The suspect in this morning's fatal shooting of George Tiller is in custody, according to emergency dispatchers.
Authorities have yet to release more information about the arrest. Wichita police have scheduled a 4 p.m. news conference to discuss the case.
Police had said they were looking for white male who was driving a 1990s powder blue Ford Taurus with Kansas license plate 225 BAB. The vehicle is registered to an owner in Merriam, which is in the Kansas City area.
Wichita police Capt. Brent Allred said that several law enforcement agencies -- including the FBI and the KBI -- have been called in to help with the case.
"This is going to be a larger search than probably maybe just Wichita that we're looking for this individual," Allred said. "So we've got the resources coming in to help us with this investigation."
Allred said that no one else was injured in the shooting. He would not say how many shots were fired. He said it's unclear whether the shooter exchanged any words with the victim.
"We've got several people going downtown," Allred said. "This is going to be an investigation that is going to take a little while to get some of that information out."

When I read he had been killed, nary a tear popped into my eyes. I can’t help but think he’s been paid back for the hundreds of infants he has butchered. Hope he enjoys hell. Too bad, he could have actually saved people instead of killing infants.

The case became a cause célèbre for both supporters and opponents of abortion rights. Columnist Jack Cashill compared the trial to the Nuremberg Trials of Nazi war criminals, while NYU Professor Jacob Appel described Tiller as "a genuine hero who ranks alongside Susan B. Anthony and Martin Luther King Jr. in the pantheon of defenders of human liberty."
On March 27, 2009, Tiller was found not guilty of all 19 misdemeanor charges stemming from some abortions he performed at his Wichita clinic in 2003. (Who ever said they had intelligent jurors in Kansas)

My guess is he knew he would be caught. Probably he just didn’t want to surrender on the spot.
So Tiller is killed in a Lutheran church. I wonder how he rationalized what he was doing with the Christian faith. It seems to me he was outside the pale of any possible interpretation of Christianity.

Maybe I missed something, but I haven’t seen any “fools” celebrating it.
George Tiller was a despicable human being, and I don’t see any point in pretending otherwise, which would be sheer hypocrisy.
But that doesn’t make it right to shoot him, and I haven’t seen anyone saying that.
Wouldn’t it be odd if the killer really intended to kill anyone, just as long as it was done in a church...and he didn’t even know who Tiller was?
More now than ever, these are the threads that will garner attention from unwelcome prying eyes, you never know who is reading them and for what purpose

I’d have said, “hats off to the cops,” if they had been on time to stop Tiller from murdering babies and forever damaging young girls upon whom Planned Parenthood and Liberals prey.

Two hours ago, Kos had a compilation of freeper reactions to Tiller’s murder.
The church in question is part of the liberal mainline ELCA. There were probably no theological issues with his line of work, and he probably gave well at collection time.

I was being hyperbolic with “celebrate” but on the first thread there were more than a few saying this was a “good thing”.
Senseless acts abound to today’s world.
On the other hand, if it turns out the guy who killed Tiller is a Muslim we’ll get to see some very interesting media spin on this one, eh?

It’s a murder just like any other murder, no more, no less, and should be handled as such by the Wichita PD.
The fact that the deceased made his living killing babies should not make his murder any more egregious.
I’d argue that since he valued life with such disdain, that I can understand how some might take solace in the fact that he was murdered.
