US president Barack Obama has said he is shocked and outraged at the murder of a top doctor who performed late-term abortions.
Dr George Tiller, the object of decades of protests and attacks, was shot dead in front of his wife in a Kansas church where he was serving as an usher.
A 51-year-old man was arrested 170 miles away in Kansas City three hours after the shooting on Sunday.
Johnson County sheriff's spokesman Tom Erickson identified the suspect as Scott Roeder.

Think about the math for a minute.
He would have had to have averaged 56.7 MPH from the second he fired the shot to the second the police picked him up 4 hours later 170 miles away.
Not an impossible feat, but not an easy one.
How did they know who it was, and how did they know where he was?
Something doesn’t add up yet.
Yeah it’s wrong and all, just like shooting a brutal dictator in a coup would be wrong, even though it is the right thing to do.

Dozens of people are murdered every day in America. I guess Obama felt compelled to comment on this one because of politics.

But no more shocked and outraged that Tiller was allowed to maintain a multi-year killing spree.
To have killed this “man” is a sin. The perp should be brought to justice and punished.

Not hard really. He had a vanity plate, they had his liscence plate and a description of the car. Given that the police have a modern communications capability it’s not surprising.

I’m not going to shed a tear for this monster but I do find it upsetting that his assassin chose a church on a Sunday morning to perform this deed. A church should be a holy place, not a sniper’s den. I hope they prosecute the killer to the fullest extent of the law. I understand what must have motivated this (much like the Slepian murder) but I don’t condone the killing of a man in church nor that anyone had to resort to violence. In one way, you could say this execution was performed because the state didn’t do their jobs and put him away the legal way.

I am not excusing the murder of the mass murder. He should not have done it. But then Obama should not have helped make it a probability.

Frankly I’m surprised a church would allow him serve in any position given his obvious disagreement with the most basic of Christian doctrines.

That is a tough one to agree with. Sometimes, I believe acting outside the law is the RIGHT, not WRONG, thing to do. To many people, late term abortions are government sanctioned murder of children. If that is one's hardcore belief, then as long as the shooter is willing to take his punishment, then so be it. He did what was right for him.
We all make decisions every day that have consequences and rewards. The shooter just happened to be dealing with one of the most serious decisions you can possibly deal with - taking a human life.
They had a description of the car and apparently the license plate number too, from earlier reports. And no doubt every policeman in the state was watching for that vehicle.
If the guy had forgotten about a new-fangled technology called "radio" and just simply hopped on a freeway rather than take evasive measures, well, that would explain this.
I remember being pulled over back in the 80s because my car matched that of a suspect's vehicle. Whatever info they had on him I didn't match the profile so they let me go in very short order.

What was the monster (the doctor, that is) doing in church anyway? Why did the pastor or whoever runs the place let him in the door? You shouldn't be upset that this happened in church, because clearly that church looked permissively and smiled and winked at what this "doctor" was doing. There was no sanctity left there, and it is just a building with the trappings of religion in it, nothing more.

It is a strange coincidence that after many, many years with no killings of abortionists, just when Obama is trying to get his first Supremen Court Justice confirmed, this should happen

Pro-life groups believe Sebelius’s connection to Kansas late term abortionist George Tiller is a major problem. This top WH official confirms that Tiller’s name has come up in discussions and acknowledges that if she’s picked there will be people gunning for her but that ultimately the Kansas Governor is getting a bum rap on the abortion issue. The discussion inside the White House centers on whether Sebelius’s stellar record as public servant trumps the controversy that could arise over Tiller.
While I definitely do not agree with Tiller’s murder, all the same, the man was white trash, and a murderer to boot. Good riddance.
In a way, this could be a good chance to put out there, in very real, very graphic terms, exactly what it is this doctor did to these unborn infants.
He was on the Kansas Turnpike on a Sunday Morning not the 405 on a Friday afternoon.
