CNN's Cooper Spotlights Woman Who Decided Against Late-Term Abortion

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper conducted a five-minute long interview of Diane Elder, a woman who decided to let her infant daughter live despite her severe genetic defects, during his program on Tuesday evening. The interview came about after Elder wrote Cooper after watching a similar interview he conducted the previous night of Lynda Waddington, a “pro-choice” blogger for the Huffington Post and RH Reality Check, who decided to have a late-term abortion herself (the anchor did not mention Waddington’s left-wing affiliations during the interview). (audio clips from the interview available here)

On Wednesday afternoon, the network’s “Situation Room” program played an extended clip from the interview, which followed an additional segment with a different parent whose twins were aborted late-term at the hands of murdered abortionist George Tiller. During this second interview, the father of the twins described how Tiller had the two babies “wrapped up in a baby’s blanket” and how the abortionist “baptized them.” Despite the two-to-one imbalance in the segments, CNN did at least try to balance the segments with the two supporters of late-term abortion with that of the interview of Elder.

During the interview with Cooper, Elder described her experiences during the four months after she found out that her daughter had Trisomy 18, a severe genetic disorder, and during the half-day that she shared with her daughter, whom she named Angela. Despite all the hardships that she and her family endured, Elder recounted how after her daughter was born, “we were very taken aback when we found that, when she was placed in our arms, we were happy. We were- we were incredibly happy...." Cooper dealt with the subject very sensitively, and thanked her for her strength at the end of the interview....

Contra what Whoopie said, these women should be revered and held up as exemplars - we need more like these!

This is a great interview. It may very well change someone’s mind about late term abortion.

Whoopie said that women who have had abortions should be revered. We now know all we need to know about her.

My sister-in-law found out that her baby was going to be a Trisomy 18 baby. She, too, opted to carry the baby as long as God would allow. She was urged, by the dr, to have an abortion, but she chose to follow the path God laid out for her. She gave birth four months early to a still-born baby girl, whom she named Rachel. Was it hard? I’ll say. She found out about the baby’s condition at only two months. She knew what the outcome was likely to be. It was three months of sadness and desperate prayers. I posted on this forum, in fact, asking for prayers.

I have such an admiration for my sister in law. Such faith!

Something I didn’t post: Two months after losing her dear daughter, Rachel, she learned that she was pregnant again. This time, she had a completely healthy baby girl, born on December 23rd of the same year.

Abortionists will be replaced. Unscrupulousness, cold-blooded, greedy individuals will always be around, especially when they have the consent and protection of the government. The hope is that by putting this issue in the forefront, people will talk about the issue, and maybe some pregnant women will have a change of heart and spare the life of their unborn child.

I'm not so sure about that. One reason that abortions have been reduced in the last few years is because there are fewer practicioners. There have been states in which abortion clinics have introduced legislation that would allow clinic workers other than MDs to perform them, because they're having trouble finding doctors to do the procedure.

Despite the fact that it's legal, abortionists are still not well regarded by their peers, and it seems many of the ones still doing abortions are getting older, and nearing retirement. I believe that's another reason the push was on for RU 486, because it didn't necessarily require an MD to do anything, other than prescribe the pills, because in many instances, the baby was born dead, at the mother's home, after the course of pills were completed. How ghastly that must be for a woman!

If you'll remember, with Hillarycare, it was to be required that doctors undergo training to do abortions. That was bad enough, but at the time, there was still the possibility of doctors not having to do them, if they had a moral argument against the procedure. I suspect That One's health care reform plan has a similar proposal with the disgusting wrinkle that doctors wouldn't even be able to opt out with a Conscience Clause.

” the father of the twins described how Tiller had the two babies “wrapped up in a baby’s blanket” and how the abortionist “baptized them.” “

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I just want to scream! He watched his babies murdered then “baptized”? Like that will make it Okay? Someone here said it last night, and I am starting to agree...Jesus I am ready for the rapture! In fact, Jesus please come back before I rapture! What in God’s name every gave these people the idea that this was “normal”? To baptize a baby once it is murdered? Okay if it was murdered by an unknown person...ie..someone attacked the mother that is different, but this was planned. They just kill it and baptize it and..oh well all is back to normal? What is wrong with these people? someone please tell me before my head explodes!!!!????

Point well taken.

I was thinking, however, that many observers were saying that the death of Tiller will only create more abortionists - I was only referring to that particular point.

I would just like to add 1 more question to those you already proposed.

What is normal about a physician performing a “baptism”?

I thought ministers and priests did that.

In the event of an emergency, any Baptized person can perform a Baptism. I just think it's kind of ironic that the parents kill the child, then want to make sure it's baptized. If they love the kid that much, give birth to it, and let it be adopted!

There was a thread on here within the past few days giving a link to pictures of parents with their aborted baby. Tiller offered that service too. The baby wrapped in a blanket with a rose and Mommy leaning in close. The parents in the pictures have since repented.

Tiller was a really warped man.

I've read this about five times and I just can't wrap my mind around it. I am just at a loss for words at how abhorrent that is...

In my religion a lay person is allowed to do it in an emergancy. ie if someone is going to die and you don’t think a Priest can get there in time. There are Catholics who carry Holy Water with them for this reason. I know a Catholic woman who was a mid wife and used to baptize every baby she delivered when she was on missionary trips. She never knew if the babies were going to live because of where they were born, and by baptizing them she was claiming them to Christ (in non christian countries no less, you gotta love this woman).

I saw that. I have been chilled since I saw that. I think my brain will explode. Like Glenn Beck used to say. WTF? Did she think she was going to show that picture to people? Hey look at the baby I aborted? Is it not beautiful? Is it sweet? Look at it with the rose and blanket lying there..........dead? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

okay my head exploded. Excuse me while I go to the ER and have them put the pieces of my skull back to gather which will be easy because I used duck tape.

I think that one thing this video points out to the audience is how it is a tremendous help to the mother and the family to go through and have the baby, not have it aborted. You could hear her choking up while retelling the story. From the picture, it appears that birth took place many years ago.

You're quite right, SuziQ, very few even among the professional abortionists do late 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions. There's probably a half a dozen of them in the whole USA who do 99% of the late abortions.

The number of abortionists has been dropping year by year, and their median age is climbing higher and higher. IIRC, the average age of an abortionist in this country is around 60, and some are remaining in practice into their late 70's precisely because they know there's nobody to take their place. Here's a typical article lamenting this situation, by an abortion supporter.

My prediction is that Obama will put a big emphasis on legalizing abortion by other-than-physicians: Physician's Assistants (PA's), RN's and Nurse Midwives.

The back alley will be back, all right --- in the front office.

And there will be a push to REQUIRE training for abortion in order to be licensed as a Gynecologist. That's already been proposed by the ACOG. Obama will insist on this as part of his Health Care takeover.

Watch for it.
