Despite Recent Violence, Gun Laws Are Softening
Parade ^ | Rebecca Webber

Despite Recent Violence, Gun Laws Are Softening Thirteen killed at an immigration center in New York. Eight at a nursing home in North Carolina. Five in a house in California. These were among the 57 people killed in mass shootings in a 30-day period this spring in the U.S. Meanwhile, new laws are easing restrictions on guns.

Congress recently approved a bill to allow guns in national parks. Tennessee has passed similar measures for its state parks. In South Carolina, a bill under debate would allow weapons on school grounds. Texas may welcome guns into bars. In Montana, a new law requires landlords and hotel owners to allow firearms on their premises.

The bills' supporters say these measures may actually help head off greater violence. "Crime can happen anywhere," says Andrew Arulanandam of the National Rifle Association. "The only thing that can stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun. Law enforcement can't be everywhere, so law-abiding people should have as many options as possible if and when they are attacked."

T Gun-control advocates argue that weakening laws is disastrous. While it wouldn't necessarily lead to more mass shootings, they say, it would almost certainly increase the number of gun-related murders in the U.S. There are currently more than 11,500 each year, and America has one of the world's highest firearm homicide rates. Per capita, our rate is 39 times greater than that of England, 13 times Australia's, and 6 times Canada's.

"We have the equivalent of a Virginia Tech massacre every day in this country. It's just not all in one place," says Daniel Webster of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research. "It's what happens when a person gets mad and has easy access to a gun. Someone is shot over a game of dice. Had the gun not been in their hands, no one would have died."

I seem to recall a study that said 2/3rds of homicides are gang related. Get rid of the drugs and you get rid of the homicide problem.

Anyone who thinks that the Democrats have given up on gun control is living in a fool's paradise. But, they know it's a big loser so they'll go about it sneaky and clever. Taxes, regulations, law suits, UN treaties, you name it. Anything to destroy the industry and therefore destroy the 2nd Amendment.

The right to keep and bear arms, you say? Hah! Try exercising that right when there's no guns or ammunition to be had. We're not there yet, but that's the tactic.

Of course, the Dems are not above big new anti gun legislation, either, in spite of the political costs. It's that important to them.

Freep the Poll. Last night it was 94% Yes (against more gun control)

This morning it is down to only 93% Yes.

There must be a lot of anti-freedom types on it today.

Time to hit it again. It's down to 93% yes. LOL

FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)

I just read this article. The gun-grabbers never give up, and they know the best place to spread their lies is among the dimwitted who get their “news” from Parade magazine.

I wonder what the libs who run these polls think when they’re consistently outvoted by 93%?

Can someone in the media please, please, please explain how it is too hard and too difficult and “chilling” to so much as flash a driver's license when registering to vote...but producing a driver's license, filling out a form that asks a bunch of questions signed by a person who can go to jail if it isn't done right, and verified by the federal government regarding criminal records is too easy?

Just last week a drooling news writer in my state was going on about how easy it was to get a CCW—two forms of ID (including either a passport or an original birth certificate), plus a state back ground check with finger prints. Heck, Obama couldn't pass that.

Here is an idea: equalize constitutional right certifications. For each state how one shall buy a gun is how one shall vote. Lets see what Acorn makes of that. Just for fun put F-troop in charge of looking for violations.

Texas wants guns in bars? I’m not so sure I like that idea. Bars are supposed to be a little rowdy. How can people be rowdy when there’s people packing iron? How do you yourself get a little rowdy when you yourself are packing?

“How do you yourself get a little rowdy when you yourself are packing?”

Answer: You don’t. In the 9 states that prevent people from carrying in *bars*, they prevent you from carrying in any establishment that serves alcohol. That means that you cannot eat at a majority of restaurants if you choose to be armed.

The law that just passed in Tennessee (to join 40 other states that allow people to carry where they serve alcohol) requires that if you carry there, you are not allowed to drink alcohol.

This is one of the oldest braindead arguments about guns, and it essentially states that guns cause murder. This of course does not explain the dozens (likely hundreds) of ways evil people have discovered to kill other people, and it does not explain the millions of murders that occurred prior to the invention of the firearm.

Should states loosen restrictions on guns?

Yes — 94%

No — 6%
