WASHINGTON (AP) The Internal Revenue Service has filed a $819,848 tax lien against Sen. John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign, but Kerry on Wednesday blamed IRS clerical error for the claim and said his campaign owes no tax penalties.
The Massachusetts Democrat said the IRS mishandled payroll tax forms that he said were correctly filed by his campaign in 2005.
"This is a clerical matter, nothing more, nothing less," said Kerry spokeswoman Whitney Smith.

He must be up for a cabinet position...
I can guarantee you Sen F’n, Andrew Miga of Google news fully believes you.
I’ll give the benefit of the doubt, at least until more information comes available. Even Jean Francois deserves the benefit, when pitted against the awesome bureaucratic malevolence of the IRS.
When a thief gets caught and is made to pay the money back, does that mean that he becomes innocent? Does someone go to jail for this crime?
So, John, was purposely wounding yourself in Vietnam so that you would receive your 3rd purple heart and be shipped stateside a clerical error???
Sadly, I’d wager the IRS is the one in error here, as much as it kills me to say that.
No wonder the socialist democratic party is all about taxing everything - none of them pay taxes.
With the dem record on taxes, I’d take that bet.
He is an A$$HOLE, nothing more, nothing less!
Yeah, Like Kerry is known for his truthfulness.
Did he claim his “Man Servant” as a dependent?
Added Ms. Smith - "Oh, and didn't you know that Senator Kerry served in Vietnam? And was awarded three (count 'em, THREE!) Purple Hearts?"
booo...

Yep. Seems that the IRS has made some 'errors' on just about every democratic politicians tax forms. And always to the favor of the person who 'filed' the tax return.
Poor John. He’s gonna have to ask Teresa for another ‘loan’.
True, LOL.
Kerry is a pathological liar. The FReepers giving him the benefit of the doubt are far more generous than I am. If it turns out that Kerry (for once) is telling the truth, I won’t feel guilty about suspecting otherwise!
I have prepared IRS forms 941 and 940 for over 30 years.
The forms are not that difficult.
I only went to a one-room elementary school, and I don’t have any problem with them. Surely Kerry’s high-priced personnel and college educated staff should do better than this.
being a kept man most of his life, he's prolly used to begging for it by now
just try sending that reply back to the IRS when they tell you you own more. Sure, that’s going to work.
Sounds like an errand boy sent by IRS clerks....to collect a tax bill.
