Abortion Doctor Killed in Church

Late-term abortion doctor George Tiller, a prominent advocate for abortion rights wounded by a protester more than a decade ago, was shot and killed Sunday at his church in Wichita, a city official said.

A City Hall official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak about the case told The Associated Press that the 67-year-old doctor was killed Sunday morning at Reformation Lutheran Church.

Police spokesman Gordon Bassham would not confirm the victim's identity pending notification of relatives. He said the shooting occurred at 10:03 a.m. and the gunman fled the scene in a 1993 powder blue Ford Taurus registered in another part of the state.

Bassham said no suspects were in custody. He said it is not clear whether one or more suspects were involved. Capt. Brent Allred said police were looking for a gunman who fled in a 1993 light blue Ford Taurus registered in Merriam.

Anti-abortion group Operation Rescue issued a statement denouncing the shooting.

And these cases are always done due to severe birth defects that are not compatible with life.

Always?

Source, please.

“The idea that a late-term abortion doctor goes to church just boggles my mind.”

That’s nothing ~ wait till the left tries to cannonize this man as a martyr and a saint by sundown tomorrow evening.

They are going to have a field day with this.

Anyone check this guy’s bank account for payments from planned parenthood? :/

I didn’t know only 3 US doctors did 3rd trimester abortions. That says a lot.

So the ban didn’t take? They just do something besides “dilation and extraction”?

Actually, most third trimester abortions just use the same procedures as second trimester abortions. The doctors simply do a souped up version of the second trimester abortion by dilating the cervix further, using greater amounts of poison, and probing the womb with bigger forceps to prevent any "complications" (usually botching an abortion this late in the pregnancy results in live birth since the baby is viable outside the womb). It's a common misconception that all third trimester abortion is accomplished by partial-birth abortion (ID&X). I have no background in medicine, but most medical experts have testified that the ID&X "partial-birth abortion" technique is never medically necessary, that's why it was banned.

There are at least three medical procedures associated with late-term (third trimester) abortions:

1) Dilation and evacuation (D&E)
2) Early induction of labor (Induction abortion)
3) Intact dilation and extraction (IDX or D&X), known as "partial-birth abortion"

You can look up the details online of how these three different procedures work, I won't post it because it's pretty disturbing stuff. They also used to do third trimester abortions two other ways, by 4) Saline Abortion and 5) Hysterotomy (basically the abortion version of a C-section except in this case the baby is dead when the stomach is cut open). Those techniques have now become "outdated" however.

I'm guessing Tiller used the "Dilation and evacuation" and early induction of labor methods for pregnancies past 24 weeks. If he was performing partial-birth abortions he would be violating federal law (though I wouldn't put it past him to do something illegal like that)

So basically, third trimester abortion wasn't banned in the U.S., only partial-birth abortion. However, most abortion clinics will refuse to do them. It should be noted that in most "modern western nations" that allow abortion, like England, France, Germany, Australia, Canada, etc., still never-the-less prohibit third trimester except to save the mother's life. The U.S. is one of the exceptions that allows third trimester abortions.

I wonder how politicians like Mark Kirk can sleep at night when they vote in favor of this stuff. They have to have read the details of the procedures. Pretty sick stuff.

Also of note, it's true that roughly only 0.08% of abortions in the U.S. every year are preformed during the third trimester of pregnancy. However, with the sheer number of abortions in the U.S., that still amounts to roughly 1,032 “third trimester” abortions per year in this country.

Here you have a guy who served as an usher at his church; his wife sings in the choir; and yet from Monday-Saturday every week, he made his money by brutally murdering innocent babies in gruesome, grizzly fashion!

That actually happened with the BTK Killer, Dennis Rader. And he held a position within his church.

If this doctor was so evil explain why do Christians, who I count myself among, have abortions at the same rate as non-Christians, Catholics at a rate 28% higher than the general population? While I don’t condone what this man did for a living he wasn’t forcing anyone to kill their baby. Christians need to stop throwing the first stone, yelling and screaming from the sidelines and instead work to create a country where people, especially of limited economic means, feel it’s a safe and good place to bring up children, not kill them.

Welcome to Free Republic - I think. I don't think you have any proof of your claims.

Your conclusions are based on way too many faulty assumptions to address.

Are you counting as “Christians” those who reject Biblical Truth and Authority? “Christians” who believe IN Jesus, but don’t believe what He said?

Second, Tiller was facilitating forced, or at least coerced abortions. Why do you think most of those abortions WERE late term? Procrastination? Or a family or boyfriend discovering the pregnancy and demanding she “take care of it”.

We DID have a country where it was preferable to bring up a child in a family with a father. Until, of course, the government stepped in to “help”. Thanks, libs, thanks alot...
