Kneecapping FedEx - Democrats carry freight for Teamsters and UPS
Washington Times ^ | June 9, 2009

Posted on 06/09/2009 9:24:53 AM PDT by La Lydia

FedEx Express is learning what could be the Democrats' economic motto -- "Never Let Success Go Unpunished."

Led by Rep. James Oberstar (D-Minnesota), the House on May 21 passed legislation that contains a hidden provision -- a mere 230 words -- that would hobble FedEx Express by completely changing the labor laws under which the company operates. Unless the Senate removes the language from the bill reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration, a mere dozen or so workers in just one city could hamstring much of the nation's overnight delivery service.

Americans take for granted that things can "absolutely, positively ... be there overnight" -- but it took FedEx Express to make that so. FedEx Express is, of course, one of the great corporate success stories of modern times, having grown from a mere idea in a 1965 term paper by Yale undergraduate Frederick W. Smith into a company essential to the workings of our modern economy.

It is a little-known fact that FedEx contracts with the U.S. Postal Service to carry almost all of its Express Mail and a large proportion of Priority Mail. FedEx delivers huge amounts of needed supplies for American military forces, and its service is just about the only way to guarantee that some lifesaving medicines reach patients overnight...

...The UPS corporate political action committee has "given more money to federal lawmakers than any other company over two decades,"...The Teamsters, who lean heavily Democratic, have donated $86,500 to Mr. Oberstar during that period...

UPS trying to squash FedEx Express is like Goliath sitting on David...With the economy so shaky, this is the worst time for Congress to change the rules governing such an important facet of interstate commerce. The old wisdom should apply still: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Your notion is predicated upon this still being a Constitutional Republic. But in reality this nation has been transformed into a federal oligarchy run by the democrap party and their affirmative action figure fraud-in-chief, and the subpreme Roberts court has placed their stamp of approval uopn it all.

What the article does not make clear is that UPS is currently unionized and FedEx is not. UPS would like FedEx to have the same albatross around it's neck.

The worker vote on unionization at FedEx is currently a nationwide vote as required by current law.

The Dems want to change this law by having another Federal agency for oversight. Then "local", rather than national, rules would applied to the voting process.

It appears that Obama’s primary economic intention is to either directly control the private sector or to render it utterly dependent on Washington. Are these some of the jobs he will have “saved or created”?

UPS and its house union, the Teamsters (and you'd better believe the locals are "house" unions, there at the invitation of management right from the foundation of the company) want Fed-Ex to also be unionized ~ preferably by the Teamsters, so that the UPS management team can directly influence how Fed-Ex is going to be managed in the future.

This has nothing to do with unionization, per se. It has everything to do with predatory anti-trust activities!

The Obama regime will probably not do anything about the anti-trust violations.

“We” are now in the minority and the democrap party is spending tax money ($8 billion so far in the past ten months) to strengthen the vote fraud and falsification of census through ACORN and subsidiaries. I’m afraid, short of using the left’s techniques (criminal methodology), it is already too late to stop the affirmative action figure’s brand of democrat Marxism.

What you heard is that Fed-Ex wants to get out of the Parcel Processing and Delivery Business. They became an Express and Baggage airline some time back, like that part of the business, and want to simply "contract out" handling and delivery to other organizations.

I think the UPS ambition here is to FORCE Fed-Ex to contract out processing and delivery to THEM rather than to other private operators, or to the Postal Service.

I use FedEx here at work for the bulk of my shipping. I really like their service - much better than UPS, who would damage many of the packages I sent out.

If FedEx goes bust, I’m going to be pissed.

What a surprise! A quick search shows Fred Smith’s $upporting republicans, with only a couple of dems here and there. In the very near future, in order to do business, work, obtain groceries, living space, cars, tvs, schooling medical care, etc, we will have to belong to Obama’s party AND be in good $tanding. Remember how it was in the USSR? Now it’s coming to us.

The nomenklatura were a small, elite subset of the general population in the Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries who held various key administrative positions in all spheres of those countries' activity: government, industry, agriculture, education, etc. The nomenklatura was analogous to the ruling class, which Communist doctrine denounced in the capitalist West. Without exception, they were members of the Communist Party.

I operate a small trucking company. The slowdown in business causes me to go outside my usual customer base. There’s usually a load somewhere that needs to be hauled. But the rates have hit rock bottom. Usually you wait until that load hits urgency and the rates go up to a reasonable level.
Recently, YRC, the larger unionized firm, has started moving those loads. Also, they requested a $1B ‘bailout’. If you don’t care about making money due to government intervention, I guess it wouldn’t matter what the freight rate was as long as your drivers were doing something. I can’t afford to pay drivers that aren’t hauling something but apparently with government help, they can.
I’m feeling the squeeze.....

The reason that our Congress will do nothing is they all have so much dirt and corruption baggage that they can no longer speak out for what is right.

Where are the Republicans?

Talk about gridlock. The only way to clean this mess up is get rid of all of them and start over, shorten their terms.

“I’m afraid, short of using the left’s techniques (criminal methodology), it is already too late to stop the affirmative action figure’s brand of democrat Marxism.”

It’s never too late.

Three stages to regaining our liberty:

Soap Box

Ballot Box

Ammo Box

Right now, we’re using the Soap Box (Tea Parties).

In 2010, and again in 2012 we’ll try using the Ballot Box, but if the demoncraps succeed in rigging the election, then it’s time to lock and load and use the Ammo Box.

Sadly, the way things are turning out, I predict that we’ll be in an all out civil war within the next 5 years.

The current crop of criminal enterprise democrats have a way to prevent the recovery of the Republic if things get close to 'ammo box' bad ... starvation of city dwellers via targeted trucking bans and rail stoppages--of course blamed on right wing conservatives groups--will insure that any revolt is manageable by the 'ACORN extension' platoons.

Our society/nation has become too complex to overthrow a corrupt governemtn is the ballot box is under their control. And the majority of the sheeple are so dumbed down on bread and circuses that they will swallow any koolaid fed to them by the fifth column enemedia. I'm afraid the third option/stage is no longer a possible solution. The Constitutional Republic died not with a bang but a whimper, as the Roberts court put a final poison-tipped nail into the Constitutional contract, allowing the federal oligarchy to take full blossom with the affirmative action figure fraud-in-chief.

Elections have consequences.

And this point must be driven home to their workers by every non-unionized employer- large and small. Only when employees sense in their bones that increased government interference with business ownership will result in capital flight and threaten individual jobs, will we see a change.

The normal distribution of human intelligence is the fatal flaw in democracy. The Left exploits this matter of fact, 24/7. Only real consequences, felt by a critical mass of the population, can bring real change. We are in for a hard ride. As an English observer correctly wrote many years ago:

"Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one." (McKay)

“The only way to clean this mess up is get rid of all of them and start over, shorten their terms.”

It is time for “We The People”, to rise up and take back our country from those who seek to flush it down the toilet. For too long we have allowed career politicians to ruin our country and erode our God given rights in the name of getting re-elected in order to pay back the special interest groups and the unions that support them. Every politician who has served more than two terms needs to be thrown out of office and banned for life from holding any other elected or appointed office in the public sector.
