Years ago, as the Cold War was coming to an end, I said to my fellow leaders around the globe: The world is on the cusp of great events, and in the face of new challenges all of us will have to change, you as well as we. For the most part, the reaction was polite but skeptical silence.
In recent years, however, during speaking tours in the United States before university audiences and business groups, I have often told listeners that I feel Americans need their own change -- a perestroika, not like the one in my country, but an American perestroika -- and the reaction has been markedly different. Halls filled with thousands of people have responded with applause.

We can give Gorby some credit for reforms in the former Soviet Union. In the end, the process and the desires of the people for changes led to the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
On the other hand, Gorby didn’t want to see the Soviet Union disappear. He wanted to reform communism, not see it done away with.
I’m not sure he has anything to add to debates about issues in the western world or needs for reform that he thinks we need.
His recipe is for the West (namely the US) to become more Red.
We are in serious trouble.

America loves a celebrity, whether they have any clue as to what they stand for or not.

No Mr. Gorbachev, America does not need a ‘Perestroika’. The free market system we HAD worked just fine and helped create the once greatest country in the world, the United States.
It was Socialist philosophy put in practice by our disgraceful Democratic politicians that agree with your comrades more than they agree with our Founding Fathers, like Chris Dodd and Barney Frank, that ushered in our economic crisis.
It was in allowing those who could not afford homes to get loans that they should have never received through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, that got us into this mess.
If there is to be change it must be true American patriots putting an end to Socialism that democrats have given and are giving us and for the Federal Gov’t. to get out of the way of the Private Sector and leave their marxist paws off us!!
