There are several good reasons Americans should help out the Mexican economy with a trip south of the border.

Nope. Even Arizona is too close for me.
I wanna keep my head....
Yeah right! Go there with your family and die.
Screw mexico.
Do not want
As if we’re not helping the Mexican economy enough right now.
I already HAVE MORE Mexico than I could ever want right here in the USA!
I can’t decide if this should get a “Barf Alert”, or filed under “Totally Insane Ideas”.
The article fails to mention the billions of US dollars sent to Mexico from illegal and legal immigrants. That has surpassed tourism to the number 2 spot, after oil, as the largest source of hard currency for Mexico.
Enjoy the thrill of being kidnapped...
Seems that Mexico is a state of the USA in this author's mind.
I think all the Mexicans here should go back to Mehico.
that would help a bunch....
I don’t visit neighbors who invite themselves into my home, take my food, sleep in my bed, take my wallet, and complain that I don’t speak their language.
Actually, no thanks, Mexico has come here and is partially responsible for the bankruptcy of my state.

I bet it’s tres cheap - can I rent a palace right now, or would I have to go to Iraq to do that?!
"Americans also share some of the responsibility for the mayhem unleashed by the showdown between the Mexican state and its rapacious drug cartels, as both Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and President Obama were right to point out in recent months. Drug users in this country are underwriting the war in Mexico -- and that war is being waged largely with guns brought in from this country.".

No way! LOL...
Besides, it’s all messed up down there. Why would anyone want to go? Perhaps there might be a few special resort areas that one could go to, but I wouldn’t want to go, just on general principles.
Visit Canada instead... :-)
Cant I just travel to Texas and experience the same thing?
“Visit Canada instead... :-)”
That makes a lot more sense!
Lots of full automatic weapons and explosives that I can't purchase at the local gun store. Most of the guns from the US that got in the hands of the cartels were ones purchased by/given to the Mexican police and military, not from over the counter sales at an El Paso gun shop.
I would go to Mexico if it were all expense paid and if they tossed a couple more grand into my accounts when I returned.
I make every effort not to even buy Mexican products anymore.
Shootout kills 16 in Mexico's Acapulco resort By NATALIA PARRA , 06.07.09, 09:39 AM EDT pic
ACAPULCO, Mexico -- A military official says 15 gunmen and a soldier were killed in a two-hour shootout in the heart of Acapulco's hotel zone.
The army colonel who led the battle against the gunmen says the shootout erupted when the military received a tip about the presence of armed men at a house in the hotel zone
I would go to Mexico=I wouldN’T go to Mexico
Well, actually, the responsibility is ALL ours. Were it not for the Estados Unitos, Mexico would be a prosperous, ecologically balanced country filled with peace loving, industrious (but carbon-neutral) people. Our being here ruined it all for them.
Mexico should legalize guns ASAP. How cruel to not arm their own citizens.
Luckily I don’t have to be neighbourly.
I’ll recommend British Columbia, right now..., to anyone. It’s a beautiful place...
AND..., they should be getting their “Spring runoff” about now, from now to the end of June.
Take a ride on those big ferries up there in BC, too, a great ride for a lot cheaper than going on a cruise ship...
BC Ferries (the largest ferry system in the world)

Don’t take a ride from the U.S. side to the Canadian side on a ferry. That’s not as good. Go up into BC and then take a BC ferry from one point to the other. That’s a lot better (I’m talking about not taking the Black Ball or the San Juan Island ferry — although I’ve taken both of them just to say I did... LOL...).
The last time I went to Mexico was in 2000. Ensanda is beautiful and worthwhile going. However, NOW??? It is dangerous there right now. No thanks...maybe in a few years after the drug problems settle down.
Why not just go and hand out $100 bills outside your local Home Depot? Safer and it would go to the same place.
My brother is a business man who lives in Baha. He says stay home..it just isn’t as safe as it was before. There are more kidnappings and robberies than are being reported.
Plus..car thefts.
I can't tell from reading the article but knowing how hypocritical liberals are, it wouldn't surprise me if hasn't been to Mexico in the last year and has no plans to travel south of the border.
To top it all off, this is written by a guy at the pro-open borders New America Foundation, which is made up of former Kennedy staffers and other left-wing bigots, to whom the interests of other countries and people are more important than the interests of Americans, individually or as a whole.
Yes.
Andrés Martinez is libtarded.
As Mexico exports thier poverty, low quality drugs, and crime to the US, I make it a point to not support Mexico.
Back in the good o’l days one could go to Cancoon(sp), not anymore. Mexico is a blackwater stagnated cespool of corruption death and disease.
I can only hope the good citicens of Mexico overthrow the idiots in charge because Mexico is rich in resources, talent, etc.
That entire statement is a BIG LIE, told over and over, until taken for the truth.
Yeah and I live in NC.

I was thinking Boyle Heights.
I have enjoyed going to Mexico for many years. Many nice people and beautiful places to visit. It is sad to see some of the recent and severe uptick in violence. My family an I will be going to the Playa del Carmen area - some of the world’s best resorts and beaches. Looking forward to it.
No thanks. I prefer Maine.
You’re kidding, right?
Right. I'll get right on it.
No...I’ve been to Mexico several time, mission work, etc. I have encountered some of the nicest folks down there, as well as some of them here in the Texas area. Yes, many are struggling and have made horrible choices that affect their families, and add the unfortunate stigma/broad brush that is applied to their people in general. Don’t misunderstand me and assume that I support illegal immigration, in fact, I would do anything to protect those who are already legal here by supporting and re-enforcing existing laws.
I don’t like Cancun, but the areas to the South (Playa del Carmen), etc. have some of the world’s best rated resorts. The area is beautiful, safe, and some of the best workers there.
We could send all our potheads and dope fiends down there and kill two birds with one stone. The dopers could get their fix fresh from the source and the cartels could kidnap and kill their customer base. Once the all druggies are gone, the cartels would dry up and we’ll be free of both.
I certainly, without a doubt, plan to be neighborly. In fact my family plans to be neighborly several times all summer long!
We plan to cross the border into Rhode Island for a two week vacation in just a couple of weeks.
Good fences make good neighbors.
