European elections 2009: Nicolas Sarkozy's UMP wins
The Telegraph ^ | 6/8/2009 | Henry Samuel in Paris

President Nicolas Sarkozy's centre-Right UMP group and the Greens were the two big winners in France's European parliamentary elections, near complete results showed.

But with 93 per cent of ballots counted, the opposition Socialists appeared to have suffered serious losses –plunging the already weak party into further disarray.

With just under 28 per cent of the vote, the UMP was the first ruling party in France to come out on top in EU elections since 1979, in a major boost to the president, whose approval ratings have been poor in recent months.

It was a huge improvement on the 2004 elections, when disillusionment with Mr Sarkozy's predecessor, Jacques Chirac, pushed their score down to 16.6 per cent.

The opposition Socialists, on the other hand, were facing humiliation at below the 17 per cent mark - far below the 28.9 per cent they posted last time round.

The poor result is likely to rekindle deep rifts in the party and weaken the position of its new leader, Martine Aubry, who won a bruising battle in January for the top job against Ségolène Royal, the ex-presidential candidate.

The choreographed rapprochement between the two bitter rivals - the pair held hands on stage at a campaign rally two weeks ago - clearly failed to turn the tide.

"This is the catastrophe scenario for Aubry," wrote Le Parisien. "It's another 21 April," said Vincent Peillon, a Socialist, referring to the electoral earthquake in 2002 when the party's presidential candidate, Lionel Jospin, failed to reach the second round.

Besides the Socialist collapse, the biggest surprise was the strong showing of the Green list, called Europe Ecologie, which was almost in tied second place, on above 16 per cent of the vote. The Greens' flag-bearer was Daniel Cohn-Bendit, who as "Danny the Red" was student radical

Thanks to Bruinbirdman for the post.

Sarko took the gloves off and fought hard... and it paid off.

This has been a systematic, carefully planned destruction of the Left on Sarko’s part. The Left can always be counted on to destroy itself from within, eith the correct strategy on the Right. It is called “rope-a-dope”

See Andrew Breitbart’s article to understand why it is so important that the Right in the US start doing the same.

Danny the Red is in a position to become the leading leftist in France? They haven’t seen the likes of him since Robespierre!

Daniel Cohn-Bendit, aka Danny the Red, has been involved in far far Left radical politics his whole life. He is a total opportunist whose new gimmick is going Green. (Green is the new Red!) The accusations of pedophilia are not misplaced; they are sadly very real.

I guess he is a combo of Community Organizer Obama, and Education specialist, Bill Ayres.

ON THE RECORD:

re : Allegations of paedophilia:

Cohn-Bendit worked in the Karl-Marx-Buchhandlung bookshop and ran a kindergarten (of children between five and eight years’ old). Later in 2001 he was accused of pedophilia. This accusation was grounded on the following citation from his 1975 book Le Grand Bazar, [1]: “It happened to me several times that certain kids opened my fly and started to stroke me. I reacted differently according to circumstances, but their desire posed a problem for me. I asked them: ‘Why don’t you play together? Why have you chosen me, and not the other kids?’ But if they insisted, I caressed them still.[2]”

On the 31st of January, 2001 in the Berlin newspaper [3] published open letter to Cohn-Bendit from the former German Foreign Minister, Klaus Kinkel, demanding Cohn-Bendit clarify whether there was actual physical contact with the children . The Berliner Zeitung published Cohn-Bendit’s response. He said that he was “not aware of the problem” (“das Problem nicht bewusst”). “We tried,” ...”a collective discourse of a new sexual morality yet to be defined”( “in einem kollektiven Diskurs eine neue Sexualmoral zu definieren”). The reported sex scenes, were a “me-oriented self-reflection” (“ich-bezogene Selbstreflexion”). Cohn-Bendit, did not say there was no sexual contact with children. When interviewed on the 28th January, 2001 by ”The Observer” [4] Cohn-Bendit told the journalist, “I admit that what I wrote is unacceptable nowadays.”

In the 1980s the Greens experimented with various policies which would decriminalize sex with children. At its national conference in Lüdenscheid (March 1985) the Greens in North Rhine-Westphalia called for “nonviolent sexuality” between children and adults never to be subject to criminal prosecution. In 1987 the policy was “ When young people have the desire for older peers outside the family, prevented either because their homosexuality is not accepted by their parents, or because they have pädosexuelle inclinations, be it for other reasons, they must be given the opportunity to do so. “

Being all things to all is not the way to lead.

Will Republicans wake up and regain the conservative cause or capitulate to the weak sisters of the party i.e. McCain.

The French are leading the conservative movement based upon
principles.

Well I guess he won’t be known as ‘The Incorruptible’ then.

The new world —

Russia becomes a leading propoent of free enterprise and incorporating God in their children’s school classes. Hillary goes to Moscow to lecture them on gay rights.

The EU turns more and more to the right.

America elects a socialist who wants to gut our values base and marginalize those with a Chirstian ethic.

What next, China converts to Mormonism and adopts a libertarian apporach to civil rights?

Conservatism gains, and the Greens elect a kook. Wipe that smirk off your face.
