P.T. Barnum was a hype-master supreme engaging the public curiousity with bombastic statements about the “freaks” in his attractions. Follow the money and you’ll find an understudied over-hyped fossil and wonder how they got you to look in the first place.
Reminds me of a story my father told me, about going to a carnival and visiting a tent that advertised “See a swimming match”, only to find a match in a bowl of water.
