Discussing guns dubbed 'academic misconduct'
Las Vegas Review-Journal ^ | 07 june 09 | Vin Suprynowicz

The forces of political correctness once vowed that, should they ever take over, their free expression on all kinds of issues -- from gay rights to amnesty for illegals to space aliens inspiring the pyramids of ancient Egypt -- would no longer be censored.

Censored? Heck, spouting the PC line is now mandatory, as many a professor lately hauled before a college Star Chamber on charges of having "given offense" now learns.

Internationally renowned Austrian economics professor Hans-Hermann Hoppe used a standard textbook example of investment time preferences in a classroom lecture at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a few years back, pointing out that gay couples often invest with shorter time horizons because they are less likely to have children to profit from investments that mature after they're gone. A gay student filed a complaint -- initially with the benefit of anonymity.

At this next lecture, Mr. Hoppe apologized. The student then complained that the apology offended him. UNLV's diversity police wanted professor Hoppe to give up his next raise and his next sabbatical in penance. They backed down when Mr. Hoppe hired a lawyer and went public. Needless to say, Hans-Hermann Hoppe is no longer at UNLV, where benighted Keynesianism again reigns unperturbed, teaching Nevada's youth that Tim "Tax Cheat" Geithner's plan to print billions more greenbacks and use them to buy Treasury bonds is bound to work out just fine.

PC has morphed very smoothly into an absolute and clear-cut violation of Freedom of Speech.

The Berkeley Free Speech Movement of the ‘60’s was clearly an anti-Free-Speech movement then... and it’s academic descendants have institutionalized it into a No Free Speech Permitted establishment in universities now.

I love the line about discussion of gun rights is a material threat to the university.

That’s a good one. That’s EXACTLY the way Hugo Chavez characterizes his anti-Free Speech laws.

At this next lecture, Mr. Hoppe apologized.

Objective truth should always be an irrefutable defense for these types of things. If the instructor can indeed show that what he said is true, then any claims of offensiveness should be thrown out the window.

I can't wait to see what happens if German students complain about the portrayal of their country during World War 2.

Where is the "line in the sand" that we will draw and let the world know that we will not submit to tyranny? Who will draw it? When will we do so? How will we do so? These are the questions that we should be discussing. We need to begin to get serious here and now IMHO.

St Augustine informs us that there is such a thing as "Just War". We are the first Christians in history (IMO, please point it out if I am wrong) who have the ability to "Make Just War" to defend ourselves, our families, our communities, and our values with violence. I am NOT saying that this is the time for it. I am saying that for us to allow ourselves to be passively denied this God given ability is a sin. We cannot let this happen. Lines in the sand can be blurry after a time but at what point do we have a moral obligation to let those who would knowingly or "with good intent" know that we will not allow any further encroachment on that line without answering with violence? Once we have to ability to make "Just War" I believe we have the Duty to protect that ability and it is a moral failing to not do so. I am not sure how this can be so clear to me and not to others.

From the outset, the Libs have been brazenly against any tolerance of views in opposition to their silliness. Despite the rhetoric of tolerance, they have sought to squelch ANY and ALL dissent from their perverted views.

All that has come home to roost in the scarred election of an ineligible candidate to the office of President, with his marxist views and an action plan to destroy traditional American values.

It’s time to take back the country.

At Hamline University, a student was suspended -- pending a mental health evaluation! -- after he advocated in an e-mail for concealed weapons on campus.

Ah, the bad old days of Stalin when dissenters were sent to prison camps to be "treated" for "psychological" issues. These current Lefties are tyrants in larval form.

Several years ago, I was listening to a talk radio program from California. They had a Californian high school principle on the air. He said: “At our school, we all look different but we all think alike. That is true diversity.”

Leftists believe that you have free speech as long as you agree with them.

The Marxists in our universities would wither like the Wicked Witch of the West if confronted by classrooms full of students who were well prepared to defend their faith and our nation's values.

Solution:

Get your kid out of the government school.

Work to shut down every government K-12 school in the nation.

Set up free conservative voucher foundations so that every child in the nation could have a private voucher to a private **conservative** school.

I’ll say it again. All conservative people from all walks should , everyone at the same time, stop being pc. As a matter of fact everyone should be a bit over the top in the other direction. This would totally overwhelm the pc police. They would in short order become numb to the truth.

Well then, let's do some discussing.

I have always liked my FAL best.

But I believe that will soon change when I purchas an XCR...and buy barrels in .223 and .308 for the quick change it offers.

Now that is change you can believe in.

Vin mentioned the “censored” top 10 safety tips.

I thought I’d look them up.

A couple are funny, a few aren’t funny(drink whiskey before going to the range). The list could do without 7, 5 and 1.

Let’s review the facts to illustrate precisely how inappropriate Lone Star’s response has been. On September 8, YCT was distributing flyers, along with other student organizations, during “club rush.” YCT’s flyers featured these “Top Ten Gun Safety Tips”:

10. Always keep your gun pointed in a safe direction, such as at a Hippy or a Communist.

9. Dumb children might get a hold of your guns and shoot each other. If your children are dumb, put them up for adoption to protect your guns.

8. No matter how responsible he seems, never give your gun to a monkey[.]

7. If guns make you nervous, drink a bottle of whiskey before heading to the range[.]

6. While unholstering your weapon, it’s customary to say “Excuse me while I whip this out.”

5. Don’t load your gun unless you are ready to shoot something or are just feeling generally angry.

4. If your gun misfires, never look down the barrel to inspect it.

3. Never us[e] your gun to pistol whip someone. That could mar the finish.

2. No matter how excited you are about buying your first gun, do not run around yelling “I have a gun! I have a gun!”

1. And the most important rule of gun safety: Don’t piss me off.

Allow the Marxist ‘academented’ a free hand and what you see around you is the result.

In the summer of 1994, I told an auditorium of Cato Institute personnel that they non-Liberals) might well win both House and Senate, but that if I could somehow give them both, and the White House as well, that soon they might be on the dust bin of history.

When asked how I could say that, I told them the critical issue was not chasing regulation and legislation round and round inside the Beltway, but retaking the schools which were occupied by socialists.

Each year, a graduating class slouches forth, slack jawed, glazed eyed, clutching a diploma they often can’t read.

And, each year, the number of Americans who do know American history, what the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, etc are - grows smaller.

Fortunately, there is always home schooling and the Internet.

Like using a water pistol to put out a forest fire...Or...As one poster stated, “Like throwing a grape at Jupiter!”

Marxism is our nation's **most** serious threat. Schools are their most important weapon. ( And...They are winning!)

I am very impressed that you would be speaking to an audience at the Cato Institute. My husband and I enjoy listening to their podcasts.
