he Wall Street Journal is reporting the following about GM's sort-of sale of Hummer to the Chinese:

“While many believe the deal will have difficulty garnering regulatory approval in China, others said they wouldn’t rule out the possibility that the government will support the deal so that Hummer’s technology could be used to improve China’s military vehicles. Andrew Chen, an investment manager for Foreopen.com in Pittsburgh, who has been following the deal closely, said Sichuan historically has been a home for production of Chinese military automobiles. He speculated that the government may be encouraging the deal and might even help get loans for the buyer.”

It’s not - it’s the commercially available one. What’s to stop the Chinese from simply buying used Hummers on the market and shipping them back?

Nothing secret or special being shipped to China, except some US dignity in losing such an auspicious brand!

China already has a HUMMER like vehicle in her military. Chinese investors brought the Hummer brand and will spend the next two years copying the production line as American workers build the vehicle. The two years will be money losing years but the Chinese do not care because the time is spent not making money but studying and copying the factory. Down the road the Chinese will declare that it is no longer cost effective to keep the US plants and will close it when the Chinese factories are ready to take over.

If the Chinese want to use a GM Hummer for a military vehicle they’re welcome to it. LOL
