Thirty-seven-year-old Jermaine Broach of Laurel was arrested and charged with public drunkenness, hit and run, no insurance and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in relation to Tuesdays automobile accident involving two minors.
Broach was a passenger in a vehicle that was driven by Shante Nicole Wilson, 12, before it plunged over an embankment and flipped into a canal with swift flowing water. Captain Tommy Cox of the Laurel Police Department said Broach was apparently teaching the girl to drive. Shanquida Wilson, 6, was also a passenger in the vehicle.
They are all very fortunate, said Cox. We dont think there were any substantial injuries. Obviously, some one could have been seriously injured.
Broach, who was arrested at the scene, had fled to a nearby house following the accident, leaving the girls to fend for themselves. Walter Pruitt, 49, and Antonio Adams, 36, both of Laurel rescued the girls from the overturned vehicle.
Him leaving the girls there says a lot about his character, said Cox. That was something.

I thought Teddy Kennedy was in the hospital.
Seems Dad had a few too many beers with his crabs, and she was told to drive home (1970's). They left the eastern shore of MD and headed home. It wasn't until she woke her Dad and asked about which exit to take. She was heading south on 301 (later renamed I-95) and was within 35 miles of Richmond. He sobered up fast and drove the rest of the way back home.
I’m glad they caught the drunk, and kudos to the men who rescued the girls.
Now, before anyone says anything about the driver being 12, I started driving when I was 12. ;o)
My wife learned to drive this way. She would drive her dad and uncle home from the bar when she was 9 y.o. She could only do 25mph because that was as far as her leg would stretch. Her brother and cousin would watch the highway (yes, she drove 30 miles home on the highway). She’s a very good driver today.
A democrat is a democrat...
Yeah, like being named Barak.
So did I! I grew up in the country (northern Wisconsin) and just about all the youngsters learned to drive early. We had a wheel tractor, a D2 cat, a "doodlebug" (cut down truck with two transmissions and no suspension), and a 1952 Ford 1 ton stake bed. I started with the Dbug pulling a tree planting rig (I figure that we planted well over 100,000 white pines so I've got a few carbon credits coming...). My favorite was the D2 'cuz you could make your own road.
I went for my drivers license the day I turned 16 and got it on the first try. My older brother had to re-test 'cuz he drove thru a stop sign on the road test! We never let him forget either.

ROTFLOL!!
My parents and my brother were driving from Maryland to Indiana for church camp and Dad let my brother drive the camper after Breezewood, PA. Somehow we ended up a few miles outside of Cleveland before we woke Dad up and asked him how to get back on the right highway.
Lordy! Even though I didn’t grow up in the country, we have a lot of things in common.
We had a country lake house. And...it was private property.
I started driving cars...then motorcycles...then the easiest of all..BOATS!
My family is full of farming folks. We all learned how to drive tractors at a young age. ;o)
I failed my first driving test (at 15) because I had never been introduced to cones. lol
LOL!
Great movie!
