New Gallup Poll: Public Opinion Strongly Against Closing Gitmo

Move America Forward has been hot on the issue of Guantanamo Bay for the past 6 months. In December we made Guantanamo the last stop on our “Honoring Heroes at the Holidays II” tour and we brought boxes of Christmas cards, DVDs, T-Shirts and lots of other goodies from our care packages to Guantanamo Bay to distribute to troops there.

We inspected the detainment camps and returned to the United States to fight Obama and his allies who wanted to close it. We produced an advertisement for TV and held a press conference with 9/11 families who also wanted to see justice done.

The results of our efforts, at least in public opinion, are very encouraging as a new Gallup poll that just came out June 3rd, shows the public OVERWHELMINGLY in support of keeping GITMO open and overwhelmingly OPPOSED to Obama’s policies.

According to these latest poll numbers Americans are

STRONGLY against closing the detention centers at Gitmo
VERY STRONGLY against moving Gitmo prisoners to their local states
Say that Gitmo should NOT be closed and WOULD BE UPSET if it was closed anyway
NOT BUYING Obama’s argument that Gitmo made America less safe (only 18% agree with that)
Republican and Independents LARGELY agree that we SHOULD NOT close Gitmo
Democrats by only a very slim majority say we SHOULD close it
Even most Democrats do not buy Obama’s argument that Gitmo hurt American security

Quoted from Gallup Analysis:

The poll indicates that Americans tend to be emotionally invested in the outcome of the policy—7 in 10 say they would be “upset” if Obama does not follow their preferred course of action on the issue. However, most of the highly charged sentiment comes from those who oppose closing the prison.

This poll was conducted from May 29-31 and has only a 3 point spread margin of error!
This is very encouraging information for our efforts. Even as Obama moves ahead with his ill-conceived plans, trying to apologize for the last administration’s policies which KEPT US SAFE. Obama is IGNORING public opinion and pandering to America’s enemies, which will never work, as history shows.

And as this Gallup poll shows, Americans are wise to whats going on, and they have NOT had the wool pulled over their eyes by Obama’s high flying rhetoric.

obama has at least one potentially fatal personal flaw; he is flatly incapable of admitting that he was wrong. we especially saw that during the primaries.

Hey I just came up with an idea of how Obama could close Gitmo and handle the prisoners down there at the same time. Obama can get William Ayers to go down there and sorta accidentally start a fire and prison burns down and all the prisoners shall we say go up in smoke and we can close Gitmo and we dont have to worry about where to put the prisoners. Wallah!

I know how the Obamasiah could close Gitmo quick. Apply the rule that the Geneva Convention applies only to those combatants in uniform. Most of the Gitmo prisoners were apprehended in civilian clothes so we are therefore entitled to shoot them out of hand. When 90% have gotten their virgins, send the remaining 10% back home.

good point. of course, bush changed course when he ordered the surge, which is what ultimately won the conflict in iraq. but you would never know it from reading the OOM*

You are cruel. But there is an old English custom of having the captured criminals draw straws, then hanging the loser as an example to the survivors. I say we have this lottery every week until the population of Gitmo gets down to 100 or so. Then hold one last big lottery. This time, the "winner" gets sent home and everyone else get hanged.

great point. GWB would never admit an error that would make our nation less secure, or jeopardize the lives of our troops stationed in the middle east. He would simply fix it, and silently endure the heat from the MSM and the pelosicrats.

I'm not entirely sure that it's narcissism, although obama certainly displays narcissistic tendencies. I'm not just splitting hairs, here, I just believe that the guy is so inexperienced, that he has no clue what he has gotten himself into.

He is governing with the only thing that he has; sheer doctrinaire leftist ideology.

With zero(no pun intended) experience, all he has is his political philosophy of failed welfare state notions.
