'He has used his formidable skills on behalf of the strong in opposition to the weak.'

The following is from then-Sen. Barack Obama's floor statement explaining why he would vote against confirming Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts (September 2005):

'He has used his formidable skills on behalf of the strong in opposition to the weak.'

Yeah, that's despicable.

Say, Mr. President, what's weaker than a 21 week old baby?

I can read between the lines, ORacist.

Most of the “weak” in the present day United States are that way because they CHOOSE to sit on their asses rather than lift a finger to better themselves.

I thought maybe it was because of his “jud-ja-ment” to quote the suit filled with hot air with a mean breeze blowing through it, now our joke-of-a-Vice-President, having the gall to question with his characteristic arrogance and rudeness at the hearings.

"I want to take Judge Roberts at his word that he doesn't like bullies and he sees the law and the court as a means of evening the playing field between the strong and the weak. But given the gravity of the position to which he will undoubtedly ascend and the gravity of the decisions in which he will undoubtedly participate during his tenure on the court, I ultimately have to give more weight to his deeds and the overarching political philosophy that he appears to have shared with those in power than to the assuring words that he provided me in our meeting. The bottom line is this: I will be voting against John Roberts' nomination. . . ."

Oh, you are just so incredibly noble, President Obortion.

You are not fit to shine the boots of John Roberts.

“He has used his formidable skills on behalf of the strong in opposition to the weak.”

Yes, but did he use his skills as a legal scholar and jurist, or did he just make stuff up like you want judges to do. If the latter, his only sin was that he didn’t fall on the side of the poor.

By the way, does Obama know that Big Government hurts poor people more than the rich, given, as in all things, the rich can take more of a beating? Just askin’.

...but I won’t.

What Obama can’t come out and say is that he doesn’t want an even playing field. He’s a leftist, he wants to shift power away from the Rich and other private authorities, and toward the state. He wants to benefit certain groups that will vote for him in turn. He wants to promote “social justice,” i.e. overturn natural justice and traditional justice in favor of socialism. Lofty goals, I tell ya. Too important to say out loud. Gotta act as if he’s promoting principles everyone already agrees with, like compassion and fairness.

“He has used his formidable skills on behalf of the strong in opposition to the weak.”

And the ‘Bama can distinguish the ‘strong’ from the ‘weak’ by the color of their skin, which is much simpler than examining the content of their character.

It makes me wonder why all this concern he placed on Judge Roberts decision making isn’t of importance now with his selection of Sotomayor. Where is all that concern now? Or is this another display of “what’s good for the goose, is not good for the gander”?

Zero needs to hold Sotomayor to the same standards that he held Roberts.

Why would racial bigot Obama vote for a fair-minded man?

Bigots only support other bigots.

You know I have lived in rural areas most of my life, areas that during the farm crisis the only people making more than $20,000 a year was those who worked for the government and most males graduating high school had to join the military because there was no local jobs and no scholarships to Ivy League schools.

In fact in my 42 years of life I don’t recall a single rural white kid given even a chance at an ivy league education that affirmative action Obama and wife got.

Sorry but the Obamas and Sodomayor is the strong and millions of hard working working class whites are the weak.

and Roberts still showed up to swear him in. If I was Roberts, I would have stayed home. They could have found someone else to do it(i.e Justice Stevens) and Roberts has life tenure. I’d have told Obama to pound sand.

"He wants to promote “social justice,” i.e. overturn natural justice and traditional justice in favor of socialism."

To claim to be for "social justice" and NOT stand for sanctity of life is an absolute and complete contradiction.

Only a liar and a hypocrite or someone with no moral bearings whatsoever and therefore no moral authority can possibly claim otherwise.

This is all smoke and mirrors.

Some time after this flowery speech, the Washington Post printed an article about Obama’s key staff people. It disclosed that he wanted to vote for Roberts but his chief handler wouldnt let him. The concern was that as soon as Roberts voted the “wrong” way on some issue of great importance to the left, Obama would take major heat.

So the speech is complete BS. The vote against Roberts was all politics and no principle.

I think it is important that we freepers, as well as senate Republicans, treat Sonia Sotomayor with the same respect and civility that Democrats have shown Republican judicial nominees. Exactly the same.

Thanks for posting! Who will ever forget Robert's answer:

"If the Constitution says that the little guy should win, then the little guy's going to win in the court before me," Roberts told senators. "But if the Constitution says that the big guy should win, well then the big guy's going to win because my obligation is to the Constitution."

It's pretty clear Obama doesn't agree.
