WICHITA, KAN - Nearly four hours after abortion doctor George Tiller was gunned down and killed in his Lutheran Church, Johnson County police pulled over a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle on I-35 near Gardner, Kan. The Associated Press reports police have the suspect in custody.
Tiller, 67, was shot just after 10 a.m., at Reformation Lutheran Church where he was a member of the congregation.
See a locator map of the crime.
According to Wichita media, police described the suspect as a white male in his 50's or 60's with gray hair that is balding in the middle. He is about 6'1" and about 220 pounds and was wearing a white shirt and dark pants. He was last seen in a light blue Ford Taurus, possibly an early 1990's model. It has a K-State vanity plate and a Kansas license plate number 225 BAB.
Members of the congregation who were inside at the time of the shooting were kept inside the church by police. Those arriving were ushered into the parking lot. Some witnesses were transported downtown to answer questions.
Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortions. His clinic has repeatedly been the site of protests for about two decades. In fact, Tiller has been the victim of violence multiple times.
On June 9, 1986, a homemade bomb was detonated on the roof of his Wichita clinic. No one was injured in that incident. Then in 1991, protesters blocked the entrance to his clinic until a federal judge ordered they be arrested. Two years later on Aug. 19, 1993, Dr. Tiller was shot outside his clinic. His wounds were not life threatening, and Shelly Shannon, an abortion opponent, was convicted and sentenced to prison.
Operation Rescue, a pro-life Christian activist organization that speaks out against Tiller and his practices, released the following statement on Sunday:
"We are shocked at this morning's disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down. Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tiller's family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ."

He’s apparently a K-Stater. Does that count for anything?
Yeah, just want to know about entertainment.
high quality health care for the women who have a choice with horrific results for babies who were conceived by these very women only these babies had no choice as to whether they lived or died.
I want to be clear. I think everyone SHOULD know what these partial birth abortions are all about. I just think people would prefer to live in ignorance.
Yep. Sad, isn’t it?
The description is a fat white guy in his 50's or 60's driving a 15 year old Taurus. How much more stereotypical do you want?
I am convinced God gave us Obamination because of the sins commented by those of and like this dead SOB. This country, as a whole, has forgotten God and we are paying.
I hope that wacko group who demonstrates at military funerals in Kansas shows up at this one, too.
I think Leftists are in fear that it may be the father, or grandfather whose child or grandchild was aborted.
Thanks. I knew you meant it as you explained.
Is it a fact that Reformation Lutheran Church is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America? The ELCA?
And not of the Missouri Synod? LCMS?
(for the differences, see: http://www.lcms.org/pages/internal.asp?NavID=2146)
(Notwithstanding the reality that any local church can swing to the left or right of the national denomination.)
He was arrested in Johnson County but it's a Sedgewick County crime. They'll be the ones to release the name once he's been turned over to them and if they're convinced he's their suspect.
Thats how I see it.
Yep. I tend toward this view. That Obama isn't an instrument of Satan, but like several tyrants of the Hebrew Bible, is being used deliberately and consciously by the omnipotent God on His disobedient people.
If this view is correct, then the obedient Christian will stand back, "build houses and dwell in them, plant gardens and eat their fruit" while Obama wrecks things. (Jer 29:5) In other words, get on with life and not interfere with or fret about Obama's wickedness. Speak the truth, but otherwise let God's plan work its way out.
The same sorta question applies to killing George Tiller or Hitler or slave traders. When does the Christian act directly against evil, and when does the Christian step back and let the hand of God take care of things?
“Id rather go before St. Pete with Tillers murderers reputation than Tillers.”
I’d prefer to go submitted to the will of God and justified by Jesus’ sacrifice. Reputation is a man thing. None, even the best of us with the very best reputations, are worthy of redemption without grace. I hope Tiller repented his terrible sins before he died. And I hope his killer does too.
“Please, please let him be a Muslim. “
Or an environmentalist.
I hope Tillers killer will and has repented and asked LORD JESUS for forgiveness.
I think Tiller went to Hell.
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
