WASHINGTON -- White House spokesman Robert Gibbs is declining to say what it cost for President Obama and his wife, Michelle, to eat dinner and take in a play in New York over the weekend.
Asked if he would outline the costs, Gibbs said Monday the Obamas would have preferred using a commercial airline shuttle to New York and back but the Secret Service would not allow such unprotected travel.

Lots of powerful people with lots of money(or access) do this or something similar on a regular basis. Or at least once did.
Like it or not he is prez and that puts him in that category.
My suggestion: Let’s do a pool. Everyone gets to take a guess and see who actually comes closest when they finally reveal the costs after we have made such an issue of it.

I read somewhere it was around $45,000.00 of taxpayer money. It was on drudge. One of the British rags... so... who knows.
Whose money is he spending? his own, or ours?

Obama is probably is here to perpetuate one of the biggest frauds and scams in American history. That is his job.

He could do it on his own dime, and I wouldn’t care.
Yes, he paid his dinner and theater tickets, but the taxpayer picked up the rest of the cost of transporting secret service and the media and all other transportation costs.
I can’t afford his date nights. If I’m to pay for their romantic evenings, I’m sure there is a Blockbuster in the vicinity which would do a lot less damage to my wallet.
The costs aren’t just for the aircraft operating hours. How much for the SS prep and vetting of the venues they were visiting? How much for ground transport, operating costs, fuel, etc. How much for Marine 1 to fly from the WH to Andrews? How much for the local PD to help provide security at the airport in NY? (Can you say OT anyone?)
The SS are usually augmented by local PD to assist the SS with manpower and the WH gets the bill from the locals. There are many more overhead and associated costs with this junket that I haven’t even touched on.
This trip was probably more in the range of $500,000 or more.
