Newsweek Turns to Tina Tricks: Meet Guest Editor … Stephen Colbert!
New York Observer ^ | June 3, 2009 | John Koblin

Posted on 06/03/2009 10:34:16 AM PDT by Islander7

In the two weeks since Newsweek has redesigned, the magazine’s editors have sent out a statement that they intend to sever any and all connection to the turgid, dusty newsweekly of yore. And Jon Meacham, the magazine’s editor, is trying to recapture that age-old magazine editor’s trick for his newly conceived book: buzz.

For the next issue that hits newsstands on June 8, Comedy Central funnyman Stephen Colbert will be Newsweek’s guest editor, The Observer has learned.

At least the MSM is consistent. It would appear even the weeklies are rushing toward irrelevance.

So, after turning it into a far-left liberal magazine with zero value and no profits....now they determine the best way ahead is to turn it into a “comic” magazine?

My hope is...eventually...the National Geographic folks will turn to Jon Stewart...to work his comic talents with their magazine.

If I were a subscriber left to Newsweek...I’d regard this as a very weak management decision...and probably dump my subscription.

How strange. Ever since Clinton’s first election campaign I could have sworn Newspeak was coming straight out of Comedy Central. You mean Eleanor Clift, the Editor’s Page comments and the rest are meant to be serious?

Every self-respecting terrorist has a copy of Newsweek on their coffee table.

I'm pretty sure only doctor's offices still subscribe to Newsweek. I'm stuck reading Time, Newsweek or USNews every time I get a dental checkup.

I finally told the doc to cut it out if he'd still like to see my teeth. I'd rather read Knitting Monthly, Dental Hygiene Quarterly or Yoga Times than this tripe.

National Geographic is already a joke. They photoshop images for the cover (to move pyramids for logo placement, etc) and to multiply the number of head of zebra in a “herd”.

Newsweak has been a joke for years-it’s about time it’came out’...

How many copies are still being paid for by taxpayers (at public libraries, school libraries, etc)?

Beginning January of this year NEWSWEEK was showing up in my mailbox. My wife was SHOCKED that I would subscribe to such a liberal rag and made her concerns known to me. There was only one little problem. I never subscribe to it. They must really be hard up for readership.

I picked up a copy of the “new” Newsweek at the doctors office the other day. It is nothing but a bunch of articles by lefty reporters. The big article was on Iran and how great the people are and how the government is so misunderstood by the west. Also I noticed the price was $5.95. I will give them a year at most.

We get my deceased f-i-l’s subscription. I have to admit, the most recent issue is more balanced than in the past. On a scale of -1 to -10 (to the left, of course) it has been a -10 in the past. This issue is about a -7.

Newsweak will go the way of US news and world report, all internet.

Heck they might be the new left wing show on comedy central.
