White House Won't Reveal Cost of Obamas' Date Night (what happened to "transparency?")
Associated Press ^ | June 1, 2009

WASHINGTON -- White House spokesman Robert Gibbs is declining to say what it cost for President Obama and his wife, Michelle, to eat dinner and take in a play in New York over the weekend.

Asked if he would outline the costs, Gibbs said Monday the Obamas would have preferred using a commercial airline shuttle to New York and back but the Secret Service would not allow such unprotected travel.

Fine. I understand the security concerns. But they could have done it on their dime, not mine.

So, The One has never heard of chartered aircraft? I am sure that the Secret Service could handle security on a chartered jet. Of course, The One was lying; he loves rollin' in "his" big ol' jet.

LOL!! Fat chance. Mitch may have gotten her $500 sneakers dirty had she been forced to travel with the riff-raff.

And the auto execs caught how much crap about flying to DC in private corporate jets?

To be lectured about going into billions of dollars worth of debt by people who have spent the US into trillions of dollars worth of debt.

Maybe they should have rented a Chevy Volt and driven up. It’s only 5 hours and they could have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express and been much smarter for it.

The major problem — one of the major problems, for there are several — one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.

To summarize: it is a well known fact, that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem.

And so this is the situation we find: a succession of Galactic Presidents who so much enjoy the fun and palaver of being in power that they very rarely notice that they're not.

And somewhere in the shadows behind them — who?

Who can possibly rule if no one who wants to do it can be allowed to?

Barry treats the office he currently holds as a kingship, not the presidency of a republic.
He reminds me of the junior high student responding to the insipid question, “What would you do if you were president/governor/mayor?” The question is always asked as if holding one of those positions gives that person unlimited power to do whatever they wanted. At one time most people recognized that it was just a fantasy sort of question. The fanciful response would assume that one would have totalitarian power even though the reality is different. Unfortunately, a lot of the populace believes that being mayor/governor/president does entitle the beholder to a dictatorial power and Obama and his honey seem to believe that as well. There is always something just so very unsophisticated about Obama and his thoughts. He seems to always think like a fourteen year old....and not a very precocious one at that.

"The Audacity of....audacity?"

That's good.

If there's one thing President Obortion is, it's audacious.

If the public ever wakes up and runs him out of town on a rail like he deserves he can always find work in Chicago as a pimp.

But of course we know the Bushes were nothing but backwoods Bible thumping bumpkins who didn’t have the class or style to go out for a Sat. night in NYC. End of sarcasm.

Fly to NY. A nice diner and Broadway play, first class all the way. Fly home.

Lots of powerful people with lots of money(or access) do this or something similar on a regular basis. Or at least once did.

Like it or not he is prez and that puts him in that category.

My suggestion: Let’s do a pool. Everyone gets to take a guess and see who actually comes closest when they finally reveal the costs after we have made such an issue of it.

My guess $125,000

He could do it on his own dime, and I wouldn’t care.

Yes, he paid his dinner and theater tickets, but the taxpayer picked up the rest of the cost of transporting secret service and the media and all other transportation costs.

I can’t afford his date nights. If I’m to pay for their romantic evenings, I’m sure there is a Blockbuster in the vicinity which would do a lot less damage to my wallet.

The costs aren’t just for the aircraft operating hours. How much for the SS prep and vetting of the venues they were visiting? How much for ground transport, operating costs, fuel, etc. How much for Marine 1 to fly from the WH to Andrews? How much for the local PD to help provide security at the airport in NY? (Can you say OT anyone?)

The SS are usually augmented by local PD to assist the SS with manpower and the WH gets the bill from the locals. There are many more overhead and associated costs with this junket that I haven’t even touched on.

This trip was probably more in the range of $500,000 or more.

FUBO!

Powerful people with lots of money can do whatever they want, but someone flying on my tax dollars is totally different and like comparing apples and oranges.

If he wanted to pay for it, then fine. But takeing a helicopter, limo, and a plane for the media is wrong. Why did the media have to have a plane when the MSM is in NYC?

Waste of tax dollar money which I help contribute.

FLASHBACK:

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/President44/Story?id=6329884&page=1

Obama said the executives at those companies who have taken federal loans should act responsibly with the tax payers’ money, chiding Wall Street executives who sought multimillion dollar bonuses and the leaders of Detroit’s Big Three automakers who last week flew to Washington aboard private jets to ask Congress for a bailout.

He called the automaker executives “tone deaf” to the concerns of the American people.

Weeks away from his inauguration, Obama stressed to Walters the importance of personal, corporate and civic accountability in light of the cratering economy and said his presidency would be a return to “the ethic of responsibility.”

Obama said “captains of industry” on Wall Street and in Detroit who took advantage of corporate perks while their companies benefited from government loans paid for with taxpayers’ money, don’t have “any perspective on what’s happening to ordinary Americans.”

Michelle is probably a lot like his mother was or else the exact opposite.

I think that as Democrats wake up and realize they’re NOT as liberal as the Socialists, the number of people asking about 0bama’s Birth Certificate will grow.

There is going to be a huge crisis centered around DC and the White House. Which it will be is the current “unknown.”
