Small comfort that shes unwilling to admit outright shell be applying The Ones empathy standard in close cases. Even those who profess a belief in forms of racial superiority have a limit to what theyll say publicly, I guess. As for whether The One was correct in insisting that she misspoke when she made her wise Latina comment or whether, as anyone whos thought about it for five seconds would realize, she meant exactly what she said given the nature of the occasion and the fact that she later approved it for publication, Leahy says nothing. At least therell be some fun at the confirmation hearing.
Speaking of which, 145 conservative leaders request, nay, demand a filibuster even though the GOP almost certainly wont have the numbers to pull it off. Productive:
[I]n an interview with POLITICO, Manuel Miranda who orchestrated the letter went much farther, saying that Mitch McConnell should consider resigning as Senate minority leader if he cant take a harder line on President Barack Obamas first Supreme Court nominee.
Miranda accused McConnell of being limp-wristed and a little bit tone deaf when it comes to judicial nominees
In arguing for a filibuster which Senate Republicans have already said is unlikely Miranda and other conservatives appear to be reversing course: When Democrats were in the minority, they demanded that judicial nominees of George W. Bush get up-or-down votes on the Senate floor.
But in their letter, the conservatives say their plan is different. While Democrats threatened to use a filibuster to block nominees, conservatives say theyre advocating a traditional filibuster to ensure that the debate over Sotomayor is appropriately long and, therefore, suitably catalyzed to the American people.
The limp-wrist remark suggests this is less about accomplishing something useful in the Senate than staking a claim to being the true true conservatives, the sine qua non of which is confronting liberals even when itll achieve nothing and quite possibly backfire. Does the Senate GOP have the balls to get up in the Democrats faces and obstruct a nominee whos sure to be confirmed anyway, even at the risk of alienating Hispanics and annoying independents? Man up, cowboys!
Judging from Sessionss genial comments after chatting with her today, Im sticking with my prediction of 75 votes or so.
Oh wait.
What about the Constitution?
Did you ask her if she would follow that?
In lieu of a filibuster, we should find someone who can accuse of her sexual harassment and discuss the finer points of Coca Cola and pubic hairs.
So did O.J.
yeah... don’t look at what I’ve done... look at what I say I’ll do...
Where have we heard that before?
“I’ll follow what I interject and how I interpret the law”.
It saddens me to see these Republicans give this racist, liberal activist, La Raza member a pass. She wouldn’t even be considered for a jury with her resume.
I think it is important that we freepers, as well as senate Republicans, treat Sonia Sotomayor with the same respect and civility that Democrats have shown Republican judicial nominees. Exactly the same.
Win or lose, there better be blood on the freaking floor.
I want to see that sick racist scumbag Sotomayor in tears.
They are not only limp wristed...they are spineless bozos who seem afraid to confront the opposition. Which is how we got an Obama as President in the first place. As far as I am concerned the McCains, McConnells, et. al. can go fly a kite. As for me I am not voting GOP in a national election until a conservative with balls has the spine to take on the direction the country is headed.
Freegards,
Lex
I get a nickle every time that picture of me is posted on the internet.
How did this man last so long in the Congress?
He is not only an idiot; he is an absolute fool.
Leahy...the pillar of leadership...Pffft!
As a white male, I must confess that I did not get the memo instructing me on how to think, as a white male.
Can justices be impeached?
Have any ever been impeached on the SC?
What would be reasons for impeachment?
Looks like he’s got the full package, too. Glad it’s covered.
The only thing that could derail this nominee at this point, is if it came out that she was Pro-Life. Then she wouldn’t even make it out of committee.
But then "Leaky" Leahy knows she won't.
What's that saying? In a pig's eye?
Wow, glad I don’t need to worry about that. Leahy opinion is good as gold /s
As if anyone could actually trust a liberal not to lie?
Jerry, are you back from The Dead?
weh hel if she promised someone as honest cough cough and trustworthy snort as Leahy.........
Leahy would support roadkill.
Ah...what's the difference when the second coming has put obammer in place?
Yeah, and David Souter told a sitting President that he wasn’t a flaming liberal.
Make her take the bar exam again.
“Yeah, and David Souter told a sitting President that he wasnt a flaming liberal.”
ROFL!
Leaky Leahy speaks.
“Cheney had it right. Leahy can go F@#& himself.”
I really liked Cheney before that episode, now...
... there’s a special place in my heart for him :-)
I don’t believe anything out of Leaky’s mouth. I certainly don’t believe him vouching for her either.
It’s just damage control. Leaky could’ve made a great cop. “Nothing to see here, people, move along.”
LOL!
