44:29 AM PDT by reaganaut1

President Obama will nominate Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit as his first appointment to the court, officials said Tuesday, and has scheduled an announcement for 10:15 a.m. at the White House.

If confirmed by the Democratic-controlled Senate, Judge Sotomayor, 54, would replace Justice David H. Souter to become the second woman on the court and only the third female justice in the history of the Supreme Court. She also would be the first Hispanic justice to serve on the Supreme Court.

The president reached his decision over the long Memorial Day weekend, aides said, but it was not disclosed until Tuesday morning when he informed his advisers of his choice less than three hours before the announcement was scheduled to take place.

The president narrowed his list to four, according to people close to the selection process, including Federal Appeals Judge Diane P. Wood of Chicago, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Solicitor General Elena Kagan.

Whatever the current “verdict” on Sotomayor is, I guarantee we will be cursing her name in the future. She will be a leftist activist. No good can come out of this illegal “president”, even by accident.

I'm a little surprised he didn't pick Diane Wood. Soto isn't well like even among Democrats, she's described as something of a megalomaniac.

Which explains why Obama likes/relates to her.

From Wiki

Widely considered a political centrist by the American Bar Association Journal and others, Sotomayor was nominated on November 27, 1991, by President George H. W. Bush to a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York vacated by John M. Walker, Jr. (the president’s cousin). She became the youngest judge in the Southern District and the first Hispanic federal judge anywhere in New York State.

Sotomayor is an absolute liberal/socialist idealogue.

America gets what it voted for, and this undeniably underscores the betrayal of conservatism by the Rino loser non-campaign run by the elite last November.

The announcement by the Treasury that a CRISIS had to be fixed in DAYS has turned out to be a huge lie. That money STILL isn’t spent.

That means that a republican was intentionally derailed by someone on his own side.

They wanted an Obama win, and SCOTUS was one of the major reasons they wanted it.

Huge Betrayal!

Wow it only took twenty minutes for the news media to shelve her liberal record and talk up the “rags to riches story” I guess if we can get an American Idol president why not glamorize his supreme court picks.
Expect a tv movie starring JLO sometime next year.

Clarence Thomas is the ONLY Judge who doesn't think they make the laws.

All of the Judges are legal postivists and think law is what THEY say it is.

Tax evasion is a plus for potential nominees in the view of most Democrats.

On the plus side, if Obama keeps nominating the same kind of people then the back taxes they're forced to pay may almost cover the cost of his health care plans.

0bozo could have done a lot worse, imho.

Fox Business Channel just mentioned an opinion recently posted on a legal site, describing Sotomayor as having pro-corporate tendencies.

She’s originally a Bush-41 appointee.

There is no way she will run against him. This is a move to further cement the Hispanic vote and appease the far left of the party.

Needs to be repeated. RINO's appoint Sotomayors and Souters...

There's a reason why "read my lips" only served one term. Not so oddly, it's the same reason McCain lost and Powell is wrong. We don't need more RINO's. We don't need to move "Left".

Sotomayor’s reputation is of being overbearing, long winded, and a bit of a lightweight in terms of legal analysis. In other words, she’s just like Obama.

She's orginally a Bush-41 appointee.

Sorry, that doesn't make it better for me, knowing what I know now about the Bush dynasty.....and his son's proclivity for ignoring the rule of law when it concerns amnesty.

This was not a stamp of approval or relief when I heard.....rather a red flag.
