The Obamas turn up in Paris this evening, but have declined a dinner invitation from the couple next door: the Sarkozys.
President Obamas reluctance to spend more than minimum time with the French leader on his visit for the D-Day anniversary has come as an embarrassment to the Elysée Palace.
Americas First Family will not be dining with President Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni, even though they are staying at the residence of the US Ambassador, yards from the Elysée apartments where the Sarkozys spend their weekends.
Mr Sarkozys staff were trying yesterday to arrange another private moment between the couples. Mr Obama is due to fly back to Washington tomorrow night or on Sunday.
Mr Sarkozys dream date would be dinner somewhere spectacular such as the Jules Verne, an Alain Ducasse restaurant on the Eiffel Tower. The Obamas were reported on French celebrity websites to be planning a meal there.
A glamorous joint outing might be compared with the ones that President de Gaulle undertook with John and Jackie Kennedy in 1961. On that trip, Mrs Kennedy was such a hit that JFK presented himself as the man who accompanied Jackie Kennedy to Paris.
Failure to socialise with the Obamas will add to mockery that has greeted Mr Sarkozys attempts to stage the 65th anniversary of D-Day as a Barack and Sarko show. The media and Opposition have mocked Mr Sarkozy over Mr Obamas coolness towards him, which is only partly due to his handling of the Normandy commemoration.
Mr Sarkozy has been pilloried in France for his failure to invite the Queen to the events. The palace is fearing a snub, Le Parisien newspaper said yesterday after the news emerged of the Obamas plans to keep themselves to themselves.
Yesterday the popular comedian Nicolas Canteloup did an

One can only hope...
You are so right — it is getting more obvious he hates whites and loves Muslims.
Abominable FLOTUS doesn’t want to be caught next to elegant Carla ever again.
He sure knows what he is doing in this instance.
See #19 above.
The reasoning being at the time was that the Czech leader had previously publicly attacked comrade Obamsky.
He’s in Paris on our dime. He should consider this a professional obligation.
He and Michelle:
Wouldn’t hold a dinner for Gordon Brown
Refused dinner with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and his wife
Refuse dinner with Sarkozi and his wife.
For a couple who “love to entertain” they certainly don’t entertain when it might advance the people’s business.
Don’t forget the “Veteran” Queen they snubbed for the Normandy anniversary.
Black Liberation Politics dictates that white western civilization is evil.
Mohammedanism is to be exalted. Witness Malcolm X, Louis Farrakhan, etc. Black Liberation is a tool of Communists.
hope for this is all we got left.
The only intelligent reason I can think of for this snub is that the “weekend in Paris” is cover for a visit to Afghanistan. Or Iraq. Or......Mecca?
...don't forget this guy.
“has come as an embarrassment to the Elysée Palace.”
No, it’s an emarrassment to every civilized and diplomatic American and anyone else with any class or manners that the TOTUS POS Obammy has offended an important and pro American ally.
What an embarrassing, snotty, narcissistic little amateur piece of dog excretement Obammy and his nasty snot of a wife is to America.
God help us.
The restaurant at which the Obamas supposedly will dine:
Nah, Michelle the obaminations ugly-ass wife didn’t want to have to sit near Sarkozy’s attractive wife.
And fellow COMMUNity organizers.
That’s like two minutes away by foot less by armored limo. What a debacle.
The Surrender Monkey in Chief snubs the French leader... how classic. LOL
Better it happened this way. The Sarkozys would have been stuck paying the tip.
Hell, Sarkozy and Carla could come here and have dinner at my house with my Sons.
Hope they like cheeseburgers and fries..
Come on over and have some chow with real Americans, and forget about the fake one.
