Gore held back from going to NKorea to negotiate release of two US reporters

Posted: 09 June 2009 1044 hrs

WASHINGTON : Former US vice president Al Gore was "held back" from travelling to North Korea to negotiate for the release of his two employees - journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee.

That is according to Selig Harrison from the Centre for International Policy, who said Gore sought diplomatic backing from the Obama administration in a private meeting on May 11.

Ling and Lee have just been sentenced to 12 years in North Korean labour camp.

Neither Al Gore nor the company he founded, Current TV, have made any public comments, since the two journalists were captured whilst on a reporting assignment in March.

“Held back”? Bwaaahahahahaaaa ... truth be told, it was simply because there was no money in it.

What a joke. When has Gore been "held back" from anything?

Must be more to this story angle.

NO! Don't hold him back. Let him go to NK. Maybe they'll trade him for the two journalists, thinking he's worth more in ransom.

Then, when they realize he's worthless and that no sane country will take him back, the NK's will be stuck with him. Then, he can torture Kim Jong Il with non-stop boring speeches about global warming...err...climate change...errr...(insert latest spin-phrase)....

Gore should offer himself in exchange. I would guess that if Gore funded their illegal entry, there’s 100’s of lawsuits on the horizon.

Apparently Li'l Kim enjoys American hair products.

Look at the lift and volume in his hair.

Probably adds 4 inches to his height.

Maybe the North Koreans threatened to put him in jail, too.

Not that I’d wish that on anybody.

Just sayin ...

Prince Albert of Gore is a private citizen. He doesn’t have to ask for government permission. Unless, of course, he wanted an excuse for staying home while his two young employees rot.

... who said Gore sought diplomatic backing from the Obama administration in a private meeting on May 11.

I'll say this for him, at least he followed proper procedure, protocol, and went to the White House FIRST, unlike Carter, Richardson, Jesse Jackson in recent years who have gone willy-nilly to deal without prior Administration sanction/approval. When one is no longer in office (or Jackson, never held public office), he does not possess any authority whatever -- having former presidents, MOC's, ambassadors, etal, who are no more than the average citizen by virtue of their no longer holding office, doing these things without the approval of the people who are charged with the Foreign Policy mandate confuses things in the end.

(I can't believe I had something good to say about Gore, but you know, that thing about broken clocks and all).

The Algore did slip around his old man to get sent to the Nam. The Army then moved Heaven and Earth to keep him from getting involved in combat and eventually sent him back early.

I really don't doubt that he's crazy enough to go to North Korea and challenge those pukes directly.

On the other hand those pukes in Korea simply don't care. They are all mind-numbed robot-like knee-jerk Commie idiots.

These are not the first people the NK Regime has kidnapped ~ it's a regular business practice with them.

Eventually someone will get across to the Algore that the Leftwingtards in this world are NOT HIS FRIENDS.

I’d not ever work for ALGORE. Seeing this, I am justified in my opinion - nevermind anything else.

To the two misguided fools, I hope your family has (or can get) money.

The real question is if they ever get released will they tell all?

It is absolutly not worth Obamas political capital to try, in fact it’s downright dangerous to his ideoligy - afterall, he wants to “go fishing” with this guy.

I can only hope that the families of these two people stuck in a work/death camp will be well compensated to keep thier mouths shut.

It’s sad.

Held back by who?
Useless, cowardly gasbag.
Ross Perot singlehandedly invaded Iran to get back people who worked for him.

A little history:

In 1979, two EDS employees were taken hostage by the Iranian government.
Perot directed a successful rescue mission composed of EDS employees and led by retired Green Beret Colonel Arthur “Bull” Simons. Perot himself went to Iran and entered the prison where his men were held.

Ken Follett wrote a best selling novel, On Wings of Eagles, about the rescue. An NBC TV miniseries was later made from the book. Later in 1979, Governor William P. Clements, Jr. asked Perot to head Texas’ War on Drugs Committee. The group proposed five laws to deter illegal drug operations, all of which were passed by the legislature and signed into law.

Al Gore was NOT at the Koryo Hotel (Pyongyang) as of at least Monday at 10:00 p.m. local time. At least according to the chirpy little girl receptionist with the somewhat odd North Korean-accented English when the phone call went through. He could ostensibly stay at Pottangang Hotel or any other number of places to watch foreigners there in P'yang--probably not in a government guest house. I myself think the girls themselves must be at one of these foreigner hotels under guard on one of the floors (probably top floor), or maybe over in the "foreigner's area" of Pyongyang, in the safe houses where they have Japanese and South Korean captives who have been there 20/30 plus years (where the Taedong River turns, across from Rungna Islet). These are just some of the possible places they would have Ms. Lee and Ms. Ling in the 10-day run up period before they actually get sent to the DPRK death camps.
