Mourners Gather to Remember Slain Abortion Doctor as Small Group Protests Funeral

WICHITA, Kan. — Hundreds of mourners gathered Saturday under tight security and amid small protests at a Wichita church for the funeral of a slain Kansas abortion provider.

Groups of demonstrators and counter-demonstrators also congregated outside the memorial service for Dr. George Tiller, 67, who was shot in the head last Sunday at his own church.

The funeral service began at 11 a.m. EDT and drew 17 demonstrators from Topeka's Westboro Baptist Church, known for picketing soldiers' funerals and declaring their deaths are punishment for U.S. tolerance of homosexuality.

The group's members also oppose abortion — one of their signs called it "bloody murder."

Mourning the death of a flat-out monster serial killer is more evidence of the strong delusion under which the leftist have chosen to go supine.

This man was scum - of that there really is no doubt.

However, the funeral does this man neither any good, nor any harm. The Funeral is for those who he left behind, his wife, his kids, friends, family members and others.

Protesting his funeral does not bring his victims back to life, it does not send him to a lower level of hell - but it does hurt and offend those who knew him as a loving father, a brother or friend.

If this were a state affair, this would be a different matter. As it is, this is a gathering of friends and family who come together to support each other in this time of emotional pain.

Any person who would gleefully hurt and offend people who have already been hurt - is simply a craven coward. This is certainly not the kind of behavior a Christian would be proud of. There were evil people back in Christ’s time, I just don’t remember any verses where he said “Blessed is he who offends widows, orphans and the downtrodden”.

It sounded to me like the protesters WERE from Phelps' bunch. Did I read it wrong?

Looks like I read it wrong ... I guess it is Phelps and crew ... which also proves my point about it being cowardly and just plain wrong. I any case I personally don’t want any association to anything the Phelps et al does

I believe Jesus took his problem with money lenders, directly up with the money lenders. He didn’t attack their children, their family members or their friends.

Seems to me that this sort of action runs contrary to our Lord’s commandment to ‘Love one another’. Although it’s difficult to do, we are supposed to love and pray for our enemies.

These people are not the enemy, they are family and friends of our enemy. Chances are more than even that a great many may have hated his deeds, but loved the man.

Kinda hypocritial, to support people who protest a funeral; and then condemning the Phelps degenerates who do the same thing, isn’t it?

Is it OK to protest a funeral, as long as you agree with the group’s policies? I think this is a universal ‘wrong’.

According to Ann Coulter, he also contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to former KS governor Sibelius and other Democrats, buying himself protection. Disgusting....
