Does Medicaid pay for trans sexual operations?

Posted on 05/30/2009 6:08:49 PM PDT by cradle of freedom

Just wondering how those people who decide they want to change there sex get the money to pay for what must be very expensive proceedures and operations? Does Medicaid pay for this?

On the Laura Ingraham show this week, she spoke of a case of an 8 year old boy who goes to a Catholic school who says that he wants to be a girl. The parents say that he has wanted to be a girl since he was 2 years old. The parents say that they have been to professionals who are helping him to "transition."

Many questions come to mind such as what did those parents do to the kid to make him turn against his own masculinity. The next question is who are these professionals who are advising this kid and his family? Is there some gay/transexual pipeline of counselors who find confused people (even little kids!) and then pass them along to some unscrupulous surgeons who will be all to eager to do the operations for the money.

This is where the question about Medicaid comes in. Where are these people getting the money to perform long, complicated and expensive proceedures when many don't have insurance for real, necessary procedures? Does Medicaid pay for this and does private insurance pay for this?

It makes you also question the morals and ethics of people who would counsel anyone, especially an eight year old boy, to mutilate their bodies to fit some unfortunate delusion that they have about themselves. Is there anyone out there who would counsel these people to NOT mutilate there bodies? Is there anyone in the medical community who would recommend that they get psychiatric counseling to accept who they really are rather than destroying their bodies?

Do you think you smell a rat? I do. I think there must be a network of unscrupulous counselors and surgeons who perform these abominations. Maybe it is similar to those ambulance chasers who have doctors and chiropractors that they shop their patients to in order to milk the insurance companies for all they can get. I think that desreputable counselors and pychiatrists tell these confused people that they really are women in mens bodies then pass them on to these butchers who make a lot of money of these proceedures.

OK, I have a question. Out of all the "gender reassignment" surgeries, what percentage of them are women who want to be men?

Hello? All you men in womens' bodies? The taxpayers will pay for an addadictomy. Then you can enjoy the life of an American man. Hello?

It sounded a little funny to me when I read the stats, but hey I guess you can’t believe everything you read on the net. Thanks for the clarity.

Odin - Well said, sir.

I can’t blame you - there’s an awful lot of misinformation, and sometimes deliberate falsification, about this issue.

If you can remember the source, I’d be most grateful, because as with the “Plastic Turkey”, and virtually everything said about Gov. Palin, such falsehoods often get treated as established fact unless strongly and quickly refuted.

About 1 in 4.

Most guys born with feminine bodies can live reasonable lives pretending to be butch lesbians. The problem they have is that, while the hormones work brilliantly, the surgery isn't ready for prime-time yet. $100,000 and a success rate of 30% discourages most of them.

Maybe I should say what we know transsexuality is now - it's a form of Intersex. That is, someone who's born with a body neither wholly male nor wholly female. Many Intersex conditions are obvious from external appearance. Others, you need ultrasounds and X-rays. Others, gene tests.

Autopsies and MRI scans have shown that every transsexual ever examined has had cross-gendered neurology in particular areas of the brain - and often elsewhere too.

As one Professor of Urology stated recently to the APA:

We spoke for 2 1/2 hours on why cross gender identity was a normal inherited variation of humans. We showed how Transgender Brains think, smell, and hear like the opposite sex.
The effect isn't subtle. These really are men born with mostly female bodies, or women born with mostly male ones. I say "mostly", because quite often it's not just the brain that's cross-gendered, there's other , more obvious Intersex conditions too. Most of the knowledge in this area has come from biologists, neurologists, geneticists, urologists, endocrinologists and so on, as many of the psychs are still talking about "spirit release therapy", and the like.

This has not gone down well with many Leftists either, as it's been an article of faith to them that Gender is nothing but a Social Construct.

Parenthetically.... what's really interesting from sociological, psychological and even theological viewpoints are the rare Intersex conditions such as 5ARD or 17BHDD that cause a "natural sex change", usually from female at birth to male later. There's at least 3,000 men in the USA who were born looking like little girls, were brought up that way, but who had an unexpected male puberty. And maybe another 1,000 women who would have had one, except for emergency medical intervention. Not everyone with these conditions is neurologically male.

This fixing pyschological problems with medicine is broader than just this problem. It seems that many pyschiatrists are pretending to resolve deep rooted pyschological problems with some kind of physical treatment such as drugs or in the case of people with confused sexual identities going as far as mutilating the human body.

I think the case of the eight year old boy who said that he was a boy, it appears to fit the template of “fixing the kid” rather than looking at the whole family. It is easier to give the kid drugs than to look at the whole family dynamic. This case of the eight year old “transsexual” appears to be that way. I think that some way it was communicated to that boy that being a boy was not okay. He picked up these messages (which were probably subliminal) and began to dislike his own masculinity.

There may be other expressions of this happening. For example, the school shootings which are usually done by boys may have some element of boys with a displaced identity. Society today sends so many negative messages about maleness, add to that a home situation that is problematic and that combination of events can take the expression of violence. One kid turns against his own masculine identity and wants to become a girl, another kid explodes in an irrational anger that even he does not understand.

Another example of medicating the child rather than dealing with the crazy parents, is a case in Massachusetts where a five year old was drugged to death by her parents and pediatrician. This little girl had been molested by her either her father or stepfather but he was allowed to get back into the home. You can see how the little girl would have had problems living in a home like this. But rather than dealing with the pyschological problems of the adults, the system treated the little girl as if she was the problem and not the parents.

I think this happens in many ways, the pyschiatrist does not look the parents in the eye and tell them that they are causing the problems in their kids. The parents are the paying customers so they just do the bidding of the parents and give drugs to the kids. I believe this is what happened with the eight year old boy who wanted to be a girl. I believe the parents went to their doctor because the boy was acting in an abnormal way. I don’t know what the doctor said, but if the doctor didn’t say what the parents wanted to hear, they probably would have shopped around for another doctor who would let them off the hook and tell them that it was some chemical problem and let’s fix the kid by changing his sex - problem solved.

It sounds like you are describing people with physical abnormalities. I don’t think we are talking about the same thing. I was speaking of people who were physically of one sex and then decided at some time that they wanted to become the opposite sex. For instance, there was a notorious case in Massachusetts of a man who murdered his wife then decided he wanted to become a woman. This man was married to a woman, and I believe that he had children so it seems that he was a man like any other man but then decided late into his life that he wanted to be a woman. This doesn’t sound like he is someone who was born with a physical abnormality.

The trouble is, as I’ve said, that every person presenting with the symptoms of what we call “transsexuality” has shown the same pattern.

There are psychological conditions that appear superficially similar, but the diagnostic criteria are completely different. They’re easily distinguished. Basically, the psychotics are, well, psychotic, while the transsexuals are obviously sane in all other ways.

Of children who exhibit cross-gendered behaviour, only 1 in 3 are transsexual. The rest grow up to be gay though, indicating a biological cause for this minority of gay people. This is intractable, no amount of beatings, electroshocks, or other “aversion therapies” changes this.

As for the person who murdered their wife, then decided to “become a woman”, I’m maybe a little cruel. I say let him. Castrate him, and give him female hormones. Take MRI scans over years and you’ll be able to see the male neurology progressively degenerate under those conditions. You’ll see the brain shrink. Put him on 24 hour suicide watch though, the discomfort is reportedly extreme.

50% of transgendered children self-harm before age 20. It’s probable that the suicide rate for transgendered people who don’t at least get endocrinal correction is over 50%. To deliberately make someone transsexual would be cruel and unusual punishment. But fitting if they ask for it.

You sound like one of the few informed persons on this very controversial subject. I don’t pretend to understand how this condition might present itself, nor do I pretend to understand how such a person might feel. It’s a wierd thing. Thank G_d that I was born with a penis and I’m OK with that.

In Florida, August, 2012, we find gynocologists blocking pain management, requiring new PCP changes and illegal canellation of Medicare Advantage plan HMOs. At the same time the State employees are arguing that drug testing laboratory analysis constitutes unlawful search or seizure, the new doctors demand tests right after the patient has already passed screening, with one exception: the legal prescription for pain medication comes back from the lab as PCP, angel dust, after over four years of quarterly testing without contaminated results. In Viet Nam, troops were trained to oppose all treatment for pain, and wound up with the veterinarian pain medication for animal surgery PCP. You can donate your organs if you want to in Medicaid, but I never qualified for that program.

It is a conservative urban legend. In New York, the Department of Health prohibits any benefits under medicaid for any health care related to gender reassignment. See 18 NYCRR 505(2)(l). The rule was implemented in 1997 and has remained on the books ever since. However, the basis for this exclusion is that the treatments haven’t been proven to be safe and effective over the long term. An avalanche of studies since the mid-1990’s has shown the very opposite so New York’s rule may not be viably defended on that basis if challenged. Further, many studies have shown that sexually dimorphic brain anatomy and functioning of transsexuals is, in terms of gender and sex, cross wired. Despite their XY or XX chromosomal compliment, the sex specific elements of their brain and their brain’s neuronal functioning match that of the opposite sex. They are thus biologically intersexed. They have functional anatomy of both sexes when one includes the brain on the list of anatomical, sex-specific differences between men and women. Study after study after study shows that the human brain is sexually dimorphic just as much as are breasts and testicles and in fact, has far more influence on identity and behavior than more obvious anatomical differences.
