Boeing does land safely. I hope this isn’t a pattern developing.

Thanks for the state abbreviations. I live in Waterloo Township, MI, and we get a lot of air traffic!

There are a lot of plane problems lately but plane problems always seem to come in groups......

Just an update on radio: All 181 passengers and 8 crewmembers get off safely. All went well thankfully!

“If it ain’t a Boeing, I ain’t going.”

I also like MD-80’s. Airbus rides nice, but they have a troubling record.

That’s here in town. I have a friend who works at the airport; I’ll see what I can find out. It’s a *much* larger airplane than normally lands here (although the runway is plenty long), so the ground handling will be all kinds of fun for them. There’s only one jetway, and it doesn’t go nearly high enough for a 757 (door sill height around 15’), so I’m sure they had to dig out the airstairs to get the people off.

I worked out there the last time something like this happened (also a 757 bound for LAX). Once it lands it’s kind of funny - 200 people flying between two big cities get dumped into a little airport in the middle of Iowa. But with smoke in the plane, it makes sense to land on the nearest suitable runway.

Whenever you hear a plane have trouble over Iowa landing at a smaller airport, you unfortunately think back to 20 years ago with United Flight 232 in Sioux City.

At least if something happened in Waterloo they have 2 larger hospitals to handle an emergency like this.

A FB friend was on that flight. He said they could smell the ‘fire’ in the cabin.

I know, the A320 is a comfy ride for domestic flights. But a 757 is even nicer.

In all cases, I prefer Boeing.

Worst flight of my life was on a 757 from ATL to Charlotte thru a gnarly storm. Because it is such a short flight we only flew at 22,000 ft, which happened to be right thru the weather.

45 minutes of non-stop bouncing. A lot of scared people. Almost barfing. I didn’t mind so much. Experienced flier. Then I had to ride from ATL to LAX thru much of at, after the obligatory 3 hour airport delay, of course.

But as a whole, 75’s are great ships.

Much prefer riding in those 757’s when thunderboomers are in the area.
