Ok, I went back and re-read Mesta's post and I see what your answer explains. When I read the above post the first time, I read it to mean that the first attempt that failed was that "the powers that be try to get rid of him some other way". That is what I was questioning.

What was it?

It was a planned assassination attempt. Botched by those who were supposed to do the deed. Supposedly someone who had nothing left to lose. I can't really explain more. I wish I could. I have probably said too much as it is, but the warnings need to be out there, because when something DOES happen, and it will, the backlash from Muslims, both Arab and black, is going to be something normal people in this country are ill equipped to deal with.
